According to the Baroness, her daughter Cheshyr was a sweet angel as a child, but growing into an adult teen she’s become a problem child. Another daughter is still growing up and so far shows no signs of following in her older sister’s footsteps.

Cheshyr is known around the city for being a roguish half elf in charge of a small time gang of misfits. There’s also word that she’s been sighted discussing with those criminals I just caught. The father? Asking her that Mirenda just shakes her head and doesn’t speak further.

At this point there’s a lot of suspicion already that Cheshyr is involved in something bad. Mirenda wants a neutral party to judge her daughter without any bias, hence hiring me. She’s paying out more than the bounty to investigate her own daughter.

Although she seems reluctant to suspect her kin, I’ll just keep an open mind as she wanted. Asking Mirenda, Cheshyr is likely hanging out at either of two locations: The local pub or the Keeper’s Guild.

The pub isn’t open until later tonight so it’s automatically decided that I’ll check out the Keeper’s Guild. I bid farewell to the Baroness and leave her estate after collecting the bounty reward and the advance payment for the investigation.

The last words of Baroness Mirenda is, 「 If Cheshyr is found guilty, please apprehend her as gently as possible. 」

Guess she deems me strong enough after bringing in those criminals, at least strong enough to capture her daughter without hurting her too badly.

By the way, the bounty and the advance for the investigation was in total 3 gold coins. Asking for change at a nearby outdoor vendor, I figure out that the money system in this world is based around minted coins, the lowest denominator being copper coins, then silver, and then gold. 10 coppers is equal to a silver coin, 10 silvers to 1 gold, and there is apparently higher valued coins which are rare and usually reserved for big business.

I buy an apple as thanks for the info and pay 3 coppers, leaving me with 2.97 gold left. An inn’s night stay is around 10 coppers so I should be able to sleep under a roof and get fed for a few months just on this.

Now then, getting directions from bystanders, I somehow find the Keepers Guild. According to what I’ve heard, the Keepers are a group of freelance workers who crowd source issues across the land.

This is definitely this world’s version of an Adventurer’s Guild isn’t it. The Keepers usually accept requests from the public that the city guards cannot cover due to resources or restraints. Most of the requests are about killing monsters and doing random tasks requiring might and magic.

That’s right, apparently this world recognizes magic, something that was merely a fantasy in my old world. I want to learn more about it so maybe I can put up a request to the guild to have a magic lesson.

The Keeper’s Guild in front of me looks rustic, if wood can even get rusty. The foundation seems shoddy and at worst a disaster waiting to happen. I guess I can expect this level of architecture from this world.

The wooden doors swing open grandly and a man carrying a weapon and scars all over his body walks out. He easily dwarfs me in sheer size, what did he eat to get so big?

He glares at me and I just simply smile back. First impressions are important you know.

A big balding man with scars over his body and a large axe on his back is staring me down. He seems intimidating as first glance, no he definitely is. He’s perfectly blocking the entrance to the Keepers Guild.

「 Hey missie, what are you doing there? 」

Becca 「 Standing under the shade. You? 」

In this case the man is the tree. Oh, there’s a vein showing up on his head.

「 You seem lost. This is no place for brats so scram. 」

Becca「 This the Keepers Guild? 」

「 It is. 」

Becca 「 Then I’m in the right place. 」

Oh hey, another vein.
