Hello all!
I know that we just had a break, but unfortunately it seems I will need to take another. Between having to prepare for the coming holidays, a smidgen of writer's block, and the release of a book I have been waiting for desperately for well over a year now, I have gotten absolutely nothing done on the Shadowborn front. No chapter today, and expect some delays during the holiday season because my work schedule will be erratic.
Apologies, and I'll see you for the next one!
12/13 update: Still haven't had the chance to finish the current chapter, but I plan to have it done by release time on Tuesday! Thank you for your patience!
12/17 update: Like many plans seem to, mine has gone awry. With being out of town most of the weekend and working the rest, the next chapter isn't quite ready to drop just yet. We are entering into the final real arc I had planned for Shadowborn, and rather than rushing to complete the chapters to get them out and potentially risk leaving you all hanging in the middle of the action, I think I'm going to take a brief hiatus so that I can make sure the next arc doesn't have any interruptions.
Before anyone panics, while the "ending" I have in mind for Shadowborn is one I feel would be a decently natural ending, I do have a number of plans to continue the world through either a sequel series or through spinoffs. Either way, there will probably be a sizeable break after Shadowborn is done where the most I will do is update some of the earlier chapters I'm not overly happy with while I work on other projects.
In any case, I plan to get back into dropping two chapters a week as soon as I'm able, holiday scheduling permitting! If you have questions or queries about anything at all, feel free to ask them in the comments. Thanks as always for your patience, and I'll see you for the next chapter in Zaren's journey!
(Final) Normally I get rid of these update chapters when they're no longer needed, but since this one has some actual information and discussion in the comments I'll leave it here.
Thank you for the update and if we don't see another chapter until next year then have a wonderful christmas and new year!
What book have you been waiting for? Also no worries it's the holidays~ :D
Wind and Truth, book 5 of the Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. Possibly the greatest fantasy series of our generation (in my humble opinion)
@EApathy given the size of that tome, guess we'll see you next year!
@Herewiss13 unfortunately for my wallet I read faster than I write. I'm already almost 900 pages in and will likely have it finished tomorrow or the next day...
@EApathy all of my favorite scribble hub authors combined cannot sate my appetite for fiction. glad ur binge is going well
@EApathy Now I see why you have writers block lol. You can't write while your mind wants you to jump into a different epic XD.
@swordman009 You have no idea. After finishing his 1300 page book in approx. 4 days all my brain wants to do is start all 20(ish) of his books from the beginning...
@EApathy So I never read any of his books. What's the hype all about?
@swordman009 Brandon Sanderson has essentially created a uniquely vast universe out of separate standalone books and series that are connected enough to feel like an epic saga while also being contained enough that you can read them in pretty much any order you want and not be confused.
While his prose is a bit on the simpler side, his world building and unique magic systems are utterly phenomenal, and he has some of the best character writing and most intricate and entertaining plots that I've read, and I read quite a bit. That his prose is simpler, in my opinion, makes his books much more approachable for casual readers so his books can be enjoyed by a very wide audience.
Feel free to take my words with a grain of salt because he has become a bit of a role model for me and what I someday dream of creating as a writer, but I genuinely feel like he is one of the greatest authors of our generation. I vastly prefer The Stormlight Archive to the Game of Thrones novels, for instance.
Sorry for the shameless plug, but I am utterly incapable of passing up an opportunity to gas up Brandon Sanderson to literally anyone.
@EApathy Hey I asked for it lol. Does any of his story bleeds into this one? Is he one of the motivations for you becoming a writer?
@swordman009 I wish I could say he was an inspiration for me to become a writer but alas I was too stubborn to start reading his books until late last year. That said, what he's done with the Cosmere has absolutely influenced me in the kinds of things I want to write and what my dream portfolio would look like if I could simply write what I wanted to without having to worry about the publishing industry.
And while I haven't intentionally drawn from any characters or plots in his books (I'm sure I've done similar things subconsciously) I would like to think his writing has had some level of impact on mine. World building and magic systems are two of my favorite parts of writing, so he's kinda become my hero since I finally took the plunge and started reading him.
