It seems a bit too early to give a review to a novel that has a possibility of hitting 1k chapters or more, but I'm giving it 5 stars now for the excellent writing, future potential, and its novel setting.

       *Possible mild spoilers ahead*

Unlike typical stories, this one follows a protagonist with (almost) everything: Noble and genius birth into a clan at the peak of the Planes, a doting and loving family, grand exploits, and a beautiful and talented wife to boot. MC is unfortunately not blessed with talent in cultivation, suprisingly, but this only serves as a motivational factor for the future. As a result, although the MC is just a mortal, his pride and arrogance are unmatched in the Planes (in a gratifying way, the opposite of your typical overbearing young master) due to being able to stand equally with mighty cultivators through pure intellect and scholarly arts. In novels with similar MCs, this usually continues with unavoidable tragedy and loss, but Ryu Tatsuya (is that a mahouka koukou reference?) willingly suffers to change his and his family's Fate.

Even as he contiues his battle against Fate in his second life, Ryu is gifted with upstanding birth and talent, albeit in your typically dangerous and scheming family. This new reincarnation is quite pitiful and tragic, but of course this is merely another tribulation he must overcome and a character growth fertilizer cum plot driving factor.

In the beginning, this seems more like a tragic hero story, one in which the MC gruelingly strives forward with grit teeth and bloody figure to reunite with his family and once again stand at the peak of the planes. As the storyline progresses, the reader is made to understand more deeply about Fate, and that perhaps the core values to be aware of are not sadness, tragedy, pain, separation, and defiance; these are merely minor plot advancers, spices in the seasoning and icing on the cake.

As it looks as of chapter 160ish, Rise. Rising. Risen. tells the birth of a hero and the start of a legend. This is a story of growth, and the blood, sweat, and tears shed are more emphasized to give it a slightly tragic twist. Ryu Tatsuya's heroic tale is one of humbling, in which the MC's perspective and pride are made to change through trials and tribulation. One could say that this novel is eastern Cultivation/Wuxia with a creative Western Hero twist in the form of earthly and humbling growth. All in all a good story worth binging. (I tend to wait till the end of the release cycle and read em all at once lol)

P.S. This story does not have a harem tag, and personally I hope Author-san doesn't add it in the future. Right now it seems unlikely, but there are some hints of it beginning to show.

Tldr: Great world, but MC risks everything most of the time because of pride and then the author ruins it with plot armor. Everyone but the MC changes and/or grows (as of this chapter, it seems he might grow) . Follows typical tropes. It's alright.

      Cons:

      1. MC needlessly risks his life because of his pride. Typical self-harming arrogance and choices that miraculously succeed and wow everyone.

      2. Plot hole:

      Spoiler

A: The author mentions that talents above earth grade were taken away by higher plane immortals the moment they awakened. Yet the MC does a super awakening and you don't see anyone come for him. The MC also doesn't show worry or mentions that he's at risk of this happening. I'll wait for the author to realize this and make up a reason later.

      3. Plot armor. He should have died from blood loss when he was whipped, and when dodging the arrows in the throne games. They do hit him because he can't predict everything, but that is exactly why after hours of arrows and attacks he can't fully predict, one should have killed him.

      [collapse]

      4. The author praises the MC too heavily. Imagine the MC doing anything, and then you'll see the author proceed to explain how awesome he is for doing what he's doing. And while it is true, when repeated too often it gets stale. I get it, he's great, no need to emphasize it every chapter.

      5. Stale MC. Very little character development so far.  It's improving in this last chapter, so I'll give it a chance.

      Pros:

      1. The MC is arrogant but he's not petty. In other trash novels the MC kills people for stuff like getting glared at, or because someone doesn't talk to him with enough respect. Because how dare they not treat someone they just met as a god? *Yes, it's sarcasm*

      2. Characters have depth and aren't just discarded or forgotten after one face slapping interaction.

      3. The story and history are interesting, well connected and growing. Unlike other novels, where the author seems to just be making things up as he goes, leading to horrible quality. This story seems to have been well planned from the start. Even if there are some fixable plotholes here and there, or a few grammar errors, the end  result is pretty good.

Finishing the first volume, my first impression was similar to that of Emperor’s Domination.

The cultivation system is thoroughly fleshed out, enough that I don’t wrap my head around it at times, but it still feels natural.

To me, the best aspects are always the face slapping. I like when the main character isn’t arrogant but just has an abundance of confidence.

One of the items that RRR has over ED is that the MC has true character motivation. In ED, most if not whole arcs were simply plot filler, enjoyable plot filler, but plot filler nonetheless.

The only worthwhile scenes were the sect destructions at the end of each arc. I can’t be certain that RRR won’t devolve into that, but it has started in a completely different direction. It’s just that sometimes that goal can feel far away and the MC or author might lose sight of it.

I’m getting ahead of myself. It’s a quality read. Just make sure to binge read it. I, for one, forget what happens between long periods of time.

The story seems pretty good so far.👍👍 This novel is better than those chinese novel who only solves every problem with their fist... This MC here always use his mind, scheming and planning ahead before doing something unlike those idiots MC out there who only rely on PLOT ARMOR
