First, this story is quite good, but you'll need patience to read it, as the beginning is quite slow. Second, this story is not for everyone, which is one of the reasons I'm rating it a 3 and choosing to stop reading it here, despite the writing being mostly enjoyable.
So, now i'll outline a few points for those interested in reading it.
Pros:
- The author isn't afraid to introduce new characters instead of relying solely on the familiar ones from the original work.
- Some secondary characters are more than just cannon fodder; some of them actually do receive a good amount of development.
- The protagonist is powerful due to their lineage but not overwhelmingly so, given their lack of training and young age.
- The protagonist's (adoptive) family plays a significant role in the story, rather than merely serving as part of his backstory.
Cons:
- The initial arc is particularly slow and dull. While this makes sense as it lays the groundwork for the future, the author spends far too much time on it, stretching it out over 30-40 chapters.
- Some plot points feel a just a bit forced, though elaborating further would involve spoilers.
- The protagonist is forced to be responsible for others despite still being a child.
- Major changes to the canon occur solely because the protagonist exists (their birth is, of course, a deviation, but this refers to events happening only because they were born in the first place).
Neutral:
- The story features a large number of secondary characters, some of whom appear frequently.
- The protagonist struggles to control certain aspects of their power.

I started reading this rewrite of Dragonkin in Danimachi because I have never been disappointed by the changes that Authors have made in their stories before.
I am NOT disappointed.
Intrigued to know why the Author made the changes? Yes.
Shocked? Yes.
The story has gone from something that could have been considered 'Cotten Candy Fluff' without the 18+ moments it had. To something intense in emotions and gritty, tragedy.
Don't know where the story is going. Don't know if I can endure the ride. But DANG IT ALL, I am pulling the seat belt tighter and making sure that the retainer bars are locked in.
