James was a hustler who'd succeeded in retiring early, only for the pandemic to ruin all of his plans. He spent two years locked up inside playing video games and watching movies, only to be spiritually abducted just as the situation started improving. Now his name is Jin and he's a part of the Illusion Room Sect. A cultivation sect that creates scenarios for combat-focused cultivators to hone their skills. In other words, fully immersive video games. Will the gaming knowledge of his past life help him succeed in such a cut-throat world? Will he manage to break his two-year pandemic induced dry-spell? And most importantly, will he ever manage to surpass the rank of cannon fodder?
The story is good, interesting. As a story about a modern Westerner passing through an Eastern Cultivation world with not only a different culture but different customs and morals it is interesting. I would give it a rating of 4.2 or 4.3 out of 5 but I would end it with 5 stars for its innovation. (So why did you give it 3 stars?)
This is a story about creating games in another world. In the best stories on this topic (in my opinion), the MC's role is as a supplier or creator of the games and his involvement in the story outside of these elements is minuscule. If I had to do an average it would be, 50% of the story involves the games, either production, explanation, the "players" playing or random conversations about them, 25% is the change that these games brought to the "players" and to the real world, 10% change that the new game brought to the MC, 10% other people's plots that probably involve the MC or that will be later resolved due to new and old games released by the MC and 5% is just about the MC and its development without involving games or their creation.
In this story, the author wrote that he intends to create a whole story around the MC. Okay, as I already wrote, he did a good job. But that's not why I came to read it, the name of the story is "Video Game Developer in a Cultivation World" and I want to see exactly that. The fact that he has to adapt modern games, language and tools to make sense in a world of cultivation is very interesting and what hooked me in this story. But it also discouraged me, because to play a character who fights with a spear he had to train with the spear for 6 months and even then he would be considered incompetent in this world. If he wants to make a combat "game" with more weapons and combat styles. How much time will he have to spend learning different styles? Or does he just intend to make games with "weak" and therefore ignorable characters in this new world? (His sect develops illusion rooms with scenarios for training, not fun, so no matter how playable or exciting his game is, if the "character" is weak or at least inferior to another room his will be ignored).
An interesting and new part (I really liked it) is that his sect receives orders for scenarios, and with his knowledge of games he can make games with scenarios that don't exist in this world. But again the fact that he has to know the techniques used because it will not be players behind computers but martial arts masters with years of experience and the strength to chop down trees with their bare hands who will be testing the games defeats many possibilities for good games. Be presented and the fact that he cannot create good games just for the sake of creating, just for fun as there will be consequences for his stay in the sect takes a lot of the wind out of this story.
And the worst part, at least for me, is that there are only a few people testing his games and those who do only evaluate the flaws in the characters' martial techniques. There is no scenario of gamers, playing their games and discovering new and exciting scenes and fun in games. (So far) It's just a group of stony-faced cultivators coldly and objectively evaluating the MC's failures in their games.

I was, maybe even still am of cultivation novels and their... bull. But this one is really refreshing, the idea itself with video games isnt new, but the way its done is very much unique and honestly makes sense in terms of world building which is great. Deserves 5 stars thats for sure, just wish there was more chapters, so wait I shall Noja.

The story promised me video game creation in a xianxia setting, and it delivered.
It's still very early, but so far this has been a good read. I look forward to seeing more chapters, and hope we expand on the cast too. I have a hope that we can get an actual development team with cool characters, much like we have in real life

As someone who wants to make games I am very jealous of the protagonists abilities after reincarnating, though maybe with less risk of death.
The story is interesting where a westerner finds himself in an eastern cultivation world, and uses his knowledge of games to make unique combat simulation illusions.
Looking forward to more chapters.

Loving the story and this concept. The MC is an engaging character that brings levity and a unique insight into the typical environment of the cultivation world. The way the author characterizes the different interactions and characters/sects is remarkably intriguing and creates a sense of wonder for his world-building. Really enjoyed reading it and am looking forwards to more!#goQQ

I really like novels where video games play an integral part of the plot so I might be biased, but this one is really good. The concept is so original, to mix it with a cultivation world, and its done so well.
