The day it all started was supposed to be an ordinary day.
For Sophia Rothmer, that meant escorting a new delver through a simple dungeon’s Tier One area. Sure, she knew her mother had seen a future where she ended up in another world on her own adventure, but that was months ago; it probably wasn’t going to happen.
For a group of offworld mercenaries, that meant damaging a dungeon’s instance core, snagging some extra treasure, and blaming it on either Sophia or her trainee.
For Dav Carolan, that meant exploring a new world. He may not know what’s going on, but he’ll figure it out; he always does.
The heist didn’t go as planned. After a disorienting and potentially life-altering trip through the place between everything known as the Origin, Sophia and Dav find themselves in a cave. They have no idea what happened to the bandits, no idea where they are, and Sophia seems to have lost her Skills.
It’s not an auspicious welcome to the Broken Lands.

The content warnings are mostly to give me room to write; this fiction is not intended to be edgy, but there are times when someone is seriously injured and the Bad Guys sometimes do Bad Things. The characters also had lives before the story and they're ... not always happy.
No AI assistance was used in the writing, but there is AI art.

Chapter 100. 2024.12.10. 5/5
I read the previous work by this author and I liked it. It was mainly focused on the Lore, since the protagonist (Sophia's father) was a time traveler and his victory, due to his experience and methodicalness, was inevitable as death. Considering the size of the previous work, the author is definitely experienced, so at least the Lore in this work will be of the highest quality. (And the optimization will most likely be better).
This work is not a direct continuation of the previous one, and all the active characters at the moment are new, as well as the world (Sophia was a child in book 1). There are references and hidden details for readers of book 1, but overall for new readers, collecting details about book 1 can be an enjoyable experience, since these details are more of an additional part than a foundation. Although a new reader will be needed for a more accurate assessment.
The protagonist and her companions, while somewhat educated, are still generally closer to trained novices, and are prone to mistakes/low efficiency. Being transported to another world that functions differently also causes problems. Because of this, the stakes are more real, and the fights are more spectacular than in Book 1. Although tragedy is unlikely, and the drama is unlikely to be grueling (they add spice, but are not an essential ingredient for a good dish). There is romance, but it is mostly off-screen and not the main part of the novel. Overall, the work is still on the list of relaxing reads, and is especially good to read after something emotional.
The author's writing speed and consistency in chapter output are among the best. The pace of the work itself is average. X=2Y The work will most likely have over 300 chapters. (I have not found a normal metric and definition of this concept, in hundreds of works and reviews read. Speed is relative and without a metric this concept is constantly bursting at the seams. The idea of using a function to describe the pace was discovered by me recently.)
The idea of using AI images for additional description is good, but the execution of this idea by other authors often causes only rejection. This does not happen here, since the images are well edited! They do not give off the feeling of a disgusting semi-finished product.
In addition, the AI images of monsters, landscapes, buildings are much better than images of people and animals, and are often not inferior to an artist. And the alien and foreign look of such images unexpectedly becomes a significant plus when used in a Fantasy work. And the presence of a written description of the images perfectly solves possible problems before they arise.
The only clearly weak point of this work that I found: the similarity of the build/foundation of Serenity and Sophia + Dove. The author needs to spend more time to prevent the Sophia+Dove duo from becoming a copy of Serenity. The current situation can be explained by Sophia's foundation and her influence on Dove, but if it continues it could become a significant problem.
...
Overall, I recommend this book. It feels more popular and appeals to a much larger group of readers than Book 1. So you're more likely to enjoy it and then move on to Book 1 for more than the other way around. (Although for me, both books are my taste and Book 1 is probably preferable... even if I forgot the title.)
