In a futuristic world infused with magic, 18-year-old James Thompson has always been a delinquent, living with his adoptive family and dreaming of a mundane life as a civil worker. He scoffs at the idea of becoming a Magician, risking life and limb to defend humanity from the monstrous Devils. His adoptive brother, Lewis, a bookish nerd with a frail body, harbors a starkly different aspiration: to become a heroic Magician. James mocks Lewis for his physical weaknesses, believing his dream to be impossible.
However, everything changes when a catastrophic Devil's Stampede ravages their city, claiming the life of his beloved adoptive mother. Consumed by grief and a thirst for vengeance, James' disdain for magic transforms into a burning resolve. He decides to become a Mage with the sole purpose of eradicating Devils while supporting his remaining family.
