The story initially interested me and the writing was readable for the first 30 or so chapters. Unfortunately, the quality drastically decreases as you continue reading and switches to “from the heart” slop writing that seems to plague this website. What I mean by this is the author appears to have been replaced by a non-English native speaker who only writes the bare minimum of a sentence so the reader can get the gist of what they mean then tell you how characters are feeling instead of showing. Things like: “[This character] didn’t like that” or “It was extremely frightening” as a type of commentary after describing something. Character and location names seem to switch for no reason as well as the decision to introduce characters that are inverses of other characters names to make it worse. Such as the MC being named Qi Yuan and talking to Yuan Qi.

Everything becomes very one note as things become repeated over and over and characters never change. There must have been 5 or 6 chapters about the same group of people who were jealous the MC was chosen by something and they would use it better after which they tell themselves they shouldn’t take it from him because they are righteous or something. After 60 chapters I started skimming through chapters because I was still interested in the plot but not the writing until that eventually ran out as well. What really hammered home my decision to stop reading was a comment written by someone who also appeared to be a non-native English writer who used the same grammatically incorrect style to say that others weren’t understanding the points the writer was making. When in reality the writing was just not good.

Tl:dr The writing quality gets worse as the story goes on until you feel you’re reading a story written by google translate which quite honestly might be the case.

Other than some small problems switching back and forth between name translations (Qise Peak vs Seven Light Peak for example) this is a interesting take in well trodden territory. Typical Xianxia setting with a transmigrated protagonist, but the protagonist is very atypical. Qi Yuan is sneaky and boastful, crazy and calculating, all at once. Typical of novels with a mental patient as the main character, the misunderstandings are plentiful but in this one, they aren't the main driving force of the story.
The main driving force of the story rather lies in the different epic excursions he does while traveling into the different games.

I can't recommend this at all. The story is fine and entertaining enough, but the translation is borked to the point of near unreadability. The translator's other work suffered from the same problems this does, but that story was slow paced with few characters, while this story, on the other hand, has a huge amount of characters, locations, techniques, and so on. It would already be hard enough keeping track of it all if this was written natively in English, but trying to learn 3 or more versions of each name that appears, as they change chapter to chapter, makes it downright impossible. You end up spending more time trying to figure out who is who and what is what, than you do actually reading the story.

In the other story, I could wave it away as just forgetting names and not writing notes, but this is very clearly a well edited AI translation, but the editor doesn't know how to properly prompt the AI and doesn't want to fix the mistakes themself.

I've given this a five star review. This novel, although not perfectly translated (or even written at some parts) is more then readable, with only some minor mistakes here and there. Now why then the 5 stars? Because I absolutely adore Qi Yuan (the MC) his style of witty humour really speaks to me, the just so slightly over the topness of it all adds so much to it. It feels like a labour of love, a truly great, definetly comedic, novel. Which can still have its moments in which other things than the comedy shine through.

If you're a fan of novels such as A Will Eternal (Er Gen), or cultivation novels with a comedic undertone. I think you'll adore this one, give it a try.

It was hilarious at the start but the lack of the world building ruined the story for me. Because the MC constantly switching realm it made the world seems so much smaller than the real earth. The MC interact so little with his surrounding that made the story less appealing and boring for me.
