Status: chapter 362 – impromptu interview.

I absolutely used to consider this a 5 star series and waited for each chapter release. It was already a slow paced story but the genre was something like Adventure+Rpg+some action. Now this has turned into a city builder with MC acting like a simulation character doing his daily job like a salaryman.

The thing that made it worse for me was that this story already barely has any action but atleast the focus on MC's growth was nice. But now in chapters after 300 I guess the story has completely shifted to side characters and MC for some reason spends entire time doing side quest like actions instead of focusing on any overarching plot or his family.

Apart from the recent change in story focus there were parts I did not like originally but they have became much worse now. For each new class MC picks the trials he undergoes are too exaggeratedly long, tedious and mentally exhausting to read. The bad part is these trials continue to get longer and boring with no direct relevance to main plot of story if there is one.

Writing this review I just feel sad because I absolutely loved this story including the slow pace, well described level+class system and focus on MCs growth but after a point of time author does nothing with it. MC is strong now but each chapter now feels like filler and MC lacks character and backbone to take initiative it feels. Now this story is just stagnating but I will be glad to positively review it if it changes.

I have been with this novel from the start, from the day it releases its first chapter.

When I first read it in its infancy I knew I liked that novel.

MC grew in character as time went by, he is not an asshat.

It is a progressive novel with ever-changing scenarios that keep us hooked, you may go away but will return for more. If I have money to spend I would have become a patron way early sadly I do not for which I am sorry and remorseful.

This novel is reaching its puberty now.

"The Runesmith" holds a special place among my favorite reads on this platform. The worldbuilding is particularly noteworthy, painting a vivid and immersive backdrop for the story. While the pacing might feel sluggish to some readers, I found it lent a certain depth to the narrative, allowing for a more thorough exploration of the characters and their surroundings.

However, it's worth mentioning a couple of drawbacks. The introduction of the 'Logical Thinker' skill for the protagonist is intriguing, yet its inconsistent application during moments of peril can be disappointing. Additionally, the protagonist's tendency to evade danger rather than confront it head-on may test the patience of some readers.

Despite these criticisms, "The Runesmith" remains a solid recommendation. Its strengths lie in its imaginative storytelling and the richness of its fantasy world. While it may not be flawless, it offers an engaging escape for those seeking a compelling adventure.

Baffled by the high ratings. MC with high Intelligence that is seemingly brainded, MC with "Logical Thinking" skill that uses no logic whatsoever. Author that forgets things mentioned only a few chapters previously. I skipped ahead from where I dropped and skimmed some to see what it was like and it did not leave me hopeful. Plenty of grammar and spelling mistakes. Not worth the time.

Status: chapter 117 – gaining knowledge.

Starting is ok, but gets boring,

Crafting description is boring. Fights are just spamming skills by using spell scroll and then rune equipment.

MC can use any skills to solve the situation cause his rune can make any.

    The plots also seems forced.

So I think I am done with this.  I was hoping for some sort of plot or overall goal.  But the goal is.... runesmithing.  Literally that is it.  There are some stuff that happens and then he goes off and hides himself in a room for years doing runesmithing stuff.  Then some other mini conflict happens and then after he hides himself for years in a room and does runesmithing stuff. Ad nauseum. All the characters are there... and then they are gone.   About 9/10 of this story is purely non action runesmithing stuff. You could cut out about 80 chapters up to this point and still have the same exact story with nothing lost.

I just can't seem to figure out how this story has a rating of 4.5 cause from what I can see the story is subpar, at best. The story starts off with the good ol truck kun trope, MC being reborn into a child that everyone seems to hate for some reason, thats okay but the story never goes into depth about his family except that they hate him. Thats okay too, then comes the part about his crafting profession  that author doesnt have a clue on how to make it even remotely interesting, cause after one or two chapters I have straight up skipped most crafting paras. Thats okay too, maybe its like that, cause of the slice of life part, but then no cause you see every other character that gets introduced to us is tossed away without any second thought to it (I'm not even gonna mention the gnome girl and how every interaction with her is a pain to read). I guess all that's left is the action and fantasy, maybe that will interest the readers? NO! It doesnt. There's barely any action and when there are actions scene its so bland that I'd rather not go through that. The fantay setting and world building has been non existent so far, maybe there's some but all that is taken over by the overly long crafting chapters or non-meaningfull character interactions or our MC being a introvert hermit. The novel has a lack of direction, things happening just for the sake of it.

MC doesn't get tired of playing a really good person. MC acts with his emotions. You see that MC speaks logically and then he acts as if he has never talked about them. I went to the first parts of the novel and he has a feature like a logical thinker hahahahaha........ the intelligence statistics in the novel It doesn't really increase intelligence. MC finds himself with problems because he is a good person, he gets rid of problems thanks to his plot armor. MC mentality is garbage.

Status: chapter 303 – tier 3 trial starts.

The best way to describe this story is thoroughly mediocre. It is by far the lowest rated story I'd say is readable. It is more like a template, really, to produce the bare minimum for an entertaining story.

I've decided to hide some of the issues I have with it under the spoiler tab, despite not really being spoilers. The reality I can't remember them.

    Spoiler

There are loads of misspellings, some of which can be confused for world building or cause general confusion. Anything that can be time skipped will be time skipped, regardless of how much time is skipped, with a few comments afterwards. Very few characters are believable and are usually rounded up into a self made cliché that is only broken upon interacting with the main character. The author copies and pastes the same relevant paragraph constantly to help pad out the length of chapters. Things that should absolutely come back to bit the main character in someway or another never does. No other character perspectives, outside of those interacting with the main character in person, it is really a huge waste of world building that could justify the time skips.

    [collapse]

One thing it does do right is that the main character realistically grows as time goes on.

If the author reads this, you really need to go back and write some side stories following the perspective of various characters for the time skips. I believe that would drastically improve the story.

Frankly, it's a great story in many aspects (world building, character, abilities, relationships between characters) I recommend it.
