The world of Mecc has fallen into permanent night. Monsters roam the countryside, the sun refuses to rise, and towns and cities alike are falling into disarray. Their only hope is the ancient prophecy, which says a hero of light will emerge to save humanity in their darkest hour... 20 years from now.
Too little, too late for those living now.
In the midst of the the apocalypse, college student Oscar McAllister finds himself out of a job and out of luck. After accidentally ending up slaying a daemon on his way to get the groceries however, Oscar is haplessly drawn into the world of adventuring and questing, and with the old world falling apart - Oscar becomes one of the many tasked with trying to hold everything together. As he fights however, he is forced to face not just the evil that lurks in the shadows: but the indifference that lurks in people’s hearts.
The world is playing a waiting game with human lives, and Oscar is caught right in the middle of it.

Note: This is a dark LitRPG story, with dungeons, levelling, and quests in a contemporary setting. Unfortunately, I'm only supposed to select nine genres, and Scribblehub is a bit weird with tags (apparently there's tags for disfigurement and divorce, but alcoholism is just a bit too far lol).
I've also selected all of the content warnings, since I'm Australian and I have absolutely no filter.
Permanight is currently on hiatus while I prepare a rewrite based on the current feedback I've recieved. I'm sorry for the bad news, but I want to bring the world to life in a way that feels real, and at the moment - I'm not entirely convinced that I'm doing that.
In a world where I assume every single sunglasses manufacturer has gone bankrupt, Permanight is a rich and atmospheric tale of surviving in a post-apocalyptic world.
Style
Written in first-person, the story does a marvellous job in conveying the state of the world as well as the mental state of the protagonist. The author also has a command of the English language that trumps 90% of the other fictions you'll read on this website. Even if English is not your native language, Goswick expertly crafts each scene so that your mind can fill in the blanks.
Story
Pacing is where this sunless fiction truly shines. There's healthy amounts of action, reaction and interaction which drives the story forward without feeling stale. Bad things happen in this world, and the characters, their motivations as well as the society around them felt true and gritty to the situation at hand. You have been warned—this plot sucks you in harder than
a good BJ.
Grammar

Character
The main character, even if you may not agree with his actions or decisions, is portrayed in such a way that you'll still emphathise with him and root for him. His actions (or the implied lack thereof) has true ramifications on his psyche, at times having PTSD-ish vibes, which Goswick experly illustrates with his superb prose. How characters interact and their relationships with each other feel like something straight of a Telltale's The Walking Dead interactive story game (I know it's a bit too early to relate it to that, but I'm getting the same vibes, ya feel me?).
To Conclude
Do not expect getting free perms a night by your local hair salon. Grass doesn't grow here (I think). Only your imagination does, and boy does it run wild in Permanight. Read it now—while you're still lucky you have easily accessible light.
