The Talverts travel to a parallel Earth, much like our own, to help their benefactor fix its problems through technology. But there are those with powers who must hide their gifts or be persecuted or worse. Young Chris Talvert, an air elementalist, finds himself bored of hiding his power until he meets three new friends with like elemental powers. But some have found an interest in them and their powers threatening to break the veil of Attunement secrecy.
