The city, hell the world, is falling apart from a lack of care and resources. But hey, at least I have a job. Or not. Turns out that even in this day and age, companies would rather automate than hire more people. At least they gave me a decent chunk of change. Now if only I could find another job.
Yeah, right, like that is going to happen. Not in this economy. Not in this city. Not with my high school degree. No. I needed to do something else. Maybe I could play the new game I keep hearing about. The one that rich people are pouring money into. All so that they can get an item, influence, help, guides, anything to get an edge over their friends.
While I have never been the best at various games, I have found my little niches in each game. All I would need to do here was get in and find a spot before someone else did. Then I could try and take advantage of the rich assholes while I could.
I mean, what could go wrong?
Authors Note: While the story is not written with AI or even edited by it, I did use it for the creature art (though the art for each book is done by an artist I paid) and for finding errors. AKA i shared the story with ChatGPT and it pointed out issues. I went through and edited it myself, at times heeding its advice while at others going against it. Still, I know there will be issues in the story. For that I am sorry.
Oh and there is a bit of psychological beatings that occur in this story. As far as I know, and have written, it is only really going to happen in the first book. Given that I am currently writing the second and editing the first (again) I cannot guarantee this. The reason I am stating this is because people have commented in the past about this and pointed out that I needed to change the tags to include horror. Hence its inclusion here.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the story.
Well....apparently the spoiler tag doesn't work in the description. Ahh well. Just so you know, the gender change is at the end of the first book. I had to build up to it and such.
Yeah, the story starts off slow. Yeah, the protagonist is weak for awhile. Yeah, the first arc can be pretty long, but it sure is one of hell of a good read.
From character growth, stereotypes, and world building, this book is a great read. The growth is slow, but realistic, which is something I enjoy.
Since the video game world is ultra realistic, the training and slow growth is a requirement to have the upper hand. The players rely on the videogame mechanics instead of training, but the protagonist is underleveled and can still win simply because of his training and tricks. And the best part, he learns from his mistakes.
These are the kinds of things that I love about the book, and I wish to see more on how the protagonist will grow and discover.
I typically don't write reviews unless I think the author truly deserves it, but you did one hell of a great job writing this, and I wish to see more of what this story will entail.
