So I decided to post my review of the story after I finish reading it and since I don't really knew much of english vocabulary, I'll make it simple.

The first 300+ chapter, its interesting, MC have goals, the story have many interesting fights, but after that point onward, You can just swap the story title into "Grinding the novel" or "The unskippable training arc arc".

The story just didn't progress at all, stay in one place. Grind, grind, grind, and keep grinding. The way how the character get stronger bite the story back and the way how the author minimally use "skipping time for convenient writing purposes" make matter worse.

Chapter 300+ to chapter 600+ is where this sh*t happen, this hell keep going for 300 f**king chapter until author decided that theres more convinient way the MC has a way to grind, it was boring as f**k I tell you to read all those sh*t, goodthing I just skimp all those sh*t and I stopped until I feel that things finally getting interesting again. I f**king bet those 300 chapters can be summarized and compacted into only 5 chapters if the author is not an idiot to stay and keep forcing his original writing style to write all those sh*t, anyway moving on.

As I said, chapter 600+ is where things finally starts getting interesting again. Then story finally throw its big reveal, the author already set this up from the early chapter so eventually he'll reveal the big surprise, and honestly, he got me with it.

What I thing about the End Game, the End Game actually feels like the End Game, theres nothing much to say other than congratulation with finishing these story. Not many people could properly finish their own story.

      Re-reviewed @ Ch. 395

I don't want to discourage the author, who has done a lot of work. There are lots of good concepts in this story worth revising and working on further. However, I think you need to better know your audience, since you are intentionally posting on RR; the story is light on LitRPG mechanics, doesn't reward the reader, and is painful for people who like to project into the charaters they are reading about (RPG fans).

I encourage readers to read the authors next story. He is great. This story... ugh!

Overall Score: I give high marks for the story’s grammar and some creative elements. However, at the end of the day, the review is all about whether or not I enjoy reading this story... I originally did, but lost interest! What was originally a good spin on the system apocalypse became an epic tale where the protagonist painfully grinds for multiple chapters before briefly winning, only to immediately face even bigger setbacks, and repeat, and repeat. The main character never scores a "win" that sticks, thus never feels like he advanced, even if his stats say he is improving. The most recent chapter teased some releif and then sucker punches readers when the MC finds everyone he cares about is gone, those who knew him have long forgotten him (and treat him like trash), and those he once knew super strong like him (his years of torture and solitude were pointless... he'd be equally strong, or stronger, had he stayed home). So, not fun.

Style: Authors sentence structure, syntax and overall voice are used well. Good use of quotes, punctuation, and tables. There is little to no confusion regarding who is speaking or whose thoughts are being presented.

Grammar: Author has a fluent grasp of English. There are occasional grammatical issues. Die-hard grammar nazis might stomp their jack-boots, but I personally didn’t have any difficulty quickly reading through chapters.

Story: System Apocalypse genre. The author does a pretty good job of using LitRPG elements to explain the character’s development under the system. But, while some LitRPG elements are followed mechanically, the story is missing the flavor of RPG. The character has no class, titles, or clear goals. There are no rewards except for more power, which never seems to help the protagonist do anything to improve his situation. Reading the story is simply frustrating.

Character (s) : The main character is a grinding fool who becomes unbelieveable once readers realize that he can be stuck on islands, thrown into isolation, hated by everyone, banished to strange planets, or hell, and he just keeps on going... without any real payout, encouragement from other characters (no friends or people to remember him), etc. He doesn't even seem particularly vengeful or hate-driven. Any normal person would be hallucinating and irrevocably insane. The characters motivations "I want this all to end."... which after reading the story for several hundred chapters, I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND. (The author even makes the MC impotent, so even the journey is flavorless; chasing women, or even a "crush" aren't possible for him.) In short, not relateable for readers and not fun.

I’m torn. On the one hand, I’m interested, and I’m sure this will keep my attention, at least for a while longer, but on the other...

There’s no doubt in my mind that this deserves a 4. It doesn’t have that bland, generic feel I’d give a 3 for, but it’s surprisingly hard to pin down why a 5 also doesn’t feel right. And I think that’s part of the problem. On some level, I don’t get this series. To make a long review short, there are inconsistencies that I can’t quite place and threads that just end and aren’t brought up again. A lot of them can be explained away as a product of Leon’s understandably fragile mental state or a sampling of his hardships and frustrations, but whether they should, whether they add to the experience or distract from it is tough to say. To explain that further will require some pretty heavy spoilers for... basically everything through around ch 70.

      Spoiler

Take the skills he learned on the island for instance. Unless I missed something, he was fast and strong enough to run on water carrying a 50kg stone box. Chapters are dedicated to him training his body, dashing around the island, outrunning the fish monsters, complaining about how the box chafes... only to drop the idea almost without provocation, and his superhuman speed is never mentioned again. It’s not used to travel long distances, outmaneuver enemies, cross bodies of water, or even grind for more stat points. Depending on how generously you interpret it, that could be a bid to make the audience sympathize with Leon’s failure and desperation... or a blatant waste of time that breaks the Law of Conservation of Detail. For that matter, the Angel plants he left on the island for some reason have vanished too, and with them his Alchemy, which for all he knew could have meant he never saw a potion again. Again, was he heroically desperate or irredeemably short-sighted?

Then there’s the fact that after he escapes the island, everything just feels... gray. Except for in a couple notable instances, Leon doesn’t emote. There’s no triumph at escaping the island, satisfaction at clearing the dungeons, excitement over new loot, and I can’t tell if that’s bad writing or a subtle nod to the trauma he suffered being alone for so long, bottling up his feelings and leveling his mental fortitude.

      [collapse]

So, to break down my rating... all told, the series without Leon in it nets a solid 3. It’s a good foundation for the characters to dance around on. In the end, it comes down to the protagonist. Depending on how you handle subverted expectations and how you interpret his character, the rating could be... anything really, from a 1-star dumpster fire to a 5-star masterpiece. I’m on the fence personally, but for now at least, the mystery makes for an interesting puzzle. Thus, 4 stars.

I can't stand MC, his way of thinking that goes beyond common reasoning, it seems that his intelligence points went down the drain instead of increasing his wisdom a little. He always complains that he is unlucky but never increases his luck stat that he is at 1.

From the beginning of the novel, both the plot and its development have many inconsistencies and are very forced in certain parts. I would like to give it 2 stars for the frustrations it made me feel but I am going to give it a 3 because despite personal opinion, objectively the novel is easy to read, you just have to turn off your damn brain.

I do apologize to the author of this novel for what I am about to say. Which is I hope to discourage others from reading this.

There is a reason why this novel is so popular with so many readers, yet not a single 5 star review.

I agree with pretty much everything TDM said. This novel started fantastically, I loved the idea and premise. The locked on an island having to learn by himself the new ways of the world. Grinding until he could solo what was considered for the time the strongest creatures on the planet. It was great, it had the potential, and I saw amazing things coming.

But that was all until he left the island. TDM sums it up well, this isn't Dragon Ball, where MC gets strong, beats bad guy. Bigger bad guy shows up, MC gets stronger, beats bad guy, repeat. He just continually gets his S*** pushed in over and over.

And the author, for some odd reason, thinks that's fun. I fell like this is an experiment to see how long it takes to break the human psyche. Oh, not the MC's, but ours as a reader.

Edit: Decided to check as of now, the current chapter is 488, and in the last 10 chapters only 200 people on average have viewed each chapter. For reference chapter 400 had 1k views, and chapter 1 had 14k. As you can see, the viewers although not vocal, don't lie.

I really like novels with the premise of monsters appearing in the world with rpg elements and was looking for something like solo levelling.. But I just couldn't keep reading.. Ughh

The MC at the start of the novel is supposed to be a 22 yo college graduate, but has no experience in games.. Okay that might explain some stupid ideas and decisions he makes to some extent *though still annoying*

But the author pushes the MC to do or don't do stuff that aren't consistent with his character without any explanation, makes it really hard me wish to slap the au** cough the MC..

      examples:

      Spoiler

1-never even thinking about the luck stat with no explanation whatsoever..

2-leave the leaves that can make potions on the island and don't think about planting them again 'alchemy skill totally forgotten, cause author says so'.

3-blind self confidence, as if no one can hurt him

4-has to ask for help with getting back home even though he could go on his own given his power, and even though has blind self confidence, reason offered: can't cross through the long ocean, may get involved in war if travel by land, or will get frozen to death if he goes by the roundabout route -like ice resistance doesn't exist-..

It could have been offered a more reasonable explanation.. Like wanting to get news of his parents city.. But we get instead: the athour says so and the MC has to hurry

5-going from a nice guy to who doesn't want to kill to someone who wants to harm and deliberately creating opportunities without paying attention to the consequences and without knowing the opponents power..

      [collapse]

These are just a few of the top of my head, and there are a lot more problems in the details too.. And these problems just made me disconnect from the novel and can't immerse myself in it anymore as I hope the MC will die and relieve the world.. So I don't recommend it unless you don't care about logic

What can I say... Basic system, good starting point, what else...? Oh right, an immature MC that had no growth what-so-ever.

The guy wasted almost all his stats on Mana that can be raised by raising other stats or other methods, even the simplest ones like Luck is practically ignored while complaining on his situation or bad luck.

That's not all, if there is one thing I learned from solidary MCs over the many novels I have read, any MC would learn to be not too trusting and always cautious of others regardless of who they are. No dumb sh*t will just say I have powerful magic to every single person he meets and let them take advantage of them.

It's just fiction? this is a mathafakin Fantasy-Realism if we categorize this work and this genre is known for It's limitations on how much bullcrap can be thrown. And an Japanese Isekai Beta Protagonist MC is one of the most taboo things to do in this kinds of story archetype, he's not even Japanese but an darn bloody American.

Aiiii~ I always wonder how authors who writes with this kinds of MCs self-insert themselves in this kinds of stuff and enjoy it.

If you came here for a story matching the title or image, you have lost your way traveler. The MC is as American as a bowl of ramen and the story is as bland as filtered water. If you want a OP MC with some ties to reality, this ain't it cause no one who spends years alone on an island would leave after spending a week with family to handle geopolitics in a post apocalypse. Pro tip author, regular people don't drop family to ensure peace between two countries who can barely interact with each other at the moment.

not bad concept, but there is no plot, no goal, noting interesting happening. Only the MC wanking around.

there is nationalism starting at c38, which left a bad taste.

from there on the MC is op. Nothing can hurt him.! (There is the end for me.)
