A boy with unknown origins appears in a cave, completely abandoned. And whether it be from fortunate or unfortunate circumstances, he comes across Krieus; the dark dragon. Who is currently on the run from the dragon empire. He decides to take Areon under his wing even though it’s ridiculously risky. Since dragons are unanimously hated world-wide. There is basically no where he can take this child without them being hated together.
But at least they have each other, right? And the big strong dragon can protect the little munchkin… That’s only the case most of the time. Because where Krieus just wants to live a quiet life, Areon is always answering the call of life-threatening adventure.
This is an interesting story with a rather uncommon premise. While yes, the "protagonists raised by monsters" trope did become more popular in the recent decade, It doesn't appear all that much in my opinion. So this one struck a cord for me.
Some points feel a bit strange to me:
Such as in chapter one when the protagonist, who is described as an infant, so less than a year old, can string 3 related words with an intentional goal in mind. Sure: "It's magic", but this point wasn't brough up or mentioned as weird/surprising.
There is also a bit of redundancy from over-emphasizing things:
" by surprise and being discreet" or " panting to breathe"
The story in and of itself is good, you can feel each story beat as they come which is nice. The narrative hooks, as of chapter 6 are barely there, but you can already feel them in the distance.
The grammar is good. I didn't really see any grievous mistakes or things that pulled me out of the story. But there are some vocabulary issues :
"somewhat of a mystery to even we" where "we" should be "us"
My final words are: it is a good little story, more than certainly worth the read.
