Synopsis

Aren't you tired of the typical cultivation story, where an isekai'd person comes into the world and becomes a brutal or selfish person? I know I am. So instead of being fully changed by the world, I want this protagonist to stick to their beliefs and help to change the world (and people) for the better. There will still be main character development and tests of those beliefs, but I want them to maintain that aspect.

Brief Synopsis:
American is thrown into a typical Xuanhuan cultivation world where the masses of the people are typically sacrificed for the abilities of the few. This is meant to be an alternate take on how protagonists approach these worlds. Main character comes into the world w/ scanning, healing, and monster taming abilities.

The schedule is 2 chapters/week (Tue & Fri) at 11pm. Please like, comment, and follow, as that helps me to gauge interest in the series.

Final note: I notice that many cultivation novels treat abuse or sexual assault as a throwaway tool to set a stage. I think the way it is normally done is both lazy and a disrespectful to victims. If you have any suggestions on how I can improve the way I've done it in this series, please let me know.

I want to do this the right way.

    Nice idea by the way

The general problem is that you are in a cultivation world that is just filled with murderers and the such. When will this thick headed get it to his head that being kind is a downside but being kind while having power is an upside. See where I am getting at the MC is a normal guy that didn't even started cultivation but instead flaunts his abilities everywhere. This guy healed an entire section of people you don't think people don't notice that sh*t.

What this should have have done is one literally just lay low for a month till the cultivator exams and then practice or experiment with the abilities he has at the base where there are more than enough specimen. Then when you are powerful then help people.

One of my favorite character archetypes has always been the Idealistic Realist. Someone who sees and understands how fundementaly vile and awful the world can be, but says "f**k that, I'm gonna be better" fully aware the universe is gonna kick him in the teeth for it. This protagonist exemplifies that, and I respect him for that.

Aside from that, very nice mechanics so far with regard to powers. Nice spins on common cultivation template.

I can't, no I can't anymore.I tried and tried to give this work one more chance but it keeps disappointing me, I have nothing against slow paced novels but this is taking things to a whole new level, 30 chapters down the line and folks are still discussing the abilities of MC.

Here is my two cents to you mr author :)

Having a gift for narration doesn't equates to a gift for making things interesting. Your writing style is coming out as long winding, overly elaborated and my apologies but quite lackluster and boring. You can write the same stuff and make it more interesting while keeping in concise honestly no one cares if you can describe 4 abilities in 40 chapters (at least not me).

With all that said, I wish you all the best on this venture of yours

    Spoiler

The pacing of the story is horrible there have many times I have almost dropped this story just for that the only reason I'm still reading is waiting for the MC to get screwed of from how he trusts literally anybody that he meets with in less than a day with secrets that would get him killed And how he says he naive but more like stupid after how naive can a 27 year old black man from America be.

Status: chapter 197 – getting ahead of the...

    I've been enjoying this one.

MC starts out as a dumbass who makes reckless decisions to help people, and eventually becomes less of a dumbass and seems to get better at helping people without f**king up and screwing himself and sometimes other people over. Though tbh, if an ordinary civilian from our modern world was placed in a harsh, dark cultivation world, their level of competence would be closer to that of this MC than of the average Chinese WN MC. As for the recklessness, when the MC does something reckless, his actions have consequences, but when he decides to play things safe, his inaction also has consequences, just ones on other people, so that helps make the MC's actions perhaps suboptimal but understandable. Though if someone prefers one dimensional flawless protagonists whose every action is considered optimal and objectively correct by the narrative, then they would probably not like this fic. Or they might get annoyed if they think the fic takes too long to get to the point where the MC f**ks up less due to the pacing.

Pacing-wise, the MC starts cultivating pretty early, at least if you count body cultivation, which admittedly takes a while in terms of story-time to make the MC actually strong, though for in-universe time his power growth is relatively fast. As for when he finally gets to joining a sect and starting qi cultivation, that takes over 100 chapters. Though, a lot happens before then, with the MC making decisions, facing the consequences of those decisions, making allies and enemies, getting into conflicts, making plans with his allies that'll happen while the MC is at the sect, practicing his powers, becoming more used to the setting, learning more about the world and its society and local factions, and so on.

A very good novel, just that the MC... sigh...

is a moron beyond redemption who will forgive any woman, maybe even after she kill his whole family, with just the word "sorry".

    For him, Kind=Helping Anyone. Helping a robber=Kind.

I might change this review after I caught up with the latest chapter.

Very good story. Uses tropes but doesn't rely on them. Has both funny situations and wit. Absolutely worth the read. That said...

A WARNING TO ANYONE WITH ARACHNOPHOBIA!!

    ... or creepy-crawlies in general.

Spiders are a common in this story, especially the beginning, there is no avoiding it without skipping major portions of the story and some of the author's descriptions of different situations involving them (and the bugs) is 100% nightmare fuel.

A refreshing story. Well written and truly binge worthy. The protagonist makes quite some mistakes, but it makes him seem more human in my eyes (Not to mention that it was obvious it was going to happen based on the tags). The story also gets better the more you continue. Thank you for your hard work Author. Please continue!

While the story is on the slow, to really slow side, it use it really well to set up the places, dynamics and character, it may discourage a lot of people, but there is growth, slow but steady:

from discovering the world, the MC abilities and how he can use them creatively, the MC and his companion getting to know each other and themselves, how the world around is alive and moving and interacting with itself.

The novel is not without its flaws. At times, the protagonist contradicts himself, is being naive rather than kind and comes of as spineless rather than a leader in the making. The pacing is typically okay, but I often find it is too slow. On some occasions it feels as if the writing is just trying to buy extra time for no good reason. BUT, The writing is generally good; the plot makes sense; Motives and goals are consistent with minimal risk of getting lost, and the story is fairly refressing. The consept itself is not for everyone, but if it is you are going to have a grand time!
