The other world in which this story takes place in. It is a world of magic and fantasy, where goddesses and monarchies still rule.
A country close to the sea. Located on the eastern continent, it was founded by the first king of Birain, Ionian Laertes Raviseul through the divine provenance of the goddess, Tulilith. The rulers of this land were determined, for the most part, by reborn souls, either as a reincarnation of a previous ruler or someone with equal divine ordainment.
The goddess of reincarnation! It is unclear whether she encompasses this role in all realities, but it is clear she transmigrates people from Earth to Iraloné with blessings. Those reborn by her hand are born with special 'clear blue eyes'.
She is the goddess celebrated in the kingdom of Birain.
The main character. Formerly known as Hokusai Kasumi, she was reborn due to the actions of a goddess.
She is currently 10 years old as of the current chapters of the story. Penelope was named and blessed by Tulilith, thereby giving her clear blue eyes similar to the goddess. She gained a special power: anything she draws becomes real.
The rightful heir to the throne of Birain, before the coup that killed his father and several members of his family.
He is a very serious boy with a very antagonistic face; it isn't odd to see him frowning or outright glaring, even if his thoughts are peaceful. His expression is rarely soft or smiling, however he is kind.
He introduced himself as Yule in order to keep Penelope in the dark as to who he was.
He is currently living with his maternal aunt and her partner for the moment.
In Iraloné magic can be classified into three types: Natural Magic, Unnatural Magic and Divine Magic.
Natural Magic is drawn from the very forces of the world itself. The elements of fire, water, earth, wind, for example, are the most based form of Natural Magic. If it can be found in nature without the aid of a process, it is considered natural, thus can be classified as Natural Magic. The spells in this calssification allow the manipulation of natural elements of the world.
The secondary type of magic found in Iraloné. It is magic that has been improved upon, discovered or created through trial and error. It uses Natural Magic as a base. Some may consider Unnatural Magic to be a higher tier of magic. One is not born with Unnatural Magic; it needs to be learned/taught.
A type of Unnatural Magic is moving objects through Telekinesis or Divination to determine weather, or sending messages across vast distances.
They are one subculture of the entire Beastmen race.
They are humanoids with canine heads and instincts, while the rest of their bodies appear and function in a human manner. They have heightened strength, sense of smell and speed. You can find a variety of canine heads ranging from bulldogs to huskies, to even the likes of wolves and jackals.
Cynthia Riverthorn is a female jackal member of the Cyno race.
In Iraloné Divine Magic is accessed by the gods and those who bless them. It is the third classification of magic types found in this world.
It is a magic that can simply come from willing it into being, from using simple imagination, thought and intent. While each mortal caster of this magic type may require a personal focus to cast it, it is actually not required. Few individuals blessed with this magic realize they can just cast it with a single thought. However, it is due to their mortal natures that people in Iraloné end up weakening their abilities because they cannot realize their full potential.
The gods themselves simply use it for any whim they so please, with no limitations.
An example of Divine Magic is healing, as Natural and Unnatural Magic cannot do this. Another example is the ability to create, without needing materials.
Divine magic cannot be learned, nor does it appear naturally in Iraloné.
A cute story.
I love the simple goal for Penelope: Be Happy!
I looked into it a bit, I think the term for Kasumi, the starter soul in the abusive family would be "Parentified Child", since she essentially provided for the family, drew all the ire of the father's drunken outbursts, and was treated as a caretaker for her little sister, not a sibling.
Now, a good chunk of the contents may not be so cute, but on the whole, Penelope is adorable, carrying a sense of wonder borne out of the transition from a life as a shadow to a stroll in a fantasy world.
I rate this story 2 Past Midnight out of 1 Day!
