    Status: ch. 37

I couldn't figure out a way to give a review of the story, so instead I will give my impressions and what I have noticed so far... which may as well be the same as a review...I digress. Moving on.

I really like the setting of the story. It is set on a Medieval/Cultivator kind of world. It takes elements from both and creates a very interesting world. Everything revolves around mana. As of Ch 36, there hasn't been any mention of technology (electricity power items, machines that run on an alternative fuel to mana and so on). Most of the things are crude (when crafted by a non-profession orientated job) and hand made. Which sets the tone for a very harsh world where strength determines how much you can have and the quality of said item.

Society seems to revolve around what profession you choose. You can be a tamer (MC), warrior, mage, archers and so on. They each have their advantages and disadvantages. So far your profession does not determine how powerful you can become but your affinity for that profession does. The more affinity you have for a profession, the quicker you can gain power.

Speaking about power, it is very difficult to acquired. You can't just meditate for 3 months and take over an entire city. Doesn't work that way here. It is a long and tedious process that will only get harder as you go on. I like it.

Characters... this is a tricky one. You can see the inexperience of the author when it comes to character development. But, the author is doing a fantastic job considering it is one of their first stories. You won't be blown away by character development, but you won't be disappointed either. It is only improving with each chapter. Which is very promising.

The MC is very hard working and does not take things for granted. He is caring and has integrity. But he is not a pushover (or as the kids like to say, a simp. I don't even think this is the right way to use the word. Lmao I am getting old). He tries to not rely on his pets for every fight. He understand that he is far weaker than them and rather then leaving it as it is, he strives to become stronger so he won't be a burden to them during a fight.

Other characters are also not there for show or to make the MC look like a god among men. They each have a purpose and their own story that does not revolve around the MC. In fact, MC is merging with their stories instead of these characters merging with MC's story. Nicely done in my opinion. This also applies to his pets. Not all of them, but the important ones have a story too. While we travel with MC, we get to learn about them and start thinking of these creatures as another major character of the story not just a tamed creature that gives fighting power to the MC. In my opinion, one of the best integrations of a tamer profession I have ever read.

That's about it really. The story is taking the "show don't tell approach". Another plus. It is taking its time too. Not too fast not too slow. Just right in my opinion. That way things can develop nicely without any unnecessary time skips or sudden power gains.

The first few chapters (up to about chapter 10 or so) are goin to feel a little off. There were grammar mistakes and pacing was off. Author was still trying to find their flow. But after that, the writing becomes more fluid and have a melody to it. You will still find grammatical mistakes here and there, but a good pacing is much more important to me than grammar. Just my two cents.

Hope you give a try, is a nice take on a tamer story. Also no romance as of ch 36. But he has met the potential love interest. I may be worng. I am not sure lol. No signs of a harem either. The society in this world seems to not be polygamist.
