Synopsis

Garth Daniels is a down on his luck handyman in a quiet little town in the middle of America when our universe is co-opted into a war between an unstoppable race of reality-hopping monsters that feeds on the flesh of living creatures, and a conglomeration of thousands of realities, nested inside each other like a matroska doll.

We're the new layer.

These monsters, the Kipling, can only be defeated in a reality with very specific physics, otherwise they are unstoppable, and so Earth's universe has been assimilated to give us a fighting chance.

Garth must set aside everything that he knows, and think fast to adapt to the new laws of nature if he wants to survive.

Status: chapter 226: the clone wars.

The post 100 chapter is abrupt and difficult to get used to at first, but just like the previous chapters created and built a world that sucked you in, post 100 chapters do well to add to that world and give a different experience alongside the Garth we know and love. The timeskip is important for various reasons which you'll learn as you read along but from start to finish, this story is one of spontaneity, ingenuity and well written comedy. Every witty comment and inside joke makes you laugh and honestly, I may cry when this story goes on hiatus. I recommend you read it. 10/10!!!

The story is great, the cast is great, the world building is also pretty great. One of the better stories here for sure.

For me, the series is great until the time skip reboot. So many loose ends in the story before the reboot makes me not a fan of the the reboot. Not to mention that the series just dumps all the character building and bonds with the reboot, making it hard for the reader since the characters they bonded with are just gone other than MC. I mean, sure the story will probably go back to the original timeline but who knows how long it will take. It's just weird I guess.

Author has given any random enemy more plot armor than the MC. I can’t believe they aren’t intentionally sabotaging their own story. It actually seems like an entertaining story until the author absolutely ruins it.

An interesting story, set in a somewhat familiar version of the apocalypse.  Here Earth is integrated into a multiversal war and the people have to adapt or die. Throw in a pinch of litrpg and a touch of D&D and it makes for an interesting read.

There are a few plot holes and so far a couple of apparently abandoned plot lines, but I'm less than 1/4 of the way through so I can't say for sure.

Overall I would say that this book is deserving of a 4.5-to 5 star rating and hopefully will continue to be interesting.

The story is unpredictable and may feel like nothing is planned in advance, events you never expected happening from time to time, or MC making decisions without thinking a lot about the consequences.

With this story, I feel like the author tried to write about many things, not staying too focused on one more than a few chapters, so it's a very big surprise to me that I never lost my interest when reading it. It is well written, funny, and the different characters are enjoyable. There is still a lot of background story that could be explored in future chapters. We'll have to see where this hiatus leads us to.
