I have to admit I'm not at all familiar with Chinese/Chinese-inspired literature, nor can I say I have much of an interest in it. Nevertheless, Fairemont managed to craft a very engaging story about martial arts and fighting. If you are invested in martial artists, political shenanigans, and a rich MC sneaking off from her father's supervision alongside her lovable maid, you'll find some enjoyment here!
I have to agree with the comments on chapter 1 saying that the first half drags on a bit, and that the pacing overall is pretty slow. However, the author manages to create expectations and deliver them properly through her build-ups. The fights are very snappy with a lot of fun techniques, and there is even a glossary, for people like me, who might have trouble remembering certain Chinese words or names. (As long as it does not become a crutch, it's a fantastic addition.) Overall, a very strong start and I'm eager to read more.
