Synopsis

This wasn't the first time my girlfriend talked me into doing something crazy, just to help her win a bet with her twin sister. And it wasn't the first time one of their little challenges or competitions messed up my entire weekend.
But it WAS the first time my girlfriend claimed to have magical powers. And when she told me she wanted to turn me into a girl for a night, I probably should have taken her a little more seriously...

The book starts out super cute, with character that have both flaws and their good parts. But after a while some issues with the story start to appear. I'll list a few here.

      • Story progression slows down a lot after about 40 chapters.
      • Character flaws disappear, which leaves the characters one-dimensional.
      • There are basically 3 groups in the story. Evil males (and 1 female). Victim males. And good girls and trans*xuals. While I appreciate the book tries to be openminded, it places people in boxes much more than most other stories.
      • After the first few chapters there are hardly any new ideas introduced into the story. Everything new is just a slightly different version of what already happened.

Even with this flaws I did enjoy the book, in particular the first 30 or 40 chapters, so I think it's very much worth the read and a good score.

Fae, but they grew up as mostly-human? So intriguing! I love the ominous nature of the danger that comes from their kin and the love-filled environment that the MC is still experiencing and the s*xiness and the whole dom-sub stuff within the limits of mutual respect and care...

      It's a really cute story!

      +++++++++

Update: Even though the novelity and the conflict between fae and human natures while sort of existing between both worlds wore off after a while, the story remained hecking interesting. I'm usually not someone who gets excited over politics and family dramas. But Faet manages to make even those captivating. Go and read! It's mandatory at this point.

I just can't mention how awesome this saga is! Just a fun slice of life story with lots of magical shenanigans and really crazy occurrences! Originally planned as a shorter transgender story, this story was expanded completely and features other characters that have to deal with gender predicaments as well schemes and machinations between the Fae and the humans!

There is a lot of things that happen in the story but the tone never gets too anxious or dramatic so it is a great thing to read if you just want to disconnect for a bit and have a good time with the wild eventualities the characters have to go through.

There are touched themes like mind control, mind linking, age reversal and so forth so there is a lot to find, even when the tone of the story can be casual most of the time, there are a lot of things that happen on it. Recommended!

It's ok, nothing too special and not terrible. Overall setting was pretty interesting and the idea was decent. The biggest issue I had was kinda just how the MC would act with the whole "I don't want to hurt anyone" thing.

      Spoiler

For example, woman kills Maeve's (mc's mother) servants, turns her husband into an animal, kidnaps her daughter for over 2 decades, and the first thing Tegan does is tell her mother to go for peace. Later in the story, one of the antagonists is her gf's grandfather whose an all around terrible person. He kidnaps people, transforms them, then sells them into slavery. Despite all this, she keeps saying how she doesn't want to hurt him and ends up just turning him into a human girl and allowing her to have the potential to live a decent life as a human. Maybe I'm just being too harsh on just this one thing and I'm prob a minority in this as well but it was sorta annoying to keep seeing over and over.

I have complicated feelings about this series, which range from love of the setting, the obviously deep thoughts that went into the characters and the world, to a a somewhat vaguely sad feeling regarding where the characters end up. A good portion of this review will likely be in spoiler territory so I will try my best to give my unspoilered feedback first before diving into the nitty-gritty.

First: the first part of this series is phenomenal, I think it does a fantastic job of capturing the reader and bringing them into the story. That characters have depth and we can really see them react in their own ways to different events. One of my highest praises for this series is that it absolutely NAILS the genre change in a believable, thoughtful way. More than that, it is clear that a lot of thought went into the world building and political landscape of the world.

The second part of the story is where I start to run into a few issues with the story. There are times where the characterisation falters, and characters start to feel a little like tissue paper. Namely, they lose their personalities and it is unclear what their arc is in the story. I do understand that the narrative at this point was not focused on them, but as events unfold, it seems like the story would be more satisfying if they were more independent and clearly had agency, instead of kind of going along with everything as it happened.

      Spoiler

to speak more on that, it felt like the twins slowly became two flavours of the same character. I'm not entirely sure how intentional that was, but it made me sad to see the two of them sort of lose their individuality. While I'm not a huge fan of fighting in stories, I do think that Kelly and Kiera should have not been completely on board with each other in almost every way. Especially when pertaining to the polyam situation that develops through the second book. My main wish was that we could see Keira work through the issues she had with losing Amy, more than just she starts to cuddle (and more) with Tegan and feels better because Tegan couldn't get hurt like that.

      Spoiler

I really liked the handling of the storyline with Sue and Elise, but I really would have liked to see more parallels drawn between Tegan's mother (s). As I think both of them exert similar forces in their daughters life, but it would be hard to show through Tegan's eyes as she is a little naïve at times and unaware of how she is being influenced.

Stories with an unreliable narrator can be a little difficult sometimes, because without the presence of other POV characters, it can be sometimes hard to determine the biases of the character and separate that from the author. I would love to know more about what was planned, and what kind of just happened as a result of the characters while writing the last book in particular.

I've been trying to figure out a way to wrap this review up in a concise and coherent way, as well as to offer what I feel is an even-handed and thoughtful recommendation of this series. At the end of the day, this series is phenomenal, and I would certainly say that with only minor polishing, it could be one of my favourite series I've read in the past few years. The world building and obvious love in the crafting of this story is easy for anyone to see, and I will give my highest recommendation for this series to anyone interested in the central concept. I only have minor caveats for that recommendation regarding my criticisms, however I would absolutely recommend this story to a friend.

Thank you for writing this story, and I look forward to reading more of your work, PurpleCatGirl!

      Love it!

The story focusses a lot on how the MC deals with the gender change and her feelings etc. Also plenty of action in there too :)

The MC and her GF have some very s*xy dom-sub play going on, but the smut tag should be changed for ecchi. There were like three out of the fifty chapters that had s*xual content in them and none were explicit.

So don't read if you are looking for porn, but there is absolutely no other reason not to read it!

So I just read this in 3 days... And yes you should too, would give a little stabb to MC for op'ness but she is actually likeable so it'd be only skin deep.

Just spent the better part of the week binge-reading this. While some resolutions seemed a little sudden or anticlimactic this is still one of the best things I have read in a while. Really enjoy your work.

So I like this story its pretty good but I have one problem with it but it's mostly a technicality. The author does a great job of showing the struggle of living in a body that doesn't feel like it's your own. It's got some pretty standard fluffy romance that you can relax while reading.

      The technicality:

      Spoiler

Saying Tegan is transgender is like saying she is transhuman. Tegan was never human (this was said in the story btw) so it's impossible to be transhuman.

It's a minor issue but it irked me enough to warrant talking about.
