The fall of civilization didn't happen because of the nukes that dropped, as they were used in a means of slowing it down. The end of the species we knew it came from our own hands, but no knows what year it exactly happened. From the beginning mankind has kept records of its past, but a new record has been found. Promising to change the new world as they know it.
