Characters
Abigail

Devilla's personal maid. She's a lesser succubus - in other words, a succubus whose ancestors long ago moved to the mortal plane.

She is a self-professed masochist, and a sadist too. She hasn't opened up about either to Devilla, just yet, though.

She wears a maid outfit, with a short skirt, that's been altered to allow for wings and a tail. She has golden blonde hair, cut right above the shoulder, with a touch of curl at the end. Like all succubi, her eyes are pure black.

Abigail has expressed heavy suspicion at Devilla's change in attitude. Devilla has promised to tell her the truth - but not until after her current mission.

Devilla Satanne

The freshly coronated demon queen. Because she inherited absolute power from her mother at at a mere thirteen hours old, she grew up to be absolutely spoiled. Without any sort of parental figure to keep her in check, she did more or less did whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted, often at the cost of her people. She is the reason her people have made no progress for the last twenty one years. She was originally destined to either die, or get enslaved, at the hands of the heroine, who would have joined hands with Devilla's own ten demon generals in order to defeat her.

Fortunately for her, she flubbed the Rite of Insight - meant to give access to a repository of knowledge held by past demon queens - and ended up recovering memories of her past life, as Jacob Divington. This not only affected her as a person, but gave her true insight into the world - namely, she realized that this was the world of Tower Conquest, a lesbian porn game Jacob had played to completion. In the game, the demon queen was either killed or enslaved, depending on the heroine's choices. In other words, Devilla herself was doomed to either die or be enslaved if she kept things up.

Thankfully making a change is hardly a problem for her, as she is now. Although she still identifies as Devilla - and as a woman - her personality has undeniably changed due to the recovery of past memories. Still, she would say that she remains the same person deep down inside. It's not as if Devilla ever actually enjoyed causing others pain, after all - it's simply that she thought herself special, above the petty problems of the common person. Memories of being a regular person, with a proper upbringing, now tell her that she's no more special than anyone else. She no longer sees herself as above their pain, and she no longer sees her problems as more important than anyone else's.

If you asked her whether she sees herself as Devilla or Jacob, she'd tell you it's not really a choice - she sees herself as a single person who's simply experienced two different lives. Jacob became Devilla, who recovered memories of being Jacob. That's all there is to it.

Since her people are on the brink of extinction, and everyone hates her, she's actually fine with the heroine winning and bringing peace between humans and demons - but she'd rather it not involve her defeat. She intends to lead her people right up until the heroine shows up, so that they'll have a reason to join forces and fight against her. She also intends to run away before the final battle.

She's very smart, but in some ways extremely dense. She knows that she's done bad, so she expects people to hate her, but it has yet to occur to her that doing good might cause people to like her instead. Only time will tell us how this oversight will affect her plans.

Physically, Devilla looks almost indistinguishable from a human. She is most easily distinguished by her naturally charcoal nails, mid back length straight white hair, and her purple eyes.

Devilla is capable of manifesting black wings, which she describes as having feathers as dark as the void. She generally prefers to wear clothes that show her body off, in typical of demon fashion - though she no longer minds more covering, when the situation calls for it. She does generally insist on going backless, however, for the sake of her wings.

Devilla is 5'4, but wears three inch heels to look taller.

The upper limits of her magic capacity, durability, and physical strength are currently unknown - but it didn't do Devilla any good in Tower Conquest, and she doesn't see it doing her any good now.

Devilla generally uses the name "Eena" when traveling incognito.

Jacob Divington
Devilla Satanne's past life. He was a bag boy, as well as a porn enthusiast. He is known to have enjoyed lesbian porn, as well as feminization stories.

Jacob died by driving off a bridge, after getting called into work on his day off - he fell asleep at the wheel, due to the fact that he'd been playing Tower Conquest for 17 hours straight.

He was 19, at the time, and had vague plans of moving out of attending college.

Lucy

The heroine. Chosen by the angels themselves, she gains strength with every demon she defeats.  In the original timeline, as detailed in Tower Conquest, she turned the ten demon generals against Devilla, who she  would go on to either kill or enslave.

Yara - General of the 10th Floor

The Mistress of Agriculture. A goblin. She's in charge of keeping the tower fed.

Yara is known to be blunt, and to hate politics - though she still participates in them to some extent, doing the occasional favor for other Generals.

Araina - General of the 20th Floor

The arachne spymaster. Devilla pressured her into taking the job of General. Her main duty - pre-rite - was using her control over spiders to spy on the populace, and listen to what they said about Devilla. Devilla would receive reports once a week. (She never punished the people who talked bad about her. Mostly just sat in her room reading and brooding and then burning the messages while complaining to herself about how people saw her.)

Mifa - General of the 40th Floor

The general of floor 40; a harpy, or bird woman. She is theoretically in charge of reconnaissance, which is supposed to be carried out with help from her fellow harpies - but since the majority of the world outside the tower is enemy territory, she generally chooses not to risk her people on it. As a result, the maps in the tower are severely out of date.

Her legs shift into those of a hawk from the knee down. She has reddish brown wings, instead of arms. She almost never wears clothes.

She has a sharp eye, a sharp mind, and a blunt tongue. She will tell you exactly what she thinks, unless she has a reason not to.

Mifa originally hated Devilla, thinking of as lazy and spoiled. She even went so far as to claim one might get feather rot from sleeping with Devilla. The fact that Mifa recently changed her mind and slept with Devilla anyway may indicate that Mifa has noticed a change.

She's shown to love suspension play in Tower Conquest, but her true favorite thing is sex in mid air. She prefers to top, but is happy to battle for it.

Jacob found Mifa's territory especially challenging when playing Tower Conquest - instead of just fighting through a narrow corridor, you had to run up endless stairs while guarding against divebombing harpies.

Sallina - General of the 70th Floor

Nivera's adoptive "aunt" and Devilla's former tutor. Little is known about her, other than that.

She has been described as a lamia with red scales.

Sylvanna - General of the 90th Floor

A hedonistic slime girl, who also happens to be something of a genius. She's able to split her body into many copies, all of which can act independently (albeit with reduced intelligence.) Small copies of her are devoted to eating, sleeping, and sleeping around (among other things) at any given moment. The majority of her, however, works as the tower administrator.

She has a rather bad relationship with Devilla, to put it lightly.

Sylvanna's people - the slime girls - were all turned to stone during a ritual where they melded together by the prior Heroine. Sylvanna was left alive as a messenger to draw out Devilla's mother - which succeeded. Devilla's mother died in the ensuing battle.

Devilla (age 7) forced her into the role of General (when she was about 16) by threatening to not de-petrify Sylvanna's people. (It was a bluff, but Sylvanna didn't know that.) Sylvanna has never forgiven her for it, and has never missed a chance to abuse and belittle Devilla in the time since.

Location
Dimona Tower

The last stronghold of demonkind. Although the land around it once thrived, the area was made into wasteland by a past heroine's holy magic. Essentially every demon alive lives within this massive structure. From Devilla's admittedly limited exploration, it seems that the majority of floors hold the equivalent of a large town, or perhaps even a small city, within them. That includes shops, houses, food stalls, and more.

Heaven

Where the angels live. Little is known about it.

Hell

Where true demons come from. Nothing else is currently known about it.

The Mortal Realm
Where our story takes place. The actual name of the planet has yet to be revealed.
Items
The Enslavement Collar
A collar used by Lucy in Tower Conquest. It stripped (game) Devilla of her powers, and forced her to obey (game) Lucy's commands.
The Indestructible Sword

A holy item, brought down from heaven by Luci. Just as it says on the tin, it's a sword that can not be bent, broken, or damaged in any way. It was lost during the last war.

Miscellaneous
Angels

Literally angels, left behind by the goddess when she went on a journey. It is possible for angels to fall from grace, descending to the mortal realm. Doing so supposedly costs them a great deal of power, but allows them to more directly influence the mortal world.

The only one known to have done this is Devilla’s ancestor, Luci.

The Church

A human organization. Nothing has really been revealed about it so far, other than that they consider all sapient life-forms, besides humans, to be demons.

Demons

Demons actually come in a variety of different species – rabbit girls, arachne, goblins, werecreatures, harpies and more all fall under this banner. Their common traits include: not being human and all being girls. Culturally speaking, they tend to be fairly casual about sex, and their fashion trends toward showing off their bodies.

Although there are "true demons" among them, most of those under this banner would have been called “monster girls” in the past. Unfortunately the church now designates all sapient life, other than humans, as “demons,” and after some centuries it has come into common use among the monster girls themselves.

The demons are always led by a demon queen, who is always a direct descendent of Luci.

The Demon Queen

The leader of the demons. The demon queen is always a direct descendant of Luci. The current demon queen is Devilla Satanne.

The Goddess

The goddess of Devilla‘s new world. The only thing that’s been revealed about her is that she supposedly left on a journey a long time ago, before the war between demons and humans had even begun.

The Heroine

A girl chosen by the angels, and gifted the ability to gain strength from each demon she defeats. The current heroine is Lucy.

Humans

Little is known about the humans of this world, other than that they are capable of having orange eyes.

Luci

Devilla’s ancestor. She was an angel who lived in ancient times, when the conflict between demons and humans was still young. We've only heard the demon side of things, but supposedly - long after the goddess left on a journey - Luci's sister angels took sides in the conflict between humans and demons, declaring that the goddess desired for humanity to be victorious. They then created the heroine, to help lead humans to victory against the demons.

This angered Luci, who believed that humans and demons were equal in the goddess's eyes. Unable to turn her sisters from their chosen path, she chose instead to fall from grace and enter the mortal realm herself. From there, she gathered the monster girls under her banner. Her goal was not necessarily to lead them into victory over humanity, however, but rather to act as a counterbalance to the other angels' influence. Since the angels and their worshippers were leading the human charge, she agreed to offer her leadership to the demons, who respected her great power - but she refused to directly fight against the human forces. She, and her future descendants, would fight only against the heroine herself, and only after the heroine had filled herself with so much of the angels' tainted power as to be beyond mortal means to handle.

Luci supposedly lost much of her power during the fall, but in return gained the ability to more directly affect the human world.

Despite the similarity in names, she has no known connection to Lucy, the current heroine.

Magic

Magic can be largely divided into two categories. On the one hand we have holy magic, which requires an incantation. Nothing else about it has been revealed so far. On the other hand we have arcane magic, which requires no incantation. It can be cast by anyone, requiring only that the user have a solid image image in their head. It supposedly works better if you have a good grasp of the process involved in what you’re trying to accomplish.

Arcane magic relies on one’s magic capacity, which varies from person to person.

The Rite of Insight

“Aloosh verocka devort magnina foruus. Groona, sellis rone essel dorma  dorfus noga gillar, divi woon yuul queel maka yota walla ipsiin ritell. Woon deen maka oon det devort ackello.”

A piece of holy magic meant to be cast by demon princesses upon their ascension to demon queen. It grants them access to an archive of knowledge, passed down from demon queen to demon queen. Even messing up a single word can change the effects. In Devilla's case, she misread the final word as "ackella" and ended up recovering memories of her past life, instead. To make matters worse, recasting it hasn't worked.

It is worth noting that Devilla in particular put off the majority of her learning, thinking that she would gain everything she needed from the spell.

Tower Conquest

The name of a porn game Devilla played in her last life, as Jacob Divington. It also seems to be the setting for Devilla's current world. In it, a heroine named Lucy had to fight her way up a hundred and one towers, defeating ten demon generals and turning them against the wicked demon queen - Devilla Satanne. On the hundred and first floor Lucy fought the Devilla herself, either killing or enslaving the queen, based on the player's choices. Actually getting Devilla to submit involved keeping her health bar in the red for a grueling ten minutes, not letting her die and negating her attempts to heal herself.

Jacob did win the game before dying - but only by skipping 80% of the dialogue, using save points so that the sex scenes could be revisited, and playing for seventeen hours straight.

True Demons

An honest to goodness demon from hell. Can be further divided into “greater” demons, who live in hell, and “lesser” demons, who are descended from greater demons that long ago settled down in the mortal realm.

Fun story with a main character who cannot stop blaming herself for everything. If the premise in the description sounds good, you'll probably enjoy reading this story. It's also one of the more consistent stories on here - every single Wednesday there's either a new chapter or a post from the author announcing a delay. Reading this story is solidly part of my routine at this point.

The characters, particularly the MC, make no sense whatsoever. It's just a random series of weird events mishmashed together for no reason, with no regard for established lore or character personalities.

After gaining Jacob's memories, where it's explicitly stated that she's still more Devilla than Jacob, and deciding to maintain the status quo of her people hating her and the generals betraying her so that the Heroine can lead her people to integrate with humans in peace, she does literally everything *except* that. She immediately and completely fails to even pretend to try to be the same spoiled brat everyone hates, agrees to things neither Jacob nor Devilla nor a demon queen ever would, and just lets one of the generals and their forces walk all over her for literally no reason and with no thought process behind it.

I'm only talking about content up to around chapter 4 or 5 so I don't think are any spoilers for the story - the first arc past the prologue has barely begun - but I'll hide the rest of my review so you can make your own choice to read it or not.

    Spoiler
The MC randomly decides to leave the tower on her own, infiltrate human lands, and find an ocean in order to magically extract enough salt for the millions of demons spread throughout the 90+ towns of the tower because she wants to eat potato chips... even though the demons have literally never heard of potatoes, apparently, so why even go get the salt? And why specifically enough salt to distribute throughout the whole tower, when her plan is literally to make sure everyone keeps hating her? The demons have been without salt for like 100 years but know what it is, they would be super grateful if their queen took on the risk and effort of personally harvesting several tonnes of the stuff for them!
---paragraph separator because formatting inside the spoiler is weird---
In order to find an ocean, she goes to the harpy general for a map, as the harpies are the demon army's scouts. The MC again forgets she's supposed to be pretending she's still a hateful brat so her generals continue to hate her, and acts like a mostly polite and reasonable person. The general obviously gets suspicious as Devilla actually makes a reciprocal deal rather than simply ordering her to hand over a map - as a queen would do, never mind a spoiled brat princess - and then also asks for s*x despite hating her??? And with no explanation or thought process given, the MC just agrees??? And then lets the general's minions restrain her so the general can s*xually dominate her...? What? WHY?! And then they go about things like nothing happened, obviously.
---paragraph separator because formatting inside the spoiler is weird---
After collecting some salt and seafood from the ocean, there's some thunder and lightning so, the demon queen - explicitly set up as the single most powerful non-Angel being in the world - is obviously grounded and must take shelter in a human village. It's mentioned several times that cold temperatures don't affect her and yet a little bit of rain is too much? She's even surprised that the human village has shut all their windows due to the storm, indicating how pathetically weak the storm really is.
---paragraph separator because formatting inside the spoiler is weird---
She then decides to help the villagers with a wolf problem in exchange for potatoes - remember, not only do demons not have salt they've literally never even heard of potatoes so even with salt how was she going to make potato chips without conveniently visiting this human village???? - and is offered a lamp because it's dark. She initially declines and even explains she has night vision so a lamp will actually be bad, then proceeds to stand around awkwardly and wait for someone to go fetch a lamp for her for literally no reason - no thought process is given for this. The lamp is supposedly quite expensive and some random woman was genuinely worried about her promise to pay back the owner on behalf of the MC if it got damaged or lost, so obviously the MC then just dumps it on the ground outside on her way out of the village anyway.
I'm not saying that visiting that village and helping them in exchange for potatoes is inherently bad.

The writing is good, the setting could have been really interesting, I just wish there had been an attempt to actually set things up in a way that makes sense, rather than ripping up and throwing out any established setting or character personality every 5 minutes when the author has a new, nonsensical whim for the plot.

I came not expecting much, but I discovered a delightful little story.

Sometimes you want to see people face difficult problems that aren't insurmountable. So far, that's the vibe I'm getting from this.

There are real obstacles, but not an abundance of suffering or angst. You can relate to the characters, and they actually act like people (and this is depressingly uncommon). It ultimately looks like a feel-good story rather than gritty realism, which suits my tastes just fine.

    Tl:dr?

Pros - Fun characters, interesting narrative, hints of a setting that's more complex than you might suspect at first.

Cons - A few scenes seem a bit rushed, and the adult scenes are a little too frequent in earlier chapters, but this could just be personal preference.

Hoping to see more of this.

An enthralling world and cast of characters that I wish I could recommend more highly. I was hooked right from the start, dragged into Devilla's struggles, her relationships, the honestly rather well-written smut... And dragged a bit deeper, going to that random village. Meeting some new characters, learning about the world. Again and again, new characters, new things, new lore, more things to intrigue me. Lucy's positivity and optimism are truly heroic and make me adore her, and she possesses a surprising depth of thinking to boot.

But more recently, and I mean no disrespect to the author, there's been a slight shift in focus. Away from Devilla for a while, away from her issues and onto other characters. The addition of a teleportation ability, too, means that there's little choice for Devilla to make at times: she has her cake and eats it too. Hehe.

This is fine, mostly. As the cast comes together, some characters are consistently taking the spotlight in a way that damages the tone, in my opinion:

    Spoiler

When Lucy and Devilla go to the tower together, she has a brilliant introduction. A perfect one, nearly. And then we spend two chapters talking about how Chloe is amazing, Chloe does this, Chloe does that, Chloe beats the hero, ect ect. She takes center stage so hard that I genuinely forgot that this was the first interaction Lucy had with these characters, and the Chloe v Lucy fight barely makes sense to begin with.

    [collapse]

All in all, I enjoy this story greatly, but there's some flaws and odd choices of focus. Absolutely something I'd suggest reading, but I've found my enjoyment waning lately.
