Y'know what this story reminds me of? Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow!
Their DNA is the same: Both are set in a steampunk/dieselpunk alternate history where many things straight out of pulp novels are common, such as MECHANICAL WOMEN and GIANT ROBOT SPIDERS. Both revolve around a mystery quest to unmask a hidden mad scientist who is sending all manner of gruesome death machines after our protagonists. Both are action-packed romps that are a bit weak on the character side of things, slightly too enamored with their own spectacle to settle down and sufficiently develop the cast. And both are heckin' entertaining and fun!
This is very much a story where the author is finding their writing-legs as it progresses, but the minor flaws never distract overmuch from the compelling tale. Breezy escapist jaunt is my favorite kind of fiction, and I'm very much looking forward to reading the sequel. Nicely done!

Good! Really interesting, and the world-building is pretty classic fantasy, it's homey and nice
