Synopsis

Gamer. Martial Arts enthusiast. Writer. Eric Breeden is these things and a few more, but one thing he is not is a risk-taker. But when he is pulled from his dark apartment in Fairbanks, Alaska, and transported to the world of Ahya by a powerful mage, he soon realizes that risk-taking might just have to become his thing. That is if he wants to survive and make it back home.

Thrust into a world he doesn’t understand and introduced to skills and a system of combat that is foreign, he tries his best to get his feet under him and get to work. Meeting the stranger who pulled him here goes about as well as can be expected, but he does at least learn his purpose. Can he fulfill it, or will he fall like so many others, to be overtaken by those who come after?

Read Chronicles of a New World for a new perspective on the world of Ahya, and to see what happens when the burden of destiny is thrust upon the shoulders of a chronic under-achiever.

Chapter Upload Schedule is Mon-Fri @10:00 EST (Eastern Standard Time)

I wanted to like this novel. I really did. This book has no technical issues and a vast world to explore. Unfortunately author decided to fill it with far to many characters from his other works practically reducing the unfortunately MC to a role of a self propelled recording machine who is passively watching interactions between strangers.

From the very beginning of the novel MC is surrounded by many powerful characters who readers are supposed to know and like. Unfortunately this is my first novel of this author and I cant help to really hate almost all of them. Mysterious, overpowered evil and arrogant p***s who are constantly bullying our weak and confused MC who was literally kidnapped to this world against his will.

I understand that people who read other novels can relate to and maybe even like this characters  but I am really tired of them after just 30 chapters.

What I like most about this series is storytelling. Eric, the main character, has flaws and his decision-making is not perfect. Of course, he remains victorious, as in a good fairytale, but the fact that he progresses both physically and mentally is what makes it enjoyable.

Another thing is that sometimes it is difficult to understand where will the plot turn and go. There are some sudden twists as well as resolutions of subplots that have started chapters ago. It doesn't mean the author keeps track of every thing he writes, though. The game and levelling systems are pretty much absent and appear inconsistently, which is a pity. But I'm here mostly for the plot.

And regarding the plot, there are almost no logical errors or events that couldn't be explained. This world has its own rules, structure and magic system, as well as lore. There may be some inconsistences, but no one's perfect, right?

And this is another story that takes place on the world of Ahya. I don't know how it feels when you read it for the first time, but as a someone who has been following this universe for a while, I like recalling some characters' names and how they have changed over the in-story years.

Maybe reading this story first and Tomes afterwards will be an interesting experience as well. Anyway, this is a very solid heartfelt story with some recurring characters from the past books. I like it. :D

In the first few paragraphs- the first few sentences even, a story must plead its case to the reader. It has to convince someone that turning the page and giving up a precious moment of their time will be worth the investment. Chronicles of a New World  just doesn't do that. Not for me. It dumps the main character, Eric in a forest with little description, no interest-grabbing setpiece, and an unstimulating narrative. Then it asks us to watch him mull over a vague initial quest description and generic class choices while it tells us about his interests directly. It's tiring. Unfortunately, this is an adjective that I have to use to describe much of the 11 chapters I read.

The text bogs itself down with empty or unnecessary words, often dulling the impact of ideas and sensory information. It's hard to immerse myself in anything when I have to chew through the literary equivalent of bubble wrap. This is compounded by scene crafting that fails to land. I was going to say that it was a scene logic problem; that events happen in a manner that seems either inconsistent or nonsensicle, but that's only partially true.

Little things like Eric not noticing that he's barefoot as soon as he takes first step in a wooded area likely full of prickly, crawly things, or Emma, a kindly healer that picks Eric up on the side of the road, being startled by the sight of his unhidden sword mid-meeting further strained my immersion and put me on edge. It had me looking for further hiccups and left me engaging the story as an editor rather than a reader.

By the time Eric and Emma went through the cliche, but usually acceptable, meet-cute beats, I felt a strong urge to abandon the story right then and there. But, I soldiered on, only to be rewarded with more of the same.

Honestly speaking, what turned me off of Chronicles of a New World was several consistent style and mechanical issues that I'd normally give a pass on their own, and it's frustrating to think about, let alone write a coherent, helpful review.

C_P_ Tuck is a good writer. You can tell that Ahya is an expansive, well thought out world, the text is clear and easily parsable, and the story seemed to tease me with promises of a greater plot or at least some spectacle on the horizon if I just kept treading water. But I couldn't do it. I don't want to rate the story so poorly, it needs heavy editing, but that's all it needs. If everything happened exactly as it happened only "painted" in more proverbial colors with a finer brush, I would thoroughly enjoy this story. But boosting the rating due to what it could be would be a massive breach of integrity.
