Synopsis

[Volume 1] Rosalie Edgeworth: the queen bee of Lassen Academy and Janet Fleming’s two-faced nemesis. Why does the school seem to revolve around Rosalie? How can Prince Blaise not see her for the bitch she really is? And why won’t the Prince even listen to Janet’s side of it? In the aftermath of Rosalie’s latest schemes, Janet finds the answer in unexpected allies: ghost-clones of herself, a weird little-sister shop owner, a bespectacled folklore otaku, a sluggard knight, three ghost-obsessed girls, and two former saintess candidates, among others. Meeting these people leads Janet to the truth about Rosalie’s identity and a dangerous conspiracy surrounding her.

[Volume 2] Not only has a fake been impersonating Rosalie Edgeworth and controlling the Prince and Classroom 1-3C with rumors, sex, and spells: she plans to further ruin Janet’s reputation during the title confirmation with the Prince’s help. To foil their plans, Janet and her allies keep a low profile at school and drum up a ruckus of derring-do that overtakes her bad reputation but at an even steeper price. Now at an impasse, Janet reaches out to her marquess father, her duke cousin, and even the Queen for help. After considering Janet’s account of that night, the Queen knows a way for Janet to use her weakness to her advantage, but will Janet go through with it?

Okay, let me give you all the reasons why you should read this story, besides the fact that the author is a friend and mentor of mine. I think the quality of the story stands on its own, and the storyline is easy to follow. Though the various merits of the story are best shown by reading the story yourself, I will list the reasons why I enjoyed this story and why I think others will enjoy it as well. It's a very cohesive storyline that has connecting scenes that are very visual in nature and have beautiful imagery that are painted by sensual words and prose that make it easy to imagine a movie projector in one's head. The writing style flows smoothly and ripples like water, clear and translucent and I would argue quite life-sustaining (brain food for the mind). I hope that, if you just give one chapter of this a try, you will be drawn in and lured into the world and characters that comprise of Villainess, Retry's! Story. It's a wonderful narrative that has the elements and tropes of the Villainess genre (which I'm not too familiar with, but after having discussions with the author and reading other comments on the story, I'm sure that people enjoy it as much as I do and find something unique and inspiring on the author's take of the villainess genre!). I haven't read many villainess manga/webnovels/manhua except this one, though I have to say that this story was my good introductory course to such a theme and storyline, and I might have to see what other Villainess stories are around on Scribblehub and maybe leave a review for those as well. Though honestly, this humble review doesn't convey how much I love this story, and it might be to your taste as well! Of course, all this gushing praise must give you high expectations for the work, and I don't believe it will disappoint, but I honestly gush about works and stories that I have a personal connection to and have really impacted me, whether that's through the prose or characters or world or whatever.

The development progresses at a nice pace and the scenes and storylines are logical and cohesive, as mentioned before. The author also occasionally edits and re-edits some things to make more cohesive sense in the end or some little flourishing detail that connects to other parts more smoothly. It still keeps the same material as before, though I find the story is as good on the reread as it was on the first read as well, plus the little embellishments added along the way that are like little Easter Eggs for those who keep a close watch on the rewrites and story itself. Please, give Villainess Retry! A read if you have time to spare--the chapters are quick to read and easy on the eyes. Also, check out the glossary that the author has made as well to see adorable portraits of the characters in question!

(Updated Due to Volume 1 completions)
Villainess, Retry! Is really good. It's a story I was really happy to find during my random scrolling through tags. Our MC finds Rosalie Edgeworth ghost versions herself, versions of her that died. Mystery's that surround her, her deceased mum, previous saints, the prince and bunch of other stuff. A very nice mix of mystery, intrigue and the supernatural. Thankfully it never gets confusing, (Author good job), no matter how many new layers are revealed the core mystery is consistent, just more danger is now known.I'm not going to talk much about the story because it is mystery. But I really enjoy the MC and her support cast, and of course herselves.

Also the chapter length increases as the story progresses. At early points chapters are about 2000ishs, but by the time we reach V4 chapters are 5000+. So nice hearty meals to consume.

    (Update)
So Volume 1 is now done and opinions haven't really changed (well my initial review wasn't far off chapter wise, only like 6 chapters).
    Very minor spoilers below.

HOWEVER! I'm excited for Volume 2. A lot of (V4) & (V5) of volume 1 was the resolution to some earlier mysterious. Providing needed answers while adding a few more. Also with MC's new power-up, and a better idea of the villains and allies. There's a lot to look forward for in Volume 2.

Excellent development but  the length makes the reader wish there was more.

I love this novel! The pacing, narrative, characters and everything else is just so good. This is a really special-kind of villainess novel and a hidden gem that I recommend to read. Keep it up!
