Synopsis

Vale Bryce is a hunter because her dad wants her to be one. She is a loner because all hunters are. She is a drifter because that is how hunters find their jobs.

Those are lies. Vale is none of those things, the lies the only thing keeping her alive. Until one day she slips up. A single moment of truth ruins it all, awakening a longing for a life not built on things she isn’t.

Vale has to go back to lying. She has to. The Inquisition will kill her if she doesn’t. But the truth is too addictive. Vale is not a vampire. That is a lie. That is how she will die.

Yet maybe... dying happy is better than dying a lie?

I'm not the best reviewer, but this story deserves all of its stars.

Great (near typo-less) gammar, a detailed protagonist, very (for me) attractive writing... just read the blurb and if you think you might enjoy it, read it.

Have no doubts, enjoy the story.

Edit: I will sum my opinion up with this "If there was one web story I think deserves to be sold in book stores, it would be this one."

A review for volume one of Vale is not a vampire.

Within a forest, where tall platforms of leaves blanket the moss-covered floor, rests a short child-like figure with raven-coloured hair strands draped over her face and dressed in leather with an all concealing cloak blanketing them. But no sane man should ever consider them as merely just a girl, or that pretend that it doesn't know that you're staring.

Vale is not a vampire is a captivating story about a bit of self-discovery, much more amounts of deceit and the many creatures that move around in the night. If you're looking for a story where you can forget after a week, then you best switch up your mindset as not everything is as obvious as it seems.

Starting off with the main character, Vale, who is walking contradiction. Different from both her former and current kind, she really has nobody to turn to and it definitely does not bother her the slightest. As an impulsive worry-wart of a sociopath, plans will be made and often half-followed with appropriate consequences befalling Vale. While reading, you can expect many attempts at subtle manipulation and social analysis coming from her but do note she isn't the best nor the most accurate at it.

The world of volume one of Vale is not a vampire is unexpectedly somewhat small but hints at a world much bigger than what we are shown. Many story beats happen within the small, out of the way village of Birnstead and occasionally with the expansive forest that nears it. From a story focused around a hunter, it surprisingly takes the form of a dramatic-al slice-of-life. Volume two does promise many more explanations to the why, what, how and whoms that a reader may ask. With a story that is focused on story events, plot holes are few in between but there are still technically many aspects of the world that could become a plot hole depending on the explanations given in the upcoming volume. Examples such as the intricate magic system and the origins of the beasts that hunt at night haven't exactly been given out in volume one so you might just have to wait and see.

To conclude, Vale is not a vampire is an intriguing story that will definitely confuse while wondering you as you belittle yourself for missing that small foreshadowing sentence. I wholeheartedly recommend that you give Vale a chance and make some mistakes alongside her.

If an imitation tries hard enough to look like the original, could they be passed off as the same?
