Synopsis

A cliché setup. What if I was in his shoes? What would I change? How much would change? On the day that Seol Jihu betrayed his younger sister and stole her car, 'I' took over.

Who was 'I'? Why had I stepped into his shoes? 'I' didn't know. But I knew one thing. Even if I wasn't the real deal... from here on out, I would be Seol Jihu. And I was going to do things my way.

xxx

An indulgent self-insert story into the Second Coming of Gluttony with the usual power trip fantasy stuff. Some things change, others remain the same, and the end game... Well, small ripples become huge waves.

I've had this lying around for a while and kept adding to it for fun here and there, but since it's gotten pretty big, I figured I'd post it for people to read and get some enjoyment out of it if they can.

Enjoy!

    Okay, where should I start?

First, the motivation of the MC. It is more fundamental, it feels blurry at some moment but his goal is to be better, both his situation and dealing with the events soon unfold, than what 'he' read. Of course, since causality, fate and destiny are more apparent forces... they react accordingly to stabilize the trajectory and will make an interesting scenario......

The second is about his stance with the girls. For a while, he hesitates whether to commit with them but the progress should move more because it will be annoying if it just stays the same right?

Third and this is the reason I like this take on the story is that while it is a bit short, the content definitely fills you with quality, that every word is worth it.

This is amazing hands down which doesn't leave much to say other than if u love overpowered characters (like One Punch Man) or training to get OP cliche, you will definitely love this take on the og scotg side story and I 100% recommend it.

    Worth the read!!!

This work is not for everyone since it is another path that the protagonist could have taken either for better or for worse. It is a very complete work and compared to the original I feel that it can be more attractive for fans of the original work due to the aspects that it lets us see of certain characters (which does not happen in the original work)

For new readers: I personally recommend reading the original work first to have a certain idea of the plot of the main story and the changes that this work has compared to the original

    Heads up!

Everything that makes SCOG as SCOG is almost gone. All his emotional challenges, inner turmoil, and near-death battles are coated over with this OP and All-knowing version. I love all those elements of SCOG, and there were times that I was frustrated because of it. Still, this "indulgent self-insert story with the usual power trip fantasy stuff" is freakin' good and well written. I don't really read these kind of fanfics, but this deserves 3 stars for casual reading. Just don't think too hard about it lol.

This is pretty solid. A good 4.5 stars.

It's a fanfic, so the world-building and characters of the original are there. Author emphasizes their original antics and doesn't shy away from it.

The theme here is basically "What if this small thing changed, what would be the difference.". Truth is, there really isn't much difference in the story of this and the original. MC is more overpowered, sure, but same events still happen and the same people are still there. This author really excels at writing this overpowered MC with a goofy but also sometimes serious personality.

If you've read the original fully and liked it a lot, this probably isn't for you. If you're like me though and dropped the original less than a few hundred chappies in it's probably good. A lot of Seol's character isn't the same and is basically a mellowed down version of the original. He had problems and seeked redemption for his sins, here the problems basically never existed in the first place. If you're seeking for a mellowed down version of the original without a lot of the bullsh*t that the MC had, I'd say this is a good alternative to enjoying the story.

Guess you wouldn't expect the story to be as changeable as for example Mushoku Tensei, where there is an open world with lots of characters that didn't get a lot of development. In the original of this though everyone was fleshed out with character arcs so I'm not surprised author couldn't do much difference to the actual story.

As far as self insert wish fulfilment goes, this is pretty good. Grammar and flow are pretty on point. If not for having read the story that it was based on however, I would not have understood what was happening nearly as well. Character and setting introductions may feel detrimentally brief if reading this as a stand-alone novel. Without explaining what choices were made in other timelines, the changes that the self insert makes are of less clear consequence.

Something that factored into my enjoyment but not into my rating: Harem should probably be a tag for this story. It feels like a pretty major aspect at this point.

Alright so, 4.0. Not perfect but good enough by my standards to read it to the end. I think that expectations being set are pretty important when you go into these types of stories and for the sake of that- This is a wish-fulfilment story. There will not be very many conflicts if any at all or at least the tension or possibility of death in a meaningful way is removed. Conflict can still exist however it probably won't and if it does then it will likely be resolved. What can I say about the story? For ease of writing and avoiding unintentional spoilers, everything I think might pertain to the actual story is written in spoilers.

First, let's start with what I think was bad. It feels like after chapter 70 the pace of the story changed. I just got the sense that the author was tying up loose ends. That doesn't mean that they are that's just how it seemed to me. One of the biggest concerns I have for this story is whether or not the story's resolution will be satisfying. I didn't really have an issue with the author's approach to relationships because frankly the original's iteration of relationships was equally frustrating. I think that having a chain of 20 chapters where you basically resolve the impending question of "will they, won't they?" is necessary but it feels unnatural. That said, that's my opinion. I think the power spike thing was kind of unnatural too. And I wonder if the issue with that is that maybe the author tried to give the character a power gain in the same spots that happened in the original. It's a half baked thought but maybe worth consideration. All in all, it's hard for me to have major critiques of the story because it is a wish-fulfilment story. The only thing that I felt was particularly bad was just that everything felt more mechanical. I did think of one other thing while I was writing this though. The author's iteration of Seol Jihu tended to take this "bearer of sins" approach and would beat themselves up over their decisions. I'm not going to criticize it because it's kind of a necessary character trait but overall it just left this feeling of like frustration or I guess I'm just confused by it. Because the guy integrates with Jihu and then all of the sudden, all the flaws commited by Jihu are now his. Although realistically, maybe the reason for that is because he himself is also responsible for them in some capacity. Truthfully I find the whole thing confusing but I did think the self-deprecation thing was slightly annoying. Now, what went right? What did I like? Well, based on how few critiques I had I'd be willing to say most everything. But to be more specific, I've always enjoyed stories with some capacity of creation-like powers involved. Truthfully, I'd prefer like an actual blacksmith over a guy whose power isn't far from a god but I'd be lying if I said I didn't appreciate the unique spin. I liked that the author recognized the need for tension and tried to implement some sort of restriction in some capacity. (I feel as though this mainly seen through the "divine" that is watching him and thus he's restricted in how he can interfere. Namely the banquet. I liked that we're getting to a point where each of the relationships are being resolved in, so far, a satisfactory manner. Stepping outside of the story for a moment, I have to recognize that it is just well written. There's not much to say about it other then I feel as though it was well wrote. Although, the author noted themselves that at a certain point they were going to transition to smaller chapters buttttt frankly I'm not certain that really ever happened? It seemed like the size of the chapters effectively stayed around the same size but  I'm not complaining.
