Characters
Stahlia

Stahlia is the main character of the story. In her past life she was a he by the name of George. George created Stahlia as a character in the closed Beta of the game "New Life" following an invitation from one of the "developers", going by the screen name EvilGod. George was then killed and incarnated into his avatar as a newborn infant.

She is clever, having an above average intelligence that is further augmented with modern knowledge of chemistry, biology, mathematics, and programming due to George's position as a University Student prior to reincarnating. She uses this knowledge in conjunction with her abilities in order to fulfill her goals in her New Life.

Stahlia was designed to have a lithe build, around 160cm tall with a modest albeit small bust. Very dark-red, nearly black hair, with Azure eyes light enough to approach Silver. General features and facial structure is a blend of Asian and German.

As of 1-15 she is ten years old and seems a bit small for her age. Notably, her physical development seems slowed; it took her until she was more than a year old to begin teething. Although she has not noticed it yet, if it were not for her subconscious use of Physical Enhancement Blood Magic she would be significantly weaker than other children her age.

Giogi

Giogi is a couple of months older than Stahlia, having been

born and raised in the same village. He initially judged Stahlia to be weird,

based on his mother’s private opinions of her. However, as he encountered her

more and more frequently he came to develop a childish crush. This crush

manifested into him bullying her repeatedly until she snapped and beat him and

his friends in a fight. Following his defeat, he became determined to become a

man worthy of her and asked her to train him. This dream was crushed when Stahlia became engaged to the

third son of a Count. Giogi now dreams of being becoming a knight so that he

can rise above his station and, at the very least, remain close to Stahlia as

one of her guards.

He has bright red hair and blue eyes. He has a lanky build

Jacqueline

Jacqueline is Stahlia’s confidant, attendant, sworn vassal,

and personal assassin. Taken from her family at an early age, she was then

raised as an agent of the Drakas Kingdom’s Order of shadows. Raised without

affection and having to constantly perform lest she be “cut loose”. She has

come to consider meeting Stahlia to be the single greatest moment of her life,

watching over her antics slowly unwound the brainwashing that had been

festering in her mind, to the point that when Stahlia’s own little sister is

kidnapped by the same order that took Jacqueline, Jacqueline betrays them and

pledged to aid Stahlia however she can. Even if in so doing she winds up

destroying the kingdom she once protected.

Jacqueline’s hair color, eye color, and general physical appearance

Stil

Stil is a monster bonded to Stahlia through her [Monster Handling] Talent.

He is a Hawri that evolved from the common Stawri upon reaching level ten, and being infused with Divine Element aspected mana. He is fiercely loyal to Stahlia, to a degree that goes beyond the bond of her talent, owing to how she painstakingly won his trust.

Stil is very talented in combat, capable of winning fights against monsters that rank above him. this ability is due to the acrobatic tricks Stahlia taught him, such as flips jumps, and maneuvering on only two legs for brief periods.

Stil is normally Stoic, however when he does get emotional, he expresses it by manipulating his neck's feathers. Flaring them out or flattening them to convey various feelings.

Twelve Deities - Spring

Goddess Nymphos, 3rd month.

Spring Faction.
Nymphos is the goddess of new life and female fertility.

The heat of her passion is what fully melts the ice of winter after Virgil

allows it to fall. The march rains follow her emotions as she cavorts with her

husband, the God Merlot. Nymphos’ figure is variable to her mood; she will

portray herself as a young maiden on the cusp of adulthood, a young wife with a

striking figure, a well-endowed older woman, or any number of appearances

depending on her current desires. No matter what shape she takes, Her hair is

always a light blue-green. Her eyes are the color of fresh budding leaves. She

dresses in a pink negligee made of satin.

God Merlot, 4th month. Spring

Faction.
Merlot Is the god of drink and male vigor. His favorite activity

is to indulge in pleasures, and he is never sober. The constant alcohol removes

his inhibitions, and he is perpetually chasing after woman, in particular his

wife Nymphos, whom he often confuses as another woman due to alcohol and her

chape changing nature. Merlot is a middle aged, somewhat rotund man but is

still visibly healthy with well-toned muscles visible just beneath his fat. He

dresses in a red-purple cloth wrapped around his waist line that bears his

chest. His hair is amber like a strong whiskey, and his eyes are the deep brown

of stout beer.

Goddess Gaia, 5th month. Spring

Faction.
Gaia

is goddess of order. the oldest of the current gods and goddesses. Though she

is not related to any of them, she behaves like an older sister or a mother.

She has aligned herself with the Spring Faction in order to undo the chaos

caused by Nymphos and Merlot’s cavorting nature. She completes her job

diligently, and then willing hands over power to the Summer Faction because she

believes the seasons represent a facet of the world’s order. Her form is that

of an attractive but homely woman. Her appearance often causes one to recall

their mother or an important older sibling. Her hair is a simple brown that

matches her eyes. She dresses in an unadorned robe that she wove herself from

the colors of the world itself.

Twelve Deities - Summer

God Dorian, 6th month. Summer

Faction.
Dorian is the god of travel and wanderlust. He journeys about the

world seeking adventure and fortune. Dorian looks kindly on those who would

seek their own path and warms the world to make travel comfortable. He is the

only one of the 12 who is non human, though he is most often depicted in his

human form; a fit man in his late twenties with ash gray hair and yellow eyes,

dressed in travel attire. His true form is that of an Ancient Gold Dragon.

God Andre, 7th month. Summer

Faction.
Andre is the god of crafts and artisans. He is constantly working

at some craft trade or another, producing divine weapons, tools, artworks, or

other manufactured goods. The heat of his forges brings about the hottest

months of the year. Andre is a muscular young man with charcoal black hair and

eyes the orange of a bed of hot coals. He dresses in a simple loin cloth due to

his constant sweat and exertion.

Goddess Bellyes, 8th month.

Summer Faction.
Bellyes is the goddess of war. She is very fond of her little

brother Paxno and tries to create situations for him to act as often as she

can. She is a musclebound amazon of a woman. Who favors strength above all

else, except her little brother. Her hair is a fiery red, and her eyes gleam a

Steely Grey. She dresses always for battle, wearing a form fitting Orichalcum

“Swimsuit” armor plate with a chain skirt made of crimson Hihiirokane.

Twelve Deities - Autumn

God Paxno, 9th month. Autumn

Faction.
Paxno is the god of peace. He is diametrically opposed to his

older sister Bellum and fights against her with all his strength but her power

exceeds his own more often than not making his influence fickle. Pax is a young

boy of about 14. His hair is a sandy blonde, and his eyes are a dark olive

green. He dresses in a white tunic embroidered with gold thread.

Goddess Vitae, 10th month.

Autumn Faction.
Vitae is the goddess of harvest and childbirth, She ushers

in the autumn harvest and looks after mothers in labor. The rate at which

mothers die while giving birth is lower in her month than any other. Vitae is a

woman with a “Child bearing figure”. Her hair is the color of golden wheat ripe

for the harvest and her skin is a dark tan like that of a field hand or farmer.

She Dresses in a simple yet refined dress that would look equally appropriate

walking in a field as in a nobles banquet hall.

God Mortis, 11th month. Autumn

Faction.
Mortis is the god of death, he collects the souls of those who

have received a proper funeral and guides them into the afterlife lest they

endure the coming winter without bodies to protect them. Souls he does not

collect will seek shelter, turning into ghosts or possessing corpses and

objects to raise undead. Mortis is not inherently evil like his position might

suggest, rather, he views his work as a natural necessity. His figure is gaunt

and thin, he is utterly bald having not a single hair on his head. His eyes are

sunken and blind. He dresses in a black robe of a priest, and hides his face

behind a mask depicting a bird (plague doctor) to hide his frightening appearance

so that souls of the deceased do not flee from him.

sister to rebuild a new order in the chaotic void left by her sister’s

machinations. She is the youngest goddess, appearing to be no more than twelve

years old. Her hair is White with a hint of icy blue. Her eyes are dichromatic;

the left is Sunset Orange-Violet while the right is Sunrise Red. She dresses in

a White Shrine Maiden robe with red hems.

God Virgil, 2nd month. Winter

Faction.
Virgil is the god of teachers and sages, he has little interest in

the struggle between the god factions, he only works with Winter because change

begets new knowledge. He is infatuated with Caina who ushers in his desired

change every year. He is an old man with white hair and a wrinkled face. Both

his hair and beard are silver-white. His eyes are ash grey. He dresses in a loose-fitting

toga.

Goddess Antenora, 12th month.

Winter Faction.
Antenora is the goddess of thieves, plotters, and traitors.

She orchestrates the Winter faction to usher in the cold and bring about change

for her younger sister. Antenora is an attractive young woman seemingly in her

mid twenties. Her hair is pure white and her skin is incredibly pale. Her eyes

are an icy blue. She dresses in a White Dress seemingly sewn from snow, with

pale blue embroidery of ornamental snow flakes.

Miscellaneous
Rules of Magic

This is a compendium of the Laws of Magic as they exist in the story. These are not abbreviated like how characters in the story recite them, these are the laws as they would be found in a textbook.

First Law of Magic

Mana can not be created or destroyed, only moved from one vessel to another. The amount of Mana in a system is always a predictable, measurable, and finite quantity.

Second Law of Magic

The mana cost of a spell or other Magical Phenomenon is directly proportional to the Size, Power, and Duration of the spell or Phenomenon. The cost can be reduced by having an affinity for the invoked element, or implementing a compatible catalyst, but can never be reduced entirely.

Third Law of Magic

A Spell Chant consists of three distinct parts: The Invocation, which calls upon the element of the spell. The Body, which describes the magical phenomenon to be produced. And the Keyword, which triggers the execution of the spell.

Fourth Law of Magic

The process by which a spell is formed follows three distinct steps, in order they are: Formulation, wherein the concept of the spell is formed, either by chant or talent. Expulsion, wherein mana is allocated towards the process and expelled from the body. Manifestation, wherein the expelled mana is given an elemental aspect and shaped into the phenomenon.

Fifth Law of Magic

The cost and power of a spell is further affected both positively and negatively by strong emotions, with the color of a given emotion corresponding to the schools of magic that it most greatly affects. E.g. Anger, being a red emotion greatly enhances the power of Red Magic while reducing its cost, but makes Blue Magic less efficient in terms of both power output and mana cost.

Seventh Law of Magic

The activation speed and upkeep efficiency of a spell is directly proportional to the percent concentration of naturally aspected mana that matches the spell's invoked element in the surrounding environment. e.g. Casting Red Magic is easier in a Caldera, while Blue Magic would be highly effective in the middle of the ocean, to the detriment of Green Magic.

Considering the zany title, I was expecting another dumb protagonist along with lots of fourth-wall-breaking going on.

Surprisingly though, this story is quite the reverse. It's well-written with a tone that's well-balanced between slice-of-life portions and more serious portions. There's very little zaniness going on - even during the more slice-of-life moments, the story always has plenty of internal consistency and plausibility. The MC has advantages, but her progress feels steady and a result of her efforts. Also, the MC is presented as being actually above average intelligence both before and after her reincarnation, which is a breath of fresh air from all the overwhelmingly dense protagonists so many stories feature.

I normally end up reading litrpg tagged with "gender bender" hoping for somewhat of a TG focused plot (of which there are many on the site). So on that note - in this case, the MC rapidly adapts to her new gender without much in the way of second thoughts or introspection/identity issues/etc (aside from a brief segment in which she's in shock for a while and then never thinks about it again afterwards) - she could basically have been female from the start and it wouldn't have changed anything imo. I didn't mind though, since the story was quite good and I was happy to keep reading regardless of it not focusing on that niche.

This has a lot of potential!

Was good overall character and world building were very good. Easily able to get immersed and interested. Easy to read as well which is a big plus. Can tell Author has an idea and plan on how to proceed the story.

Unfortunately author dumbs down the MC and has her ignore all prior information she has already confirmed to progress the story and goes completely against prior established behaviour of the character to suit. Normally I would be okay with this depending on the circumstances of the character, but the way author has setup MC in this novel leaves no excuses for her behaviour.

I would have given a 5/5 but when authors ruin the MC by dumbing them down to suit plot it completely turns me off the story. I'll be dropping this one now but encourage others to give it a shot as there is still a lot to enjoy in this series

The series is very good. There are so many pros vs cons. Pros are good world building, power system, foreshadowing, multiple-povs and overall writing. I feel all of these things makes the story more immersive and characters more real. Now, before I talk about cons, I would say personally, I don't like Dark stories. There are only a few I have liked and this one is not one of them. I was liking the story till a certain event happens in the story.
The MC's actions and motivations don't match at all. On one hand, she has such an important mission but on the other hand she is not taking appropriate action. I don't see a sense of urgency in her actions. She feels too complacent for someone who has a lot on the line.  Read the spoiler below to know exactly what I am saying!

Her sister is kidnapped but I don't see the seriousness in her. She has vowed to save her sister. Not only that she also has a fairly decent idea about what she is going through. Let me say this. Her sister is getting brainwashed for christ's sake. Instead of training all day and night to get stronger and go save her sister, she is the same as before but with a goal. I don't see a sense of urgency in her actions. Considering what her sister is going through, is it going to be worth anything to save her sister after years of waiting? She would have been brainwashed by then. What do you think would be the point of saving her?

This entire story is a beautifully dark masterpiece that has many enticing characters combined with a fleshed-out world that has consistent rules and features. While this story could be considered a tragedy, it would definitely be on the lighter side of such, far from being considered "grimdark"

Every important character here has motivations, differing character traits, goals, and flaws. Even most minor characters have something to distinguish themselves from the crowd. The world set up by Phycholor feels like it could be a real place, and not just something created as the story's backdrop. It's a shame that we only get to see it from the eyes of a select few.

What little action this story has, while passable, is a far cry from the quality the rest of the story. The LitRPG elements do feel a bit forced at times, but their lesser importance in the story offsets that minor issue. There was also a (minor) plot hole I found, but that was both an author oversight rather than an issue in the story itself, and it was easily addressed without having to retcon anything. While I could complain more, any other negative criticism I have would simply be nitpicking.

The characters are well written and varied. First off, we have the protagonist Stahlia, a gender-bent isekai protagonist caught up a game made by the gods, who simply wants to live a peaceful life with her new family/friends until a tragedy drives her to revenge. After said tragedy, she closes herself off for a time and changes into a much colder person who only truly cares about the wellbeing of those she knows, and gains a drive to end those in power for what they've done. Unlike many isekai/gender-bent protagonists, we see Stahlia greatly affected by her new world/s*x, and while she does remember her old life, she accepts that there is no going back to it and uses instead uses her old life's memories as a sort of parental figure instead of forgoing it in it's entirety.

We also have Jaqueline, a maid/assassin, who, while initially sent to monitor Stahlia after she shows promise, but several years later proceeds to become a turncoat after being confronted and accepted by Stahlia for who she is and seeing just what the effects of her organization are on families throughout the kingdom. While often stoic, she is shown to care about Stahlia and those close to her, even being willing to sacrifice her well-being for them.

The psychological theming is what makes this story truly shine to me. We see the effects trauma, abuse, and kindness have on how people think and feel. Any character with significant screen time is shown to greatly change based off of their own experiences and the people around them. We see their inner struggles due to the changing first-person perspective. Nobody in this story could really be considered to be a "hero" which fits with the secondary theme of grey morality.

The author is very active in the comments and is open to discussion SO LONG AS PEOPLE ARE RESPECTFUL. In fact, I analyse each chapter, sharing my observations and thoughts, and then often end up getting an equally detailed reply from them.

While it may seem like I'm giving away a lot here, trust me when I say that this story is incredibly deep and thought-provoking. I could write a novella on just my observations, and that is something I rarely see in stories. I also happen to be incredibly stingy with 5-star ratings, so that alone should be an indicator on my opinion on this story's quality.

Edit: The author has added the Tragedy tag. Thank you for that.

TL;DR ~ Good story. Missing the Tragedy tag.

I'm feeling really conflicted about this story as I both love and hate it.

I love it because of the excellent world building and the focus put on character development, just as the author promised in the synopsis. I like the clever usage of modern knowledge in alchemy. I like seeing an MC that can use their head as more than just a fancy decoration. I like seeing the gender bender issue being properly addressed and not just casually rushed over to get to the lesbian romance.

It just makes it all the more frustrating when I see the MC take nonsensical actions for nonsensical reasons just to explain the tragedy subplot. F*cked up sh*t happens to the MC and to the people they care about, and while the MC talks about resolving the problems, that doesn't really seem to translate into action.

Now don't get me wrong, there's nothing inherently wrong with the Tragedy genre, I just really wish the author would actually put the proper tag for it instead of smacking you in the face with it halfway through the story. That's what these tags are supposed to be for: Warning people of what to expect from your story!

I find this story really good. There are shortcomings but what I find really interesting is how detailed female perspective of world author wrote. Most isekai stories with female MCs are often wish fulfillment power fantasy stories with perfect equal world. It often feels like in those stories MCs really are just males. This story on other hand gives perspective what it is to be woman in fantasy world.

This is a great story, good enough that I binge read this to get current over reading released chapters of the other books I am also reading. The plot is fast enough paced that it doesn't drag, but with enough detail to feel fully involved with what is happening. The world building is top rate, my only complaint is that a bit much of it is kept hidden, the characters act consistently so the author has obviously determined the rules of the world but does not explain these.

I have become emotionally attached to the MC and the cast of secondary characters, to the point of feeling for them when the bad stuff happens - and it does - this story is not all fluffy kittens and warm milk - it is dark in places, but very well written dark so it is mildly horrific but not horrible. Occasionally the MC or others do stuff that I think is a bit illogical as there are "better" choices for them at the time but that mostly makes the characters more human, how often do you not do the most logical choice?

Final comment - This story is gender bender and I happen to agree with the author that gender is partly innate but also partly environment and physiological and the author handles what guy isekai-ing into a female's body would think/feel extremely well, which adds to how good this book is. However if you think gender is immutable I think you will struggle with identifying with the MC.

This is just a flat out great story so far.  The chapters are long and well written and the story and lore of the world seems consistent.  The author is giving you a world and characters and they're staying "in character", which is an issue many authors on here seem to have trouble with.

The gender bender aspect doesn't seem to be too impactful on the story and it seems like the MC is able to somewhat come to grip with her new life as a girl and the focus is more on the world around her and the day to day.  There are some well timed time skips since the MC is born in the new world and the pacing of the overall story is good.  The MC is a very OP MC but the MC is also guided and taught by a more powerful person out of coincidence and convenience for them.  You're able to buy in to the MC's growth and why they become so powerful... although they're still an OP MC regardless.

The story has been very enjoyable so far with a 3x per week release schedule and chapters that are long.  It's not a story you need to forget about for a few months because the author releases 15minutes of total reading time per week.  It's a story that will get you a good amount of story every release that's well balanced between slice of life and plot development.

Tricked is a well written psychological story. The novel spends it's time dwelling within Stahlia's head. We know what she notices and remarks upon, while far more lurks beneath the surface plot.

The occasional scene is written from another character's perspective, serving to enhance our understanding of the world and their motivations. While these scenes might churn the same ground, they cut deeper and offer fleeting insight into the greater world.

At this point, Stahlia is still in the 'childhood' arcs. She stands out as a prodigy, but still has room to grow and develop to cope with the pressures of the world around her. She suffers setbacks which drive her character development in a way that is truly delicious to read.

Now that I've caught up to this story - something that took much longer than I expected despite my binge-reading habits - I can finally put into words the opinions I've formed during my reading. As a small note, I'll be referring to this story as 'Tricked' throughout this review, as to not have to write the full name every time it is mentioned.

First off, the reason why it took me longer than I expected to catch up, the length of the chapters. The chapters for Tricked are, compared to most stories I've read on here and similar sites, big. I'm talking an average of 4k+ words per chapter. On one hand, this means that you can enjoy any new chapter longer than would be the case other stories (and for fellow binge-readers, that there's a lot more to read than the already impressive amount of chapters, nearly 150, would suggest), on the other hand, it can be difficult to take a tiny moment out of your day to quickly read a chapter. Overall though, for me, the chapter length is a big plus.

Last small thing to mention about Tricked as a piece of writing. Whether through the author's efforts to edit out mistakes whenever pointed out, or the efforts of their proofreaders, the grammar and spelling in Tricked is some of the best I've come across on this site.

Now to talk about the actual content of the story, and in particular its strenghts in my eyes.

First of, I gotta talk about the characters, though I mostly wanna focus on our protagonist, Stahlia. The characters in Tricked are in general very fleshed out, and feel like actual people, rather than cardboard cutouts. Everyone has their own thoughts and feelings, their own goals and motivations, their own distinct personality.

Stahlia herself has become one of my favourite protagonists from the ones I've seen on this site. As the tags already mention, she's an antihero, and she will do what's necessary to achieve her goals, but still has morals. Contrary to a lot of other stories with a protagonist who will similarly do what's necessary, Tricked does actually put a focus on the result of such things in regards to a character's mental, and while I can't say I've gone through similar struggles as an isekai protagonist, the way it's handled feels realistic, at least to me.

Now for what I consider one of Tricked's biggest strength; the world this story takes place in, especially its politics, are fantastic. The family Stahlia is born into makes it so she inevitably has to deal with this world's nobility, and thus the politics of her country as well. I don't think any other story I've read with a focus on isekai nobility politics has been so extremely thorough in the mind games and the careful considering of words to choose as Tricked, while still keeping me thoroughly invested and not having me want to drop the story out of boredom. Contrary to a lot of other stories with a similar setting, almost all the nobles in Tricked actually seem to be as cunning and intelligent as such a position would require.

Tricked is a reincarnation isekai, not a transmigration isekai. This means that it goes through the infancy and childhood parts of the protagonist's new life, a part of isekai stories that is generally less engaging to read, and something that can turn many a people away from a story. In this case, despite the children in the story (apart from Stahlia) actually being written as children, I find that it doesn't feel as dull and uninteresting as many other stories that cover the childhood of an isekai's protagonist new life. I'm guessing my feelings on that have to do with the fact that the author isn't afraid to timeskip through some of the boring parts.

The next part of this review will be my main reasons for giving this 4 stars. It will contain major spoilers for the story up until multiple volumes in. That's to say, while I'll refrain from mentioning all the details about the spoilers I'll discuss, the next part is meant mostly for the author, not potential fellow readers.

      Spoiler

This story is tagged as a LitRPG, which means there's a status with stats and skills, and a protagonist who'll use those things to grow in strength by, in this case, working hard to train themselves and their skills. It is because a lot of time is spent on the protagonist working on leveling their skills, that it feels like all that time was wasted when the protagonist's hard-earned skills are suddenly taken away.

Stahlia basically releasing her limiters to beat the main antagonist up until that point in a fight, sacrificing her life to do so, was awesome. To see her handle said antagonist like it was nothing, and seal them away permanently, was awesome. Seeing her dismantle another one of the main antagonists, one who'd caused her severe mental struggles for a long time, was awesome.

Seeing Stahlia be resurrected was expected, since the story would otherwise end right there. Seeing the person she sacrificed her life to seal in a climactic battle be released because the story required it, was disappointing. Having all of Stahlia's skills be sealed and having her suddenly lose one of her most powerful skills in combat, was frustrating. One of Stahlia's most interesting skills being removed entirely - one allowing her to turn off emotions that might otherwise have her hestitate to do the things she must, a skill that allowed for very interesting scenarios and allowed the reader a somewhat closer look at Stahlia's mental, and additionally forced her to really look at the results of her actions - felt like a massive letdown.

If this story was primarily an action-based LitRPG, I would've probably dropped the story at that point. However, the story feels more like a political drama than an action-based LitRPG. It was still disappointing in some ways, especially the disappearance of the skill that allowed her to turn off her emotions, but since the LitRPG aspects of the story - specifically the combat-related parts of it - are not the main focus, it merely resulted in what I consider a blemish on what's otherwise near flawless story.

      [collapse]

I highly recommend Tricked to anyone even somewhat interested in an isekai with a focus on nobility and politics. While the story is a LitRPG, and includes stats, skills and levels, I'd say it's less of a focus than it might seem early on, and I recommend not going into this story expecting the traditional isekai power-fantasy. Despite the 4 stars, this story has become one of my favourites on here.

And to the author, if you see me ranting in the comments under some chapters, those were merely thoughts in the moment, and in no way reflect my opions on every aspect of your story. Great work, and keep up the writing.
