This one is right up my alley, I love stories exploring magic systems. Rules of magic are internally consistent, no 'by the power of friendship' type scenes, and the world and societal structure properly reflects that. Pacing is good, action occurs often enough but not so much it overshadows world building while characters are complex and relatable/believable. Finally...
some early deaths/struggles show there isn't plot armor nor are there over-the-top tragedies occurring for the sake of forcing a batman type origin.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing this story/world grow.

This novel is really something great! I was quite surprised to only see one other review at the time of writing.
The pacing is solid with interesting surprises and no slow ruts nor moving to quickly. It's rare to see a novel that is so consistently dragging me to the next chapter. The main characters are well developed, with said development taking place incrementally throughout the plot.
This is certainly a suspension-of-disbelief story in how smoothly things go, there is some plot armor going on, but the author wisely folds that itself into the plot. I won't give any spoilers here, but things go smoothly for Miles for a reason.
I might be biased because I am a software engineer, but this novel instantly made my top 5 in the last year (rolling).
I'll see you on patreon...
