Arc grew up as the prodigal son of the Obsidian Empress, but one day he disappeared from the Demonic Territories and appeared in Aoi Torii, one of the ten human kingdoms. For some reason his memories of his past were gone and he became an orphan in the slums of Sialia, the capital of Aoi Torii. A fellow orphan named Yue would become his childhood friend after standing up for him when some thugs tried to create trouble. Of course, the snot-nosed brat was actually useless. He got himself beaten up. It was an older orphan, a girl a couple years older, that appeared and ended up beating up the thugs. Elaine was like the mother figure of the orphans. Still, the thing Arc remembers was the glint in the boy’s eye as he talked about justice and becoming a hero.
Because of Arc’s upbringing his personality became quite distorted. He wanted to become the mastermind of the shadows to help raise his childhood friend to the status of hero. However, it is hard to say how successful Arc is. It often appears he is playing around with weird delusions in his head, yet his actions cause waves across the entire kingdom. His actions keep causing unforeseen events to occur and he has to adjust his impulsive plans on the fly. And because of this his actions can often be misunderstood by those affected.
The novel begins on moving day for the first years at the national academy. Can this prodigal, yet incompetent, demon properly raise the hero at the academy? Will he bald because of the stress?
