Callum had seen things all his life. There are monsters and beasts living among people, but he learned very early not to admit such things, not if he didn’t want people to think him crazy.
It turns out that the supernatural is real, but at thirty Callum has no desire to be part of that secret. Not that he has a choice when it turns out he is a mage, albeit one that hasn’t cast any spells in all his life. There are requirements, duties, and education that the powers that be insist he be subject to.
To hell with that.
Starts off incredibly strong, with good amounts of tension, action, world building, experimentation, misunderstandings, and a main character who is both weak and strong at the same time, and it even carries through to the mid point.
Sadly, similar to Blue Core, things eventually die down, and we end up with Blue Core's incredibly boring Slice of Life strength increases, broken up by by occasional hindrance. Rather than pivoting to alternate perspectives and brewing things between major players at a certain point and cutting back once the action picks up, we're instead given endless chapters of minor strength increases and minor hindrances caused by other players while we're given hints that something is brewing.
It doesn't help that the author has, yet again, managed to build an incredibly large world and make it feel microscopic in size, by adding limitations that the main character has to overcome to make it more viable... by, guess what, staying home and farming. He can actually explore the world, but won't because he can't do it under his own power, and a even then a huge majority of it is off limits due to, what the author has even coined, bull**** power. I'm almost confident that when he gains the power to explore it, he'll do it briefly for a chapter and leave.
Overall, I'd highly recommend reading it. It's pretty much Blue Core's masterpiece early chapters extended to last much longer.

Now I really want to write a review for this story but I don't know where to begin.
It's a really good story with mystery, action and drama all blended beautifully. MC is amazing, one my favourite MC to have read recently. Just with how they think, act and everything they try to accomplish. The status changes a few times as the world shifts because the MC reactions and actions, as truths become revealed and the structure of this not morally great world starts to crumble.
The magic system is interesting and well developed. The world, the races, factions all of it are pretty spectacularly intertwined and thoughtout.

as someone who isnt a fan of suspense and drama, this is amazing. I read everything available in one sitting which ended up being the better part of a day. Cant wait for more.

This is a masterpeice if I ever read one. None of the characters are filler, everything is essential to the story. All the mechanics make sense, and the author sticks with the rules he makes. I can relate to the MC nit being very social myself. The ending is complete, leaving almost no questions unanswered, except for the endless possibilities that exist for spinoffs and sequels. Honestly, I cant imagine any way for this story to be better.
I do still wonder if Callum would ever become a true archmage, make amends with Duval, and who is his father?
I strongly encourage you to read this! Just be warned, once you start reading you will have many sleepless nights of binge reading!

This has got to be one of the best stories on the site. Compared to blue core which was good but all over the place this one is very focused. The MC has a very clearly defined domain of power with very obvious strengths and weaknesses. The story is about playing to a spacial mage's strengths and hedging against weaknesses. Every victory is hard won and very satisfying as a result.

Huh. Came here after Blue Core expecting a good novel with smut. Got no smut, but sure as hell got a good novel.... Callum has easily become one of my all time favorite protagonists. He's incredibly careful, cautious to the point of paranoia (and justifiably so!), creative and just so, so relatable. Beyond him, the world building is just fantastic and the writing is pretty much flawless. 10/5

They've done it again. Mysterious and suspenseful, with a brilliant take on magic theory and artifact creation. A race to see which party can unravel the other's secrets faster. An underdog story. It's rare to find a story so comprehensive as this one. Plenty of detail and theory crafting to sink your teeth into, with a plot that is easy to follow or catch up with.

I don’t know how to convey how excellent this is; five stars is not enough.
