This is a superhero urban fantasy. Much like Spider-Man, the MC got his powers from an animal. Thomas, the MC, is still in high school. Yet, he has the characteristics of someone who is popular, which deviates from the normal troupes. 

From what I have read so far, the MC values family and is good-hearted. The novel is slow-paced, but it drops hints here and there. Like the fact that there are superheroes in the world. That it seems to be an alternative Earth.

The world building is done in bite sized installments and the story is chatty. The grammar is good and so is the style. Much thought has gone to establishing the characters, despite the limited time in which they were introduced. 

It is a good novel, for sure.
