The point of view character of the story, a thirty year old office worker with cybernetic enhancements. Due to genetic engineering, she looks like a twenty year old. As her worklife is pushing her to an inevitable burnout, she finds herself transported to another world.
The second character introduced in the story, she is Irene's travel companion. A blue haired woman who looks like she's at most twenty years old while actually being in her later twenties. Merely observed the existence of outworlders before she met Irene.
Third character introduced in the story, the keeper of a magic shop in the village of Polur. Forced to take the position by her family. Likes to act theatrically when dealing with people she doesn't know, thinking that's the best way to make a good impression.
She comes from a long line of mages, but Karine is more a crafter of magical items and a magical researcher of sorts than a caster of magic herself.
Fourth character introduced in the story. Karine's assistant. Wears strangely ornate outfits day in day out, betraying her probable noble lineage.
Likely harbors feelings for Karine.
Polur is a sleepy village of a hundred people just far enough from Grendelle, the capital of Fortalie, to not be considered a part of its territory. Mainly notable for its well equipped inn, its magic shop as well as its grand church dedicated to the Six.
Even though it's close the ruins of a town, it's unusually unpopular among adventuring types.
General term for all those who've been transported between worlds. There are usually more than one of them in the world at any given time, with summoned outworlders being the most common. This is because even though the cost for summoning one person can be immense, the power and innovation they grant to the host country is often considered worth the price.
Summons, reincarnations, and Irene, the lone "brute forcer," are all considered outworlders.
Named such by Irene after she found out the function of the particles that seem to permeate all life in this world. They are used up whenever magic is cast or magical items are used, converting the particles to various magical effects.
Rune stones are found all over the world, but this particular type refers to the rune stones found in tubs, street lights and other household and general items. Some of them require a person to activate them by touching them, others are activated by proximity.
What these types of rune stones do is convert the magic particles found in living beings to a particular effect, such as turning cold, dirty water into warm and clean water.
If I were to describe this story in my own words, I would put "Equal parts irritating and amusing." This review will explain what I mean by that.
The Characters: The characters in this story are good. I wouldn't call them incredible or anything but I do like how the main character acts and thinks. To me she seems almost stuck in a nonchalant "Okay, this is happening." format that sometimes diverges into mild panic, anxiety, or irritation. Perhaps that's just the software and cybernetics talking but I can't be too sure of that. The other characters are good but lack a more lifelike and descriptive depth to them. Including the main characters love interest. So yeah, The main character is my favorite.
The Plot: The story overall is... fine so far. I'd give it a 3.5 to 4 rating as it is now. Remember that equal parts amusing and irritating thing I mentioned? The plot is why. Firstly because everything in it proceeds at a rather fast pace. It's irritating to me because it feels like the 31 chapters I read so far could have easily been 40 or 45 chapters with the same content but just at a slower and more slice of life pace that focuses more on fleshing out everything. But at the same time it's amusing to me because it feels like the author gave the main character a plot convenience easy button so that the plots speed doesn't leave her behind. So situations keep happening so fast that I get a chuckle every time I go "Already?! That easily?! That was fast."
Tldr: The story is good but not great. As of now I wouldn't give it anything higher than 4 stars. But I will be sticking with this story so that rating might change in the future.
