Synopsis

Matsumoto Kunio was just an average human living a boring life in Tokyo, Japan. That was the case until he died and was reincarnated to another world!  Armed with a System and tasked with a mission to save the world, watch as Matou, the new name he was given, sets off on an epic adventure!

…Or at least, that should have happened?

“All right, hand me the thingamabob, you’re no longer the main character! Now, how does this thing work? Ah.

“My name is Kayden, and witness my ascendance to the God of Thieves! None shall be safe from my hands, not even your beloved System! Muahahahaha!”

This can’t be happening…

Author’s note.

    Status: chapter 60 – confrontation

This book is really good, I didn't expect it to be this good and have such nice quality sense I didn't see anybody reading it but this is definitely underrated, the plot is good, the character development is great, love the way the author introduces characters and how they grow, the comedy is on point, and I love the world building.

The story is entertaining enough at the beginning the problem is the series of concepts ditched after that. The story promises alot and doesn't ever pay on those promises.

Author introduces a cool concept a local from the world steals the cheat of a reincarnator not exactly new but not overused either. That really doesn't go anywhere at the very least that character hasn't been seen for a few chapters but the author has hinted at his appearance in the future.

It gets steadily less cool from there. We are introduced to a ridiculous adventurer that feels our MC has slighted him and proceeds to try to take him out multiple times. Even though our MC couldn't do the same to him because of guild sanctions. Every enemy of the MC seems to have plot armor. When the adventurer tries to go after the MC because his rating given to him by the underground intelligence agencies will go down be acts as though guild sanctions don't exist. Let's suppose they don't MCs master is a space mage that can teleport that has been shown capable and willing to beat up this adventurer for going after the MC. It seems impossible for someone to reach B rank and be that stupid.

MC groups up with an adventuring team from a different continent. And they walk to these ruins instead of taking horses something the story beats you over the head with. Then when they do arrive an adventurer friend of the MC had her character completely changed in between two chapters she went from being this cool high ranking local adventurer to a jealous weak character because of a conversation she has with a child. Adults that I know tend not to have their views swayed so easily by children.

Then there are the system problems it makes no sense.

    Spoiler

The system is stolen by the god of thieves from the reincarnator and given to the MC

    [collapse]
that's fine, but the system has the ability to cut off certain features by itself. A system sent by a God to save the world has the option to brick itself if the host does something it doesn't like and has been shown to be willing to use that power. That makes literally zero sense. The God that made the system is brain dead for allowing that. The system itself is brain dead because
    Spoiler

    it is sentient and

    [collapse]
it's continued existence is tied to the host its not a system that leaves when the host dies at least from what we've been told. Meaning it is cutting off access to tools that would extend it and it's hosts life. Even though until this point it has only been used as an appraisal skill and in place of a translation artifact. Also there is an ability the MC has that was identified by the system but it has not been explained to us the reader that the author has teased a couple times but not used because he wants to use it to get the character out of a bind later on. That is not a guess the author literally commented that rational on a chapter.

I wrote this review this way to illustrate another point which is that nothing happens in the story. After reading this review you could start at chapter 52 and read the story with little to no problems.

The problems with the story are so great that I wish I hadn't started reading in the first place. I would save your time until the story is written further and every thing I describe here is retconned away if it hasn't been already. Or maybe the story is lying about concepts it established it has done so once already, even if that is true my rating stands because lying to the reader makes for a bad story.

Overall I enjoyed this. It's got a nice goal for the characters and overall has likeable characters. I enjoyed it, though it looks like the author stopped writing.
