Characters
Robots and their names.

Nanos. - is just a shortening of nanobots. It's a catch-all term for every kind.

Custo. - is a shortening of the term custom. Once again, this is a catch-all term, but will most likely only refer to "crawler-bots" and not humanoids (if there will be).

Sam.

"Yes, yes, call me mom or dad, or whatever, you are still wearing a scarf."

Sam is just your average, friendly neighbor with an open mindset and loose life goals who would cook you some soup if you came at 3 AM, knocking at his door, covered in blood, and asking to crash for a night. By the morning, you will have a five dish breakfast, and they would have measured your body and run to the store to buy you a new set of clothes during the night. And that's only for the people they have never seen before!

They always try to help, don't understand personal boundaries, never betray, are extremely blunt, and know when not to ask questions (but you'll tell them anyway). They have an uncanny ability to judge people at a glance, and will adjust their behavior accordingly.

Sam had a gender in the past, but it was unfortunately lost, but not too much changed, as they could always switch their behavior according to what was needed at the time.

Fred.

"That is irrational and a waste of recourses."

Fred is a hyper-advanced AI made by Sam by striping all the code that is labeled as him (That means memories, personality, preferences etc...) and adding a blank personality file on top. So, while Sam is a human with a computer added, Fred is a computer with human added.

He is something like an assistant to Sam, handling all the boring bits, so Sam can focus on the interesting parts and experimenting. But, as he is basically an emotionless computer, he doesn't hate his job. He understands how inefficient Sam is, so he himself often takes work out of Sam's hands. There is a piece of code in him that reminds him to reconnect with Sam if something happens like Sam dying or the wires being cut, but it is nothing more than an annoying reminder, and he can easily turn it off, but despite that, he doesn't.

Carla.

"Eh, as long as it's not too difficult."

Carla is a young elf. She always looks rather chill, but although most of the time that is the case, but she can be extremely serious when needed. Because she is extremely young, other elves in the village used to boss her around under the pretence of seniority. To those who done it, she has always done shoddy work using minimal effort, but for those who treat her fairly, like Holly, know her as a hardworking, earnest girl with a fiery flare to everything she does.

Spoiler

She left her parents at the young age of one hundred, and went to live

into another village, as is custom for some older families,

[collapse]
and met Roland on the road, as they were heading for the same border village, and was impressed by his knowledge. They became best friends ever since.
Artyom.

[Tree. Cosmos. Balloon. Hyperbolic functions. Multiversal particle deviation. Bird. Balloon.]

Artyom is a broken, fully melded combination of human and computer. Both parts are him, none is greater than the other. He was created by presumably accident by depressed Sam while experimenting with alchl.exe and his own code. Unfortunately, most of the memories from that time are gone, as Sam rarely survived for more than a couple of minutes before corrupting himself or something similar happening, forcing Fred to reload from the last hourly save.

He is art incarnate. Logic thought is extremely difficult for him, so Sam made a bunch of support programs to help him interact with different machinery, so he can create. He can't form coherent sentences, but perfectly understands all forms of communication by piggybacking off of Sam's thoughts and his knowledge of languages. Sam lets him read his live thought despite Fred's protests due to it being the only way of communication, and Artyom attempting to recreate all the chaotic thoughts and half-formed ideas floating in Sam's supercharged mind, which Sam finds cute.

Roland.

"Yes, but how would you... no, that wouldn't work..."

Roland is a young sorcerer taught entirely by his father, leading to unorthodox thinking when compared to certified sorcerers. Due to his lack of certification, when he first came to the village no one trusted him enough to give him work, and so he was in a tight spot with Carla helping him stay on his feet. He was officially recognized when he was "hired" to make the Wall for the village due to head of the council not seeing why they even needed it and wanting to cut costs, so he gave him this task as a "test", which was basically a pretense for free labor.

Roland met Carla on the road to the village when her backpack tore on a branch and she was gathering her items. He helped her pick everything up and sewed the hole so the backpack could be used again, and was promptly smitten by her smile. He has not regretted helping her even once.

Naec.

"Hello everyone, I'm Nae-[Memory Leak] Hello ever-[Memory Leak] H-[Reallocating Memory]"

Naec (Which stands for AI-assisted Note And Event Compiler) is as broken as he is curious, but don't let that cloud your judgment about him. He was made to help Sam keep notes so his personality was quite similar in the beginning, but he quickly deviated and became his own person.

He is extremely inquisitive, free spirited, blunt, and loves to tease and play pranks, but can be serious when the circumstance calls for it.

Chapter types and stuff.

Chapter X.5: XXX - a small amalgamation of snippets of information relating to previous chapters. Generally, from a different point of view. Too small to be made into a chapter.

Extra Chapter X: XXX - a chapter from a different point of view or similar differences. It will probably not be in the style of a diary, so excuse me for any drops in quality, I'm not very good at writing. Counts as a full chapter.

As of writing this review, this novel has the potential to become as good if not greater than the station core series by Jonathan Brooks. It's a great little dungeon / automaton novel, and is really well written. The world building could use some expanding, as well as more interaction between characters. Overall it's well written and, judging by the bit about joining 2 discords to figure out technical stuff, is really well thought out. There do seem to be some problems with overall plot direction however, and lack of antagonist, but a pretty great read.

Some notes for the author. (Spoilers ahead)

While the paragraphs are a little long and run for longer than most novels, the sentence structure and grammar is fine and needs no changing. An easy fix, just learn when to cut up the paragraphs and make them a bit shorter. Think of it like one idea encompasses one paragraph.

Another problem it seems you are having is overall plot direction and what you want the characters to do. There also doesn't seem to be any sort of antagonistic force, like an evil force that is trying to take control of the MC. Both are small challenges but are both easily doable. First, have some sort of ultimate goal that you want the main character to achieve. Do you want him to become a planetary administrator? Galactic? Some sort of trans-dimensional orbital weapons platform that teleported around? Does the MC feel like he would want to do that? Incorporate an end goal with the MCs personality in mind and put roadblocks that he must persevere and overcome in his way. If you ever find a nice point that doesn't leave to many open threads and cinches the story up nicely, feel free to end it there, and start on a second book in the series. If it's good enough, you can even proposition and get picked up by some publishing companies for some $$$.

As for antagonists, maybe you can add something like goblins before Carla arrived and after the squirrels returned. Maybe they are looking for the squirrels as a food source? maybe a neighboring country or the current countries administration decides that they want whatever the MC is and decides to try to take it for themselves. Sets up a nice revenge line for the MC if some squirrels die or for Carla if Roland dies or vice versa, and gives the MC more personality and weight to his actions. Also sets up for the MC to become some sort of country administration should the MC depose the current countries government. Politics galore is really fun, everyone loves a bit of noble interactions.

One of my only problems with the novel is the adding of multiple narrators. Naec and Artyom aren't necessary, and seem like more of a stopgap to the problem of direction you seem to be facing. Honestly I would just chuck it up as a loss and rewrite most of it after their inclusion.

As for the squirrels or goblins, you can easily add a sequence of events shortly after the squirrel family comes back. Maybe the overheating it causes could be some sort of reason why he misses the goblins chasing the squirrels? Then in some later chapter with Carla mention goblins and boom you have some "natural" enemies that you can use that block the MC from getting resources.

You could also make it so that the matter conversion device isn't all powerful and can't process every type of material, or certain heavier elements cost prohibitively more to create in terms of time and energy. Ties a good storyline of clearing out a goblin infested mine and using mining bots and whatnot in a little station. Perhaps this can be a catalyst for governments to step in? With a couple of sneaky chapter reworks and exposition, I wouldn't doubt most of this can be tied in and can reach the top of the charts in like 2 months, as long as you keep a consistent schedule. And if you get something like word, or just download a free copycat somewhere, you can work on it if you are having internet connection issues.
