Synopsis

Full Title: An Author's Guide: How To Survive As Your Dark Fantasy Novel's MC!
================
"Novels are written and read as an act of defiance against the fact that we have but one life to live."

Zayne Morgan, 24 years old, was a decently successful web novel author, who just finished his web serial!
Because of a request from one of his biggest and most frequent donators, he agrees to the idea of his next work being a revised version of his previous one, but with a twist!
The concept of his new novel is that he gets reincarnated into the body of his MC!
Interested by the novelty of the idea, Zayne agrees after a few changes.

But he never expected that he'd actually get reincarnated!

Good news, he gets reincarnated together with his Girlfriend. The love of his life.
Also good news, because of the aforementioned donator's love for vampires, his girlfriend, Luna, is the last remaining vampire in the story's world!

Bad news... the story he wrote was a Dark Fantasy.
A Dark Fantasy Zayne started writing when he was younger, and had various problems with his family and life in general.
A Dark Fantasy that he'd filled with a large number of serial killers, cannibals, psychopathic murderers, demon summoners, and much much more!

Now, Zayne must strive to use the knowledge of his own novel's world to avoid all the dangerous things his angsty, edgy teenager self wrote, and carve out a place where he can enjoy his married life with Luna!

DISCLAIMER: There will be NO HAREM for the MC here. Unless he wants to die at his lover's hands.
Or my drunk self gets a hold of my laptop and makes this a harem.

Chapter Length: 1.5k words minimum. The norm is 2000+. It can only be more, never less.

Hello, I'm Lire from the Philippines!
This is a story with characters based on a short story I wrote right after a breakup, way back when I was still too shy to post anything.
The characters in the short story were fifteen, but here, they're already adults and they've been a couple for a pretty long time.

For now, this is a Scribblehub-only novel, but I plan to post it on Royalroad when it gets enough chapters. If you have an account there, please support my novel there as well! (Once it's up there, that is.)
I have around 20 chapters in my backlog at the moment, so if it looks like it's doing well here, I'll post more.
Please point out any spelling or grammar mistakes that I make. English isn't my first language, so it'd help me out a lot if you do.

As I mentioned, this was originally written to be posted on Royalroad, and RR does NOT allow smut.
Hence, no smut scenes have been written. (Probably never, since I'm bad at them)
The MC and his lover have sex (naturally), but I do not portray that.
I'm very sorry, citizens of Smuthub!

If you like my work, why don't you try another one of my novels? It's titled [Glimpse of Eternity], and it has a significant amount of chapters out already! (Although it's also a bit rough around the edges since it's my first baby.)

THIS... IS amazing and frankly put I don't have many words to describe how excited I am for this series to continue on.

I am calling it right now, I definitely believe that sooner or later when people find this, it's going to go off-the-charts.

(Note* This is wrote in the earlier chapters of the story, so I can't really talk much about the future; but I want to believe and continue to believe that this'll later on go to become my favorite.)

As promised ill write it, decent this time.

The plot as ive said in my old review, that this novel really likes to take it slow, heck the whole prologue is long as hell. Well to be honest I can't really call that bad since I kinda love slow paced stories. The plot is decent, yes if you can't tell I don't really like the isekai genre that much but I don't hate it either. To simply put it, this novel follows the usual trope that our MC and our fMC got isekai'd to another world but what I like about this one is the way the characters are written they simply feel like real, breathing human beings. The way they talk to each other is simply entertaining.

The chapters is small but its filled with basically all information and details you need to understand, its importance to the whole plot, due to this each chapters feels alive.

This story has a very peculiar set of details within it that help it fill a hole in the Isekai/Reincarnation genre, and the Author's take help give this story a more fun twist that gives it more worth than the other parts. I'm placing my entire review into spoiler tags as it is necessary to perform a full review.

    Spoiler

    -- Plot --

The plot of the story is the same as any other Isekai/Reincarnation: you've got a character (s) that are sent from our world into another. There's no foul play, no weirdness, just the typical Here -> There. At the current point, we know very little about the other world and have little knowledge of what's going to happen. It's a slow burn, however, for good cause.

The initial portion of the story establishes the bond between our two Main Characters. It gives us good insight to who they are, their relationship, and sets the stage of what to expect from them going forward. In addition, we learn quite a bit about how our Author (the character) thinks and how he truly cares about his written world. As we move from Earth to GMAG, this is reinforced during their first interactions with the world.

The only problem is that at this point, there's no actual plot. It's been filler and prologue up to now. We don't know anything about any villains. There's no goals for the characters. There's no details or fluff about the GMAG world. There's nothing. I expect the Author (of this novel) to establish the plot/goal of the story within the next few chapters. If not, then for those reading and interested in the story- be ready for a long ride.

    -- Grammar --

The grammar within the story needs some work but it doesn't break the readability. There's an overuse of commas, some use of "Lol" and anime-typical gestures/verbiage, and there are a few times words are misused or the sentences read awkwardly. If you aren't bothered by all this, though, then by all means carry on. For those that sort of flinch when you read it, prepare yourself. It's not prevalent nor excessive but it feels like you hit a pothole when it comes up. It's sharp, random, and never quite where you want it.

The comma problem isn't so much a problem due to its consistency factor, but it certainly makes reading difficult sometimes. Due to the effect a comma has on our mental voice, its relatively frequent appearance makes it feel like you're hiccuping sometimes. The Author pairs this with the word "but" to make it worse and now you've got a speed bump effect. If I had a recommendation for this; split the sentences. It'll be a smoother read.

    -- Characters --

The characters are two fold; a treat, and wholly unrealistic. Their interactions with one another and the world show that the rules of the Earth within this story are not the same rules in real life. It doesn't exactly detract from the experience but I was left asking some questions at times. After the first two chapters, it really came across as self-insertion of the Male and a sort of fantasty-insertion of the Female. But, this didn't make them impossible to connect with.

The relationship between them is one a lot of young individuals have. They've been together for several years, they certainly love one another, and they are simply trying to live their lives. They're struggling, it's evident in the way Zayne thinks. He's had a rough life and he's finally got a sense of stability going for him. There is more to Luna than we initially see based on certain scenes and events, and her love for Zayne is pretty thick. This relationship is the backbone of the story and establishes itself as such.

Everything else, though, is questionable. When reading, keep in mind that this is a story. Don't get hemmed up on the little details of realism and you'll find yourself enjoying it a lot more. Or don't and get confused or scratch at your head at times like I did.

    -- Overall --

The story as a whole, as mentioned prior, has a lot going for it so far. The characters, the GMAG world, and the fresh take on Isekai are all recipes for success. It's a fun read thus far. The chapters are short and don't really cut off awkwardly, but there are some details lacking in places that you as the Reader need to fill in. Don't overthink it and just go with the flow, you'll be fine.

I do have one warning, though. This story is currently on a knife's edge. Tilt too far and it'll become a more battle of attrition, with the characters going through a slog of events that bog the story progression down and make it stale. On the other hand, with the MC knowing everything about GMAG, he might try to bulldoze it and might end up becoming to OP and fail to achieve as much as the original character from the story. Luna's influence also has me concerned, as her constant need for physical attention has planted fears of this turning into a smut title acting like a regular novel. If her character doesn't develop, it'll be a hindrance.

    [collapse]

Final Rating: 3.5/5. It's a good read, has potential but it has its flaws. Overall though, so long as the author remains true to the setup so far- it's got a good future. If you like the genre and this type of writing, it's a treat that should definitely be enjoyed. Recommend binge-reading. The chapters are pretty short.

    • I like the story behind the diluted pace and attitude of the protagonist to things from work to taking care of loved ones, I also liked the transfer of the diluted past of the protagonist and heroine,
