Synopsis

The Jade Veterinarian follows a young man and writer of unoriginal harem adventure novels Chen Jiajian, who most parents would call ‘a disappointment’. He throws his life away on a kitten in the road, but his selfless act earns him the good will of the Cat Emperor. Awarded one of the Emperor’s Nine Lives, he wakes up in a world that seems very familiar. It should be: he wrote it!

Supreme Warlord of the Beast World wasn’t a breakout hit, but it was just different enough that readers took notice of him. The plot: Yue Fengjian, a strong, heroic cultivator from the mountains, must seek help from other parts of the human world to save his ancestral home from the encroaching threat of demons from the west. Each sect he meets has its own strengths and weaknesses, but the hero’s strength and compassion win him friends and respect, even among enemies. The Beauties in each sect fall head-over-heels for him. In the end, each sect sends their strongest, wisest members to help repel the demonic hordes. After their stunning victory, Yue Fengjian is made the Red Emperor, ruling over all human lands with a benevolent hand.

But instead of transmigrating into the main character, he’s just Lian Zhidiao, a ‘cannon fodder’ character, mentioned once and then forgotten like thousands of others he made up and discarded when necessary. A disappointment in the real world, and a nobody in this one: can’t he even get transmigration right?

To make matters worse, all the things that he expects—a System, a Protagonist’s Halo—are nowhere to be found. Try as he might, he can’t bring up any kind of interface. His own shoddy world-building bites his back too, as things he doesn’t remember writing or even imagining start to pile up and threaten his understanding of the world. Does he need to preserve the events of the story, or just the outcomes? With no warning system, how does he know if he’s made a mistake?

Can cannon fodder really stand out in this world that blends together with all the others?

This is truly a gem within the BL genre.

Whenever I read a chapter I feel as though I am meandering though the world this author has created. It is a fantasy, mystery, tad of slice of life, detailed explanation (but not forced exposition) of cultivation terms and other mystical creatures, and a MC that actually fits the mature tag with his thoughtfulness and care in interacting with others. It does a wonderful job of blending all these elements.

Lian Zhidiao (also Chen Jiajian) is a complex main character. He seems interested in improving his fate as a cannon fodder and discovering hidden truths in the novel, but tends to suffer from undervaluing himself. Even if he is weak in some regards, he has many moments where he shines.

Side characters aren't forgettable, either, they each have their own personalities and motives. The ML is a bit on the serious side I'd say, yet clearly very worried and interested in the MC despite not openly stating so. It seems that his future character growth might involve overcoming the obsession to become what his father, no, what the world wants him to be.

Additionally, there are politics and intrigue between sects, actions of large body organizations such as sects are arranged logically in a way that most other novels neglect. Interspersed are action and comedy scenes that really help keep the story moving.

Whenever I read a story with this setting I generally expect a few tropes. Unexplained magic for plot convenience, a mash of characters that are clearly good or evil, a MC that is 200% dense and an overbearing ML. There is none of that nonsense here. Even if I compare it to official Chinese novels this author knows their stuff, they avoid some of the usual annoying tropes seen in Chinese novels and provide more coherence than most.

For some, this novel might be a bit too dense and slow-moving when readers are used to fast wear and face-slapping, but I would highly recommend it to those who want plot depth and world exploration alongside a slow progression of romance.

The novel's world-building is very intriguing, there are elements that are unique to this novel, like jade beasts. I could tell the author put a ton of thought into the novel and probably did a lot of research too.

There's this overarching mystery (I believe) behind the jade beasts and the war between demons and people, the author lets out a few clues and a few more mysteries at such a natural pace with detailed and interesting descriptions that it's almost like you're spending the day with these characters.

The "boys love" part, for those that came for that, it does pop out from time to time and very satisfying during those times. Just something to let people know about.

Overall, I think the writing is great (good grammar, pacing, syntax), the story is intriguing, and the elements are unique!

    Highly suggest!

So far I find the story very intriguing and find myself sympathizing with the MC. The story line seems solid, with no visible plot holes to be seen. The characterization is entertaining, each character has their own personality, they're not one-note-cardboard-cutouts. Especially the protagonist, who isn't some irrational I-am-god character, and actually has good motivations. The writing style is very captivating and I find myself wanting more. If you wish to see more you can go to the writer's official site (https://yushouyishi. Wordpress. Com/yu-shou-yi-shi/) as they have more chapters up there.

    I love this SO MUCH

But it's been years without update QAQ

This pained my heart but I am even more worried about the author. I hope they are well and safe because you can feel how much love and effort have been put in this so if they can't keep going, it fear what might have happened.

I reached the last chapter, 59, long ago so I can't give a proper review. But I know the character are very meticulously written, the worldbuilding is well thought and the plot is magnificent.

BUT WE WERE LEFT IN THE MIDDLE OF SUCH TRAGIC ARC!!!!

MY BABY IS SAD AMD I AM SAD!!!

    HELP!!!
