Hmm! I don't see any written reviews on this yet, and it deserves one, so let's get started.
I enjoy this story! I binged it over the course of a couple days and found myself thoroughly entertained. I did not find myself much more than entertained—this book isn't going to change your life or leave you with new, indescribable emotions or outlooks—but that's okay. It doesn't have an engaging magical system or deeply compelling villains or in-depth world design or complex interpersonal drama, but it's not selling itself on any of those merits. It's a fun story with just enough meat to keep me engaged, and I can heartily recommend it on those grounds.
I do have to say, though: the great irony of this book is that the polycule is the least interesting aspect of it. We barely even get to learn anything about a party member before the next one is introduced, hardly any of them have interesting amounts of screentime or compelling interactions with each other, and it just overall does not at all feel like a focus of the story. Which is weird, but it's sweet enough and not really what I was here for. What I was here for is the prospect of the main character—a random college student from Earth—finding out that she is a goddess of justice from a horribly, horribly unjust world run by selfish, arrogant gods at war with selfish, murderous gods and having to come to terms with the fact that she is the only force that may be able to help, a monumental task that she is profoundly unprepared for. Though the story doesn't engage too deeply in the horror aspects of this (which anyone familiar with my writing would know is my preference) it does do a good job of characterizing the main character as someone who acknowledges both her shortcomings and responsibilities in compelling ways. Though I was disappointed by the supporting cast, I very much like the main character of this story, and it was more than enough to see me through to the current chapter. Add that to near-perfect grammar and spelling and extremely natural, easy-to-read prose, and this story excels at entertainment. So yeah, five stars. I obviously don't think it's perfect, but rating any lower would reduce the average review score of the book, which would be a rather poor way to say "I liked it." Star rating systems are kind of nonsense. Anyway, author, thank you for writing, and I look forward to more!
