Huentlitolli (lit. Gift-Speech) definitions



  • Quick explanation of the words used:

    • Tzincueitl: a skirt worn at the waist.

    • Cactli: open-top sandals, the sutherlands wear them with additional leather strapping up the calf to make them into sorta-buskins

    • Texocotl: a sort of indigenous mexican hawthorn apple

    • Tecuani: literally ‘[the] one [who] eats people,’ the Eater of Men

    • Ayatl: the jorongo-type garment that all Tonaltocaqueh wear. Cozca’s is called a Raincloak because she lives in the Towers, but those living in the Teeth near Bodkin wear one more like a Rebozo, and those in the Wastes wear one more like a bedouin aba.

    • Bodkin: the largest permanent settlement south of the Midden. The city is inhabited by trolls, it is vertically built into the highest and southernmost of the Towers, near the Teeth. 

    • Tetzahuitli: lit. “Omen.” Mutated creatures that are not beastly enough to be Tecuani. In South-Middish they’re called Not-of-this-World(s)

    • Huentlitolli: lit. “Gift-Speech,” the language given to the Followers of the Sun by the Gifts-Giver.

    • Tonaltocaqueh: The Followers of the Sun, the Gift-Speech name for the Southlanders
