Richard Murphy was always someone that liked the villains in the comic books, not because of their backstory but because of their charisma, power, intellect and influence, so to be like the villains he trained hard, reading about martiar arts and practicing them, learning about good leadership and what not to do. The finally as if the world was granting his wishes, he gained a superpower.
