At the end of everything, the Final Reaper decided he hadn’t been a hero. Driven by a desire to right the wrongs he was subjected to, he killed everyone who wronged him or his people - which turned out to be everyone that wasn’t killed by someone else first. He'd won - but it was a hollow victory.

Eventually, Order’s Voice found a way out. If the only existing being would agree to give up most of his power, the Voice could reset the multiverse to an earlier time with a few minor changes. Of course, the Voice couldn't ask it that way. It could only ask if the Final Reaper was willing to start over from when Earth was first brought into Order.

It was an easy decision, and yet it wasn’t. Was he willing to go through eons of pain again to not be alone?

Yes. In a heartbeat.

Not that his heart beat anymore. Now it would. Perhaps he could even be a hero, this time.

When he landed in his old body - more or less - on Earth, the Final Reaper once again became Thomas. He was both and neither. He needed a new name for a new life.

Serenity.

While this is technically a System Apocalypse story, it's a System Apocalypse that is designed to have a large percentage of the population survive and prosper. There are a lot of problems that come with the appearance of the Voice, and it's entirely possible to lose. Earth has some special opportunities, but also special challenges.

The first time around, Earth won the first round and lost the second. Serenity has ten years from when the Voice arrives to prevent that from happening. It will be a group effort; Serenity can't win alone - which is difficult for someone who's been alone for as long as he has.

Of course, that's only his second priority.

It will start out very stereotypically for the first few chapters (for epic fantasy at least). If you can tolerate a couple of seeming tropes (i.e. the Chosen One etc.) for 5 or so chapters, I promise that The Eternal War will diverge into much more interesting storylines. I like writing slow burns, taking my time to establish characters etc., before getting into the exciting bits of a story. I also thoroughly enjoy trying to subvert tropes, although how successful I am with that is up to the individual reader, of course.

It is worth noting that these one-shots are a bit different in flavor than the series I write, in that they tend to be a bit... darker. Not all of them, of course. The FF is set in the GITS:SAC universe instead of SAC_2045 (so SAC_2045 AU). So a few years after S1&S2. All SAC S1 and S2 series pretty much left as is, but there can be minor differences in the past events, like Section 9 is already back together. There is basically no plot from SAC_2045 (seriously, sustainable war? 1984? geez), so it doesn’t contain SAC_2045 spoilers (kinda..), but most of the characters are the same, and their personalities mostly as they were. You don’t need to know much about GITS or GITS:SAC to read, though some surface knowledge would help getting into it easier. The main character is Esaki Purin, because I love her. There won’t be any straight ships, only girls (and enby) love! There will be OCs or characters from other GITS.

I stood up to take a closer look at them and even opened a few out of curiosity. While I could read most of them just fine, some of the oldest-looking books were written in a language I didn't recognize.

"Hm? Was my hand always blue?"

I didn't remember. In fact, I couldn't recall anything about myself, not even my name. Inspecting the rest of my body, I found that it was the same all over. I didn't feel sick; quite the opposite. Still, my blue skin felt out of place for some reason. Trying to find an answer to my situation, I kept investigating the odd room.

Well, perhaps not as bog-standard as all that; his parents died around his tenth birthday in a tragic plane crash, and he was taken in by the grandfather of his childhood friend, Ellie, whose parents had died in that very same crash. There was something...different about the grandfather, more specifically his occupation - despite living in the middle of nowhere with nothing of import within miles, he somehow had some incredibly confidential job that neither Thomas nor Ellie knew anything about.

Until shortly after Ellie's eighteenth birthday, that is. The grandfather took them to a fantastic world known as The Outlands, where he revealed that he was the head of the Freelancer's Guild, and made preparations to show the two the ropes of freelancing.

But...when their stats were measured, things took yet another turn. In a monumental coincidence, it turned out that Ellie had the best stat growths possible, immediately marking her for stardom, while Thomas had the worst possible. Such misfortune would usually mean that he was wholly unsuitable for the business, but...the Goddess of Fortune had seen his bad luck and took pity on him, granting him her strongest blessing.

And, thanks to that blessing, he soon found himself on a path of great change, both for himself, and the world as a whole...

He will only be able to fight the Hero with abilities he can reasonably get, and naturally, each universe he goes through will give him more of an advantage compared to the common people, but the real Heroes will always have something like classical fanfiction heroes, which means powers like Devil Fruits, Haki,  Ninjutusus, systems, cultivation, powerful bloodlines, magic, Marvel or DC powers, an inbuilt AI or other weird but powerful abilities.
