Keary stepped closer, and Cardin turned aside in a panicked attempt to escape, only to find himself trapped when the taller boy quickly reached out to put a hand against the cupboard to block him. Cardin squeezed his eyes tightly shut, only to open them when fingers took hold of his chin and tilted his face upward.

“Tell me.” The note of barely concealed lust in the low voice sent shivers running through his body. "Tell me what I think it is, and what it really was."

And depending on your genetics you could get better at using it, expand what you could do with it. Sort of like training your muscles and your brain. If you train a lot, new heights can be reached to a certain point.
It's a source of power that could be applied and used in potentially limitless ways…
And certain people observing the world from the future want to get their hands on these magic users to use for their own experiments, as the gene is rare and almost gone in the vast future, the one’s with extremely overwhelming magic power are being targeted...
You'll follow two different protagonists, viewing the story from two different sides.(eventually as we get chapter 2 out)

Cutting to Life is a slow-burn LitRPG with a villainous (later anti-hero, or maybe still villainous, haha) female lead.

It's told from the perspective of Nikola, an NPC within the World of Wills who's become sapient and is now mysteriously able to play the game as a PC. It's quite light for a LitRPG, but the system and stats become more of a focus later when Nikola herself can access them.

The story gradually builds into a Battle Royale where the players' lives are on the line (if you die in the game, you die in real life), and only one party of savvy adventurers can win. They'll have to spend their time and stats wisely as dungeons promising rare gear float down from the sky - but is a legendary sword worth killing someone for, knowing they'll stay dead forever?

- This story is told in third person, past tense.
- This is a slow-burn LitRPG that spends a lot of time establishing its setting and characters, because I believe this will make for a better payoff in the end. As such, the Battle Royale doesn't start until chapter 30 or so.
