More urgent even than that, though, is their captivity. Getting back to the real world is a higher priority than this metamorphosis that rapidly begins to feel natural... but this is only the first step, as the diverse types of fae blood they carry begin to surface.

With no resources except themselves, how can they escape this prison? If they succeed, how can they possibly reclaim their lives? Just how many other faelings have been kidnapped, anyway, and what happened to them? And is there a way to make sure that their captors never put anyone else through this?

Back in the real world, Kayla, who learned long ago to trust her gut instincts, is absolutely certain that something is very wrong. The pattern in the list of missing friends is easy to spot, but makes no sense at all. Then a young woman turns up at the backyard gate who knows more than she should, and even though her explanation makes even less sense, every instinct tells Kayla that Riley is her only way to get them back. If they're not quite what they were, well, that's a bridge to cross later...

Just a little note about triggers: I'm a big believer in endings that are upbeat but not candy-coated, and not a fan of grim-and-gritty or of glamorized violence. These are adults in a difficult situation. However, no one gets raped, and the physical violence is, all things considered, fairly minimal. There is some harassment, sexual and otherwise, and also some mild restraint and mild verbal abuse. Complicating factors are generally wizardly or fae in nature.

If I need to warn you about gender in this being all over the map, some of it reality-based rather than fantasy-based, highly diverse sexuality, or that there is (especially later) some indirect fetish/BDSM imagery and honest character discussion, then you probably should just avoid everything I write. :-)

They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other... more>> living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage.

Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture.

Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they?

Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive.

A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change; the Donovans and their allies are increasingly active in trying to improve life for free sensitives and protect tame ones. With charges of sedition and immorality against Van, for writing unbiased observations rather than accepted “truth” and for allowing it to reach free sensitives, the outcome of this hearing is going to have consequences far beyond his own fate.

Space exploration will happen, but only a bit at the beginning, and much more so later. Hidden identity will happen every now and then. What I'm most excited about is getting to use different ideas for weapons and other such things that aliens use and that humanity has adapted too! Can't wait to have fun with you guys!

She is rude crude and Pansexual and more than a tad creepy. (this is how Unseely Court wear in mythology) Anyone that knows their mythology. She is a Champion, not a Hero. Long ago there was a Hero and because of Honor and Goodness, all was lost because to quote Space balls Good Is Dumb. So this is the Hero Journey with someone that would likely want the demon lord job if they could get it. They are not Demonic Evil just a complete Criminal. She might not be able to be as Evil as the Demon King but she pays good money for a drug that would let her! And she knows the temptation of Evil because she indulges. She will rescue a Strange Child from getting hit by a truck at the risk of her life but not the kid that called her a skank nope for him she gets the popcorn out. She is Heroic but not selfless and she is not a Hero.

A/N: I just wanted to write another story to burn some stress. Don't take this seriously, coz I don't know when I'm going to just stop writing. The early part of his life has been a blank to him as long as he can remember, but the more time he spends in Haven, the more hints there are that a place like this is where he belongs. But how did he come to be alone several years before, with no memory? Is there unfinished business lurking in his past that can come back to haunt him in his new life? And how much danger are his Haven friends in because of him?

Very much an Ugly Duckling tale. Only with fewer ducks. ;)

This was my first finished novel. Comfort playing with gender and experimenting with other diversity came later. There *are* intimate poly relationships and a sort of non-exclusive MM friendship-with-benefits. V0.01 of Black Wolf was written during the mid-1990's, while I was in my late teens/early 20s. While it has undergone three or four major overhauls since then, updating it to take place later proved not to be a viable option. I realize some readers may find concepts like the absence of cell phones and Internet rather alien.
