Every sixteen-year-old dreams of being summoned to another world to slay the forces of evil. Dante's whole class got summoned. Dante didn't get the dream.
While his classmates kneel before the Eptarion and receive blessings, vocations, and glory — Leon, the school's golden boy, crowned Hero of the Sun — Dante is branded a Tainted Soul. Defective. Discarded. Cast into the void to die before his story can even begin.
Something older than the gods catches him on the way down.
He wakes with the worst vocation ever recorded, a sarcastic voice in his head called ALICE, and a broken sun seared into his palm. The Church hunts his kind to extinction. The gods sleep easier with him buried.
They shouldn't.
Starting from below zero in a world built to kill him, Dante will have only his wits, his shadows, and the forbidden power of the ancient Runes — the magic the gods erased from history for a reason.
The gods lied. The light is a prison. Its time for shadows to take back the world.
