The continent of Etra is a dangerous place. Its title as the "Land of Gods" has only grown more ironic with time, as the endless warring of immortal god-mages has rent it asunder. What little land that hasn't yet been transformed into desiccated wastelands is desperately fought over and defended from hordes of chimera and magic beasts. The only true sanctuaries are the great flying cities, each ruled over by their respective god. At least there, the only threats are those created by the madness of their eternal regents.
No matter where they are, all mortals pray that they could be lucky enough to gain a system and become true mages. With the magic and statistic increases provided by their systems, a mage can only truly be threatened by others of their kind. Those blessed with both patience and ambition can become true legends: wielding incredible power, molding the world as they see fit, and perhaps even ascending to godhood. Of course, most will inevitably fade into obscurity. Some lack the courage to risk their lives in order to raise their levels to anything impressive, and other push too far too fast and go mad from the emotional disruptions their own magic inflicts on them.
Yvette is someone who desperately wishes to be in that majority, forever forgotten by the world. Living as a blade for hire, she moves from town to town to scrape together whatever living she can by hunting outlaws and magic beasts. Without any real direction, she intends to die as little more than a footnote in the history of Etra.
Complicating things slightly is Gigi, a child cursed with the mark of a [Saint]. Yvette knows that traveling with someone like that could only bring her trouble, but she cannot help but feel responsible for those forced into the spotlight. Though scared of what attention it could draw, she is forced to care for the girl for as long as it takes to find a safe place away from the greed and ambition of the greater world. With the aid of a barely-civilized chimera and an concerningly violent monk, Yvette must search far and wide for whatever genuine compassion still remains in a dying land.

A rules-light LitRPG story with a focus on characters and adventure over dungeons and leveling.
