Just so people know, if I ever die suddenly, am unable to continue my novels or go on hiatus for whatever reason, nobody is allowed to continue my novels.

Alright... Since I haven't followed any series on this site, I don't know if you get notifications when one gets updated, or whether you're supposed to follow the author to get updates.
tl;dr, do I tell people every time I'm putting a chapter out, or do they know anyway?

As far as I know, there is no notification for new chapters. Either you tell people, or they have to watch their reading lists.
As author anyone that follows you will get notifications if you posts a new profile update. That’s how I tell ppl I’m updating a new chapter, or news.
