Chapter 42 - Progress
Nolen went to check on the site where he had tasked the tribe with housing the livestock they were beginning to raise. The goblins possessed a natural ability to care for and raise animals, which could become a valuable asset for the tribe. In contrast, the orcs had primarily been a hunter-gatherer society, relying on their physical strength to sustain themselves with whatever they could find. Though they occasionally domesticated animals, it was typically limited to mounts or hunting companions and not to the extent of providing food for their people. This was the first time Nolen introduced the concept of large-scale animal husbandry to the tribe.
When the goblins were first integrated into the tribe, they were promptly assigned tasks. There was no room for laziness; each goblin had to contribute to the tribe’s efforts. They were guided by the orcs from the former Beast Talker tribe, who possessed a natural talent for this kind of work. They were a unique tribe.
Nolen had no issues with the goblins working on raising the livestock. They had the basic intelligence and knowledge required for this and could help the orcs with this task.
"It looks like everything is going well."
Nolen Approached Klork, who was overseeing this project.
Nolen could see the goblins, and a few orcs were busy caring for the livestock.
"Greetings Chief. Everything is proceeding as planned."
"Very good. We need to start raising enough food to feed the growing tribe."
"We should be able to produce a steady supply of livestock for food soon."
"That is good. Once that is done, we can start growing crops as well. We create a farm as well soon. It should help with feeding the tribe even more."
"Yes, Chief." Even though Klork did not know the term farming, he had seen other species grow food, so this was not too much of a foreign concept for him.
Nolen continued his rounds and observed the other projects the tribe was working on. He was happy with the progress.
"Well, everything seems to be going well. I'm gonna head back."
Nolen returned to the chief's tent and was greeted by his wives.
"You're finally back. We were getting lonely." Draga mentioned.
"Yes, I missed you too." Ghal also responded by affirming Draga's words.
The three female goblins, Kloirt, Khaim, and Khals, were also in the room preparing things, along with a few more female goblins who had joined the tribe.
Nolen was the Chief and the Head of the Tribe, so he needed to entertain guests, but he didn't expect such an extravagant meal today.
"What is this? A feast? Is there an event going on today?"
"No, it's just that your favorite meal is ready."
The Ladies then giggled as if they were keeping a secret. Nolen didn't mind this and was glad they were getting along well.
"Oh, that's good."
Nolen sat at the table, followed by Ghal and Draga. The female goblins began to serve them.
"This looks amazing."
"I hope you enjoy it."
Nolen ate the meal and enjoyed every bite. The ladies were enjoying themselves as well.
"This is delicious. Did you cook it yourselves?" Looking at his wives.
"We had some help from the goblin females, but we did most of the work," Ghal answered while Draga nodded satisfyingly for her small role in chopping the meats.
"Well, I appreciate it."
"Thank you." The said while smiling
Nolen and the ladies enjoyed the meal together.
As soon as the meal was over, Draga looked at Ghal as if she were encouraging her to say something.
Ghal then took the opportunity and approached Nolen.
"What is it?"
"Chief. There is something I want to tell you. I'm with your offspring. You are going to be a father again."
"Oh."
Nolen was a bit shocked at the news.
"Well, that's great news—my second child. Thank you," Nolen said while giving her a big, warm hug.
Nolen was very happy to learn that he had conceived a second child. Typically, the Solarians had a very low birth rate. However, the situation was different when it came to the female goblins, as their offspring did not inherit any Solarian traits due to the unique biology of the goblins. While the child was still considered his, they could not be classified as even half-Solarian—a more accurate description would be that they were about a quarter Solarian due to this unique biology. Romy had already confirmed this through her scans of the female goblins, unlike Draga, who was an orc and had a much higher compatibility rate with Nolen.
"I'm so happy for you. Congratulations!" Draga said, genuinely happy having more family.
"Thank you," Ghal responded, smiling at her, glad she had such an understanding sister.
Nolen was overjoyed.
"We need to celebrate! Bring out the drinks!"
Nolen called for the servants, and they brought out the drinks that the orcs usually brewed with the wild fruits they found in the dungeon.
"A toast to Ghal and her future child!"
"To Ghal and her future child!"
"May she have a safe delivery and the child be born healthy and strong."
The group toasted to Ghal and her future child.
Ghal was smiling.
"Thank you."
Nolen was so happy he called a few friends over to celebrate. Kargath and Klork went over and drank through the Night celebrating, followed by others.
