Chapter 2: Officially a Familia

"Oh, Bell, we should celebrate at the Spice Mirage Grill. It's the most famous restaurant in all of Sorshana." Furina exclaimed in excitement. As Furina spoke, she started pulling on her floor mattress. She quickly moved it away from its spot on the stage. Bell watched as she pressed down on a loose floorboard hidden underneath where the mattress once lay. Pulling the broad floor, Furina pulled a box from its hiding place. Sadly for Furina, her excited smile fell when she opened the box.

Bell leaned over to peek into the box. In the box sat a small pile of gold coins. 'How much is that? Forty Valis?' From what Bell saw as he walked around the city, you can get a cheap meal in Sorshana for around seven Valis. But he doubted forty Valis was enough for the most famous restaurant in the city. "I can cover our celebration." Bell quickly said while reaching over and pulling a sack of Valis from his backpack near the bed.

The sack was his life savings. The money he managed to save up after years of doing lumberjack work and odd jobs. He started his journey just shy of two thousand Valis. He hoped it would be enough to hold him over until he reached Orario, except, after a month of travel, he had just made it to the first major city on his journey and had already spent a little over three hundred Valis. Bell had been worried about running out of money during his travels, but now that he joined the Furina Familia, he was no longer worried about saving, believing he would just make it all back from killing monsters.

Furina's eyes widened slightly when she saw the sack of money, but she quickly shook her head. "No, no, no. I can't make my first child pay for their own celebration." Furina groaned but then bit her lip as she stared at her own small pile of coins.

"Then how about we go some were smaller? I don't need to celebrate at a fancy restaurant as long as I'm with you, my Goddess. I'm happy." Bell said while giving Furina his trademark bright smile. A smile that would make women's hearts skip a beat back in his village. Furina was also affected by his smile, a slight blush appearing on her face as she looked at him.

"O-Okay," She replied in a small voice while pulling out her small pile of coins. Before she could close the lid, Bell placed his sack of Valis into the box.

"It's safer in here than in my backpack." Bell quickly explained. He had already removed two hundred to keep on him and wanted to store the rest. "Now, how about we go celebrate."

"Right!"

"So where are we going?" Bell asked while following Furina down the busy street.

"To a place that's really popular with adventurers. Well, it's open for everyone, but adventurers go there mostly. I've never been before, but I heard they have delicious cakes." Furina explained with an excited smile. That smile flinched when they entered the restaurant, and Furina spotted the waitstaff. "Wha-What the?" Furina squeaked as a team of beautiful young women walked around the restaurant carrying food and taking orders in nothing but tiny shorts and tight shirts.

"Hello! Welcome to SunBust Tavern!" A cheerful woman greeted the pair as soon as they entered. "A table for two? Right this way, then." The woman spoke quickly and didn't give Furina a chance to back out and find somewhere else to each.

"H-Hey," Furina cried out, trying to stop the woman. But Bell placed a hand on Furina's shoulder, interrupting her.

"It's okay, Goddess; you said this place is popular with adventurers, so I'm sure it's fine," Bell declared.

Furina eyed Bell's smile and groaned. "Fine, but you better watch those eyes, Mr." Furina spun around and started following the cheerful woman with a huff.

After a brief walk, the cheerful woman led the pair to a booth in the back since the other tables were filled with adventurers. "Your SunBust Siren will be here to wait on you shortly." The cheerful woman exclaimed before bouncing away.

"They definitely don't have restaurants like this back in my village," Bell said while looking around. "Does this count as 'Performing Arts'?" Bell asked while turning back to a slightly blushing Furina.

Furina huffed and crossed her arms at Bell's words. "As if something so crude would fall into my domain."

"W-Welcome to SunBust Tavern. My name is Kobeni, and I'll be your SunBust Siren today." A nervous young black-haired woman said while placing a pair of menus on the table. "C- Can I start you off with some drinks." She smiled shaky, screaming, 'Please give me a good tip' with her body language

"Prickly Pear Green Tea for me, please," Furina replied after a quick menu scan.

Bell followed her lead and quickly picked up the menu, and chose the first drink he saw. "Cactus soda for me."

"O-One cactus soda and one prickly pear green tea coming up!" The SunBust Siren Kobeni said, then gave the table a slight, practiced bow. The bow must have been in the SunBust Siren handbook since it perfectly showed off her modest chest, but Bell couldn't help but notice her face burning in embarrassment. The bow lasted two seconds before Kobeni stood up straight and walked away. While the rest of the women walking around had a slight bounce in their step, Kobeni's walk was more like an awkward shuffle.

"Well, this might not be Sorshana's fanciest restaurant, but I doubt we'll forget our celebration here," Bell said with a laugh as a woman with breasts larger than his head bounced by with a tray in her hand.

Furina placed a hand against her face and couldn't help but laugh as well. Despite her embarrassment for bringing her first child to such a place, she was still riding high because she has a Familia now. She would celebrate even if the pair were eating next to a dumpster. Her smile didn't even fade when Kobeni tripped and dropped their drinks onto a nearby adventurer.

Early the following day, Bell groaned in pain as a splitting headache rocked his body. He tried to move his body, but something soft was covering his face while something else was lying across his bare chest. "Uuu, mmeh, meh," Bell moaned, trying to wet his dry throat.

Bell tried to move once more but quickly realized his right arm was completely numb and trapped under something. After a few moments of slowly waking up, Bell reached up with his right hand and lifted that soft thing off his face. After blinking a few times, Bell noticed that the soft thing was Furina's thigh, and he was holding her left leg up by the ankle. Her right leg was lying across his chest, while his left arm was trapped under her back. Looking down at his own body, he realized he was stripped down to his boxers.

"Jeez, how much did we drink last night?" Bell mumbled while sitting up and looking down at Furina. The moment he laid eyes on his Goddess, he choked back on his own spit, and his eyes widened.

Sometime during the night, Furina had stripped off her cumbersome suit-like outfit and was left in her simple matching light-blue bra and panties. Bell couldn't stop his eyes from taking every inch of Furina's body. Her legs' soft, pale skin led up to her flat stomach and small breasts. Sadly, any arousal Bell was feeling vanished the moment he saw the dried vomit around Furina's drooling mouth.

Bell winced as his head throbbed when he tried to remember the night before. It was mostly a blur, but he remembers it started with a pair of sizzling sand sangrias. "Damn that, Kobeni," Bell mumbled as he recalled the awkward waitress pushing them to buy drinks. The drinking age is sixteen, but Bell had never been a drinker, and neither was Furina, but the pair decided to buy one each to celebrate. But one leads to two, and so on.

~C~N~W~D~

"DRINK, DRINK, DRINK!" The chant filled SunBust Tavern as many adventurers gathered around Bell and cheered him on. No one knew who Bell was, and they ignored Furina, who had passed out in the booth after two strong drinks. They simply cheered as Bell drank the shot of liquor from a completely red-faced Kobeni's belly button while other SunBust Siren poured more liquor.

~C~N~W~D~

Bell winced at the blurry memory. "Oh yeah, that happened. That girl was so embarrassed. Well, at least I left her a good tip, but damn, we spent all of the money Furina took and all of the money I had on me too." Bell mumbled; he winced again as another blurry memory entered his mind.

~C~N~W~D~

'Shit, was it this way?' Bell groaned in his mind as he carried Furina on his back. Furina was snoring in his ear with her head on his shoulder.

But while Bell was stumbling down the street looking for Furina's theater home, Furina started shifting on his back. "Nnnggghh," She started to groan.

"Goddess?"

"Nnngghh, BLEEEHH~" Before Bell could ask Furina what was wrong, she, the Goddess of Performance Arts, vomited over his shoulder, down his shirt, and onto his pants.

A shiver went down Bell's spine as he felt the warm substance soaking into his clothes. 'Well, it could be worse.' Bell thought as he started walking once more.

"BLLEEEHH~"

'I better hurry back to the theater.'

~C~N~W~D~

"I guess that's why I'm in just my boxers," Bell mumbled while looking over at the clothes he wore the night before. They were lying in a pile a few feet from the bed. With a groan, Bell forced himself to stand up and shifted Furina so she could lay in the bed properly, and then he covered her with her blanket. 'I better get cleaned up before she wakes up.' Grabbing a spare set of clothes from his backpack and the dirty clothes from the night before, Bell made his way behind the stage to the old theater crew changing rooms and bathrooms. Furina had given him a quick theater tour before they left to celebrate.

~C~N~W~D~

Bell laid back down near the bed after cleaning up and cleaning his clothes from the night before in the bathroom sink. While getting cleaned up, Bell checked the time on his small beat-up chronocharm, a time-keeping device he bought on his travels. When he checked the time, Bell realized how early it was. After all the time he spent traveling with a merchant caravan, his body was used to waking up before sunrise, even if he was hungover. But when he closed his eyes to rest, Furina sat in the bed. "Goddess?" Bell called out as he watched Furina look around the room in a daze.

"Bell? It, it wasn't a dream?" Furina's voice was shaky as her mind was in a haze, but a moment later, her eyes sharped, and she jumped out of bed. "Shoot! We have to hurry! We must get to the Guild and register our familia before the morning rush arrives!" Bell could only watch in confusion as Furina quickly scooped up her clothes and rushed to the rooms behind the stage.

'Well, at least we didn't have an awkward morning after.' Bell thought.

~C~N~W~D~

"Gahh, I can't believe they made me fill out so much paperwork." Furina whined as she and Bell walked out of the 'Guild,' the organization responsible for controlling the dungeons and maintaining the balance between the familia families. "I get that they need information for our Familia to be officially registered, but I've read epic novels with fewer pages than the pile they shoved at me."

Bell was walking next to Furina, holding a wooden box. The box was branded with the Guild's logo and packed with paperwork and a few things every new familia is given. "I didn't know all of this was a part of being in a familia," Bell said as he pulled out a small metal plate engraved with the Furina Familia name, a symbol branding them as an adventurer family, and the Guild's official seal. "This little plate makes us an official adventurer familia, but I thought the Divines were the ones in charge of familias?"

Furina crossed her arms and sighed. "All of that is just for the sake of the Guild. We became an adventurer familia the moment I gave you my grace. I could just send you out to fight monsters if I wanted to. But if we want the Guild's support and to use their services, we must play along." Furina leaned on her toes to peek into the box. She flushed in embarrassment when she spotted the Furina Familia official symbol. "I can't believe you chose that for our official familia symbol. You know I have to stamp that symbol onto official paperwork from now on."

Bell couldn't help but laugh as he looked into the box and saw the Furina Familia symbol. The symbol Bell chose is a cartoonish drawing of Furina's smiling face, giving a thumbs up. "Those Guild designers agreed with me; you have the cutest face; it would be a crime not to use it."

Furina's face grew redder at Bell's words, but she quickly puffed up her chest. "I suppose that is true."

Bell could only smile at his adorable Goddess. "I am surprised you allowed me to make such a big decision. I assumed you would have wanted to handle everything on your own."

"As my first child, it's only right that you should have a hand in the creation of this familia." As the pair walked, a loud bell rang out in the air. "It's noon already? We should hurry back and look at your class in more detail."

"Lead the way, Goddess."

"You certainly have a unique class," Furina said as she moved off Bell's back, holding a paper in her hand. "But I think you got lucky! Skills are hard to get, and you're starting with three! I excepted nothing less from the first child of the Furina Familia." Furina stated proudly. She quickly handed the paper to Bell as he sat up.

Bell studied his class information momentarily, then looked up at Furina. "From what I know, skills are the most important part of a class. How do I unlock more?"

Hearing Bell's question, Furina let out a sad sigh. "There are only two ways to unlock more skills. The first is through divine feats. The second way to unlock more skills is to find and use blank skill books." Furina deflated a bit as she spoke. "But those blank skill books are most commonly found in the dungeons. It's possible but rare for them to drop from powerful monsters outside dungeons. You could buy some from the Guild, but all the big familias hog those books and drive the prices up."

Bell could only hum as he thought about Furina's words. After registering with the Guild, Bell became a rookie-ranked adventurer. If he wanted to enter the dungeons, he would need to rank up and become a novice-ranked adventurer. "So until I can enter the dungeon, the only other way to get skills is by doing divine feats? What does that mean? What is a divine feat?" Bell asked.

Furina quickly shook her head at the question. "I absolutely forbid you from performing any divine feats," Furina stated firmly with her arms crossed. Bell's eyes slightly widened at Furina's reaction, but the stern glare on her face quickly vanished, and her body relaxed. "S-Sorry… But divine feats are basically suicide missions. To perform a divine feat, you must take on an overwhelming challenge that pushes you to your limit, whether physical or mental… Over the decades since divine feats have been discovered, many promising familia members have either been broken or killed by them…"

"Well, that just means I have to rank up and get into the dungeon for more skills. But I already have these three, so I should figure out how to use them first." Bell said to lighten up the mood. "But besides my skills, it looks like I have to build a puppet if I want to use this class. I don't know how to do that. Is there any shop around where I can buy a puppet?"

Furina tutted at Bell's question. "Now, now, this is your class. If you want to be the best Warzone Puppeteer you can be, you must make your own puppet. But don't worry, I can teach you if you don't know how to make a puppet."

"You know how to make puppets?"

Once again, Furina puffed up her chest. "Well, of course. The art of puppetry falls well within my domain as the Goddess of Performing Arts. I know all aspects of puppetry just like I know all aspects of singing or dancing." Furina stated proudly. "Teaching you how to make a puppet will be easy."

"Perfect, I'll head out and buy what we need right now." Bell walked over and moved Furina's mattress aside to grab his hidden bag of Valis.

"Wait!" Furina quickly called out; turning to her, Bell saw the Goddess nervously biting her lip.

"What's wrong?" Bell asked.

"It's just… I should supply you with everything you need to start your journey." Furina admitted sadly. 'It's my duty to provide for my child, but I have no money!' Furina cried in her mind. The celebration the night before left the Goddess flat broke.

Bell gave Furina a soft smile. "You've already given me the most important thing. Thank you for your divine grace and for allowing me to join your familia. Don't worry about the money, we're a familia now. This money is our money." Bell explained while pulling out the sack of Valis. He still had a little under one and a half thousand left of his life savings. "Don't worry about the money," Bell stated with a grin.

Furina could only sigh and give a slight nod. "V-Very well, but I'll go shopping with you. I'll make sure you don't get ripped off! You're not from this city, and some shops always try to scam tourists." Furina stated while recalling her first few days in the city.

"Then lead the way, Goddess."

"A-And! Only the bare minimum for building a puppet because I'll buy you all the best stuff to build a masterpiece! You know, when I can." Furina declared. She tried to wear a confident smile as she spoke, but that smile twitched as she tried to remain confident. Furina's proud, overconfident stance while her voice and smile were nervous and shaky created an adorable image, and Bell could no longer hold back. He quickly stood up and walked over to Furina. "Huh? Bell? What's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that? Ehhh!" Furina cried out in surprise as Bell reached up and started toying with her face.

"You are too damn cute!" Bell cried out while squeezing and pinching Furina's cheeks. "Are you the Goddess of being Adorable?"

"D-Don't pinch! Gahh! Don't pull! Nhhaaa~!”
