Volume 1: The Misfits of Kuoh Academy

April 1, 2023

Athens, Greece

"Everyone, start running!" A Fallen Angel started shouting. "He's he—"

He was cut off when his head seamlessly slid off his neck and hit the ground with a wet plop, causing everyone's eyes to widen in shock and horror. Blood sprayed from the stump where his head should have been. His body collapsed on the ground, twitching every few seconds as if it were still alive. A masked man soon walked over, a bloody sword in his hand.

The glow of the moon illuminated the man's form, making him look like a punisher sent by God. Though his horned mask made him look more like a Demon sent from Hell.

"Y-You're only one man. You can't take all of us on!" A female Fallen Angel said as she shakily conjured magic circles.

The masked man simply tilted his head, as if saying "we'll see".

"D-Do you know who we are!? We're the warriors of the Kokabiel Faction, you fool!" A Stray Exorcist said as he and two of his comrades pointed the tip of their swords at him.

The masked man didn't do anything besides standing menacingly. His enemies waited with bated breaths for his next move. What they didn't expect, however, was for him to speak. "And do you know who I am?" He asked in a neutral tone. Enormous power surged from his body, generating an immense amount of pressure on his enemies.

The terrorists paled. Of course, they knew who he was. There's no man, woman, or child in the Supernatural World who hasn't heard of him and his exploits. Or his signature horned mask, the only one of its design in the world.

In a burst of speed that left an afterimage behind, the masked man started cleaning house. The fact that he was a blur to his opponents was a testament to his speed. Hell, they didn't even hear him slashing his sword multiple times so they didn't know they were dead until it was too late.

The group of terrorists then exploded in a shower of blood and parts, sending different organs—internal and external—in different directions. Heads rolled, and blood spilled. A fitting punishment for a group of worthless lowlife scum.

A few feet from where the now-dead group stood, the masked man looked at the scene as he started wiping the blood from his adamantine bastard sword. Once he was done, he sheathed his sword and started walking away.

Oh, and before he forgot...

Manifesting a wispy, black miasma in his hand, the masked man then threw it towards the various dismembered parts lying on the floor; turning them into nothingness before leaving his latest scene of the crime.

Kuoh City

The city of Kuoh, a peaceful city on the outside, but only a select few know what really happens here. Since the end of the Great War, the Devils have been occupying or renting certain towns and cities throughout the Human World to gather influence and recruit people with noteworthy skills or Sacred Gears into their peerage. Kuoh City was one of those territories.

Now, in the present day, stood Kuoh Academy. Though to the rest of the human race, it was just your typical, normal Japanese high school, but it was far from normal.

The academy is actually a metaphorical castle with Kuoh City being their metaphorical kingdom, where the heiresses of the Gremory and Sitri pillars preside over.

However, let's not rush things just yet. We have to properly meet our MCs for the first time after all.

Private Airplane, From L.A. to Kuoh

Now, I'm sure to most people in the world, life is quite mundane. One would wake up and eat breakfast before getting ready to go to school or their workplace. After a boring day at their job or at their school, one would go home, or go out for dinner, or visit the malls with their friends. After that, they flop on their beds with the force of a brick and sleep like logs, and the entire cycle repeats the next day and so forth.

This cycle rarely ever changes and the boring normality of life continues. However, weird shit does happen from time to time which makes life quite interesting.

For the Misfits, however, weird shit were their definition of 'normal.' And where they're heading right now, in the peaceful city of Kuoh, that is going to be no exception.

The Misfits were currently a team of five siblings. From oldest to youngest: Jolo, Adrian, Chris, Kate, and Chelsea of the Toussaint family.

They are currently in the last stages of their very long but luxurious flight in their private jet from L.A., California in the United States of fucking America to Kuoh in Japan.

The youngest of the Misfits, Chelsea, sighed. "Do we really have to go to school?" Chelsea had no desire to mask her annoyance. After all, having to suddenly go back to school isn't exactly fun. Neither was going to school in the first place.

Chelsea was the group's designated magician and their foremost expert on all things magic-related. A once-in-a-lifetime magical genius, she is responsible for the creation of numerous new magic types and one groundbreaking magic system. She was also very horny, but can keep it under control and maintain a regal expression on the outside.

"You know we have to do this, Chels," Kate replied to her younger fraternal twin sister. "We need to establish a close relationship with the two overseers before our grand reveal. Plus, we haven't met anyone from the Biblical Factions before. Except for Adrian, that is."

Among the Misfits, Kate stood out as a supergenius, widely acknowledged as the smartest person alive. Apart from her exceptional intellect, she was a passionate bibliophile and master chess player. However, her skills extended far beyond academia; Kate was also a highly skilled assassin, renowned for her mastery of stealth and the art of silent killing.

"Well, there's a first time for everything." The third oldest, Chris, added in a sleepy voice, not even bothering to remove the sleeping mask from his eyes.

Chris was the "muscle" of the group since he was their strongest member in terms of physical strength. I shit you not, this guy once lifted a planet and threw it without breaking a sweat.

"Devils have very unique ways in filling their ranks and we could be their next targets if we aren't careful." The second oldest and the vice-leader of the group, Adrian, said.

He was the group's resident swordsman, and he was a damn good one too. The man's sword was an extension of his arm, and he could use his arm in ways that few others could. Inhuman, almost, strong when he wished to be and nimble when he needed to be. Combined with his skill with the blade, this makes him one of the most dangerous men in the world.

"It doesn't matter." The Misfits looked to their eldest sibling, Jolo, who was casually drinking some red wine. "Even if they try anything, those Evil Pieces of theirs won't do shit."

As the oldest among them, Jolo naturally assumed the role of the group's leader and their most formidable member in terms of sheer raw power. A true wild card, he was a master in armed combat, particularly skilled with the spear although proficient with a sword as well, and possessed a terrifying expertise in unarmed combat, magic, and unbridled violence.

He was also a mercenary under the notorious nom de guerre, Zero. Keep that in mind for later.

"In spite of that statement being true, vigilance is still a must, especially with our...activities. I know that we'll have to reveal ourselves to them soon, but right now, I want all of us to now draw any supernatural attention to ourselves." Adrian stated, causing the other Misfits to nod at him. Just then, the voice of their pilot emanated from the speakers to make an announcement.

"Attention, ladies and gentlemen. We are about to make our descent to Kuoh City. I suggest that you all fasten your seatbelts and don't do anything that will destroy this plane again. Thank you."

A few minutes after the announcement was made, the jet jerked, making them look at an open window, giving them a clear view of the runway, letting them know that they had arrived in Kuoh.

The madness has arrived.

Misfits Mansion, Kuoh City

They soon arrived at their recently-created mansion, which was located in a secluded part of Kuoh that is surrounded by water, turning it into something akin of a beach house but on Elon Musk levels.

Jolo opened the door and the group piled into the mansion that was their new home and base of operations. With Jolo and Adrian calling dibs on the largest and second-largest room, respectively, Chris took the third-largest for himself. Kate picked the room nearest to the library while Chelsea picked the one next to it. They unpacked all of their things and started to decorate their rooms after.

Jolo's room was as spacious as a penthouse floor. He installed a king-sized bed, an LG C1 OLED TV that was connected to the wall in front of the bed, a black Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano in the room that he regularly plays, and a gaming setup with three monitors for whenever he decides to rot under the influence of the Internet.

Adrian's room, however, was less on the opulent side. Despite this, it exuded an air of sophistication and comfort. The walls were adorned with tasteful artwork, and a plush rug lay beneath a sturdy wooden desk. His bed also boasted luxurious linens and pillows that invited restful sleep. Aside from the room, he also had his own miniature office downstairs.

Chris' room was all grey, from the floor to the walls to the celling itself. Speakers were also embedded in the walls for maximum tunes. Aside from the bed, the only other pieces of furniture in the room was a cabinet, a chair, a rack containing some electric guitars, and a desk that Chris sometimes uses to paint his 40K figurines or design a new weapon. He was planning to get a glass cabinet soon to store his figurines in.

Near the empty (for now) library, Kate had set her room up to be a simple one. She had a desk with a bookshelf already full of books next to it as well as anything she'd need for studying and for assignments.

Chelsea had designed her room lavishly. Her walls were purely white with some white and gold furniture and a white carpet above an oak flooring. She, of course, had a cabinet filled with clothes. There was also a small table next to her bed with a lamp on top of it.

Once they were done decorating their rooms, they soon explored the rest of their mansion. The mansion boasted three floors, two above ground and one below.

On the ground floor, they discovered the expansive yet still empty library, a well-stocked bar, a fully-equipped infirmary, a family gaming room, a modern kitchen fitted with state-of-the-art appliances, a private hair salon, an indoor gym, and, of course, Kate and Chelsea's rooms.

Ascending to the second floor, aside from the living quarters of the three male Misfits, they found two other spacious bedrooms and six guest rooms. There were also 11 full bathrooms and 3 half bathrooms, ensuring comfort and convenience for all residents and guests.

Descending to the underground level, they stumbled upon the hidden gems of the mansion: the underground lab, the shooting range, a private movie theater (with reclining seats, surround sound, and a popcorn machine that refills itself), and a dungeon they jokingly referred to as the "Horny Jail." Complete with chains and other paraphernalia that would make most BDSM enthusiasts wet.

Venturing outside, they marveled at the expansive garden, complete with a gazebo, a massive and alluring swimming pool, a sports court for recreational activities, and a large garage housing their impressive collection of cars.

These were just the initial amenities, anyways. Once Chelsea does some Spatial Magic shenanigans, even more amazing shit will be added.

The entirety of the property was powered by a massive generator that converts magical energy to electricity. Using a replica of a certain jeweled sword as the power source, this generator releases an infinite amount of energy for all of eternity. As for the water source, Chelsea simply imbued the pipes weaved throughout the property with enchantments to purify and replenish the water endlessly. Through her magic, she ensured that the water would always remain fresh and clean, free from impurities and contaminants.

Infinite electricity and an endless water supply, and the best part is that none of them have to pay for it.

The mansion was also equipped with a lightning-fast Wi-Fi connection, boasting speeds of up to 10,000 Mbps, thanks to Jolo's expertise in electrical engineering. To those who don't understand what this means, it means that their Wi-Fi is fast as fuck boi so that means no lags.

When nighttime came, they all met up in the dining room to have a nice little dinner before they go to bed. After a little bit of chatting, they soon went to their respective rooms so that they could sleep early.

April 3, 2023

It was an early start for the Misfits, they had woken up in the early hours of the morning because they had to go to school.

Their first day at Kuoh Academy was a mixture of anticipation and dread for the Misfits. On one hand, they were eager to stir up mischief and possibly leave some of their less astute classmates brain dead. On the other hand, the thought of enduring the mundane routine of school left them feeling a sense of dread.

As geniuses, they held the conviction that attending school was beneath them. Why waste time in classrooms when they could be delving into less boring pursuits? But they acknowledged the fact that if they wanted to defend the damn place, they needed to get to the epicenter of it all.

The five Misfits then went into the garage of their huge mansion. The garage was filled to the brim with cars and other vehicles for the Misfits to use at their own pleasure, which includes their personal vehicles.

For Jolo, it was his black BMW i8 which has seating for only two passengers, with the folding top taking up the space that is occupied by a pair of jump seats in the coupe. A sports car at first sight. Extremely low and wide when viewed from the front, a flat silhouette, powerfully shaped surfaces and precise contours.

For Adrian, it was his personal light blue Lamborghini Aventador S, a luxurious super sports car with cutting-edge technology

The exterior's hexagonal design of the new exhaust pipes evoke the power of the space shuttle; the front end is shaped to resemble a shark, showing the same strength and elegance in dominating it's own environment: the road.

For Chris, it was his red 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, boasting a ferocious 526-horsepower 5.2-liter V8, racing-spec running gear, and functional aerodynamics, the Shelby GT350 and more hardcore R variant are arguably the first production Mustangs capable of rivaling track superstars like the Chevy Camaro Z28.

Chelsea didn't have her own car, but rides with Kate in her black 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB. One mutual detail that all of the Misfits' cars have are the custom license plate with the word, "M1SF1T", on it.

No one can deny that cruising through the neighborhood in a luxurious car always brings a sense of satisfaction. The city was surely taken aback by the unexpected sight that day.

"Heh. Well, hold me and hit me from behind while I suck off a porcupine. This place isn't as loud as I thought it'd be." Chelsea remarked with a grin. "Maybe I'll actually enjoy it here."

"Even with the saturated amount of Demonic Power in the atmosphere?" Kate remarked, ignoring the promiscuous eccentricities of her sister.

Chelsea's expression soured when she sensed something else. "Not just Devil energy..." It was holy in nature, with a pinch of corruption and wickedness. "What the fuck are Fallen Angels doing in Devil territory?"

"Seems like Kokabiel has already made his move even before we got here." Chris commented calmly through the communication devices patched into their cars.

"Hopefully this is nothing but recon on their part. After all, Kuoh is a hotbed for Sacred Gear users ripe for the taking." Adrian said.

"Or ripe for the killing." Jolo interjected, adding his two cents as everyone grimaced at that.

Kuoh Academy

Currently in Kuoh Academy, the atmosphere was abuzz with excitement for the first day of the new school year. Originally established as an all-girls school, the winds of change had swept through, leading to its conversion into a co-ed school. To accommodate the influx of new students, additional buildings had been constructed, signaling a new era for one of Japan's most prestigious academy.

As the morning sun cast its golden rays across the school grounds, Rias Gremory, with her trademark confidence, spotted her childhood friend across the courtyard. With a warm smile, Rias made her way through the crowd, gracefully weaving past students and admirers until she stood before her friend.

"Good morning, Sona." Rias greeted.

RIAS "TOMATOHEAD #1" GREMORY"

"Good morning, to you as well, Rias." Souna Shitori, or rather Sona Sitri of the Underworld, returning the smile with equal cordiality, though it strained slightly. "The influx of new students has been rather tiring for me, being the new Student Council President and all."

SONA "FLAT IS JUSTICE" SITRI

"Congratulations on the promotion, by the way!" Rias interjected cheerfully.

"Thank you," Sona replied, managing a small smile before her expression shifted to one of mild annoyance. "But managing the increased student population has been quite challenging." Her gaze then swept over the bustling grounds. "It seems like every day brings a new set of problems."

"Don't be sad, Sona. This is a good opportunity for us to broaden our horizons...and maybe get some good pieces along the way." Rias remarked excitedly.

Sona sighed in annoyance. "Can you please not talk about that in public? If anyone heard you, they might think we're picking out students to be manipulated in whatever high-class game we're playing."

Rias simply laughed in response. "My apologies, Sona. But you know—"

Their conversation was interrupted by the sounds of engines, as four cars parked near the school gates. By now, a number of students have gathered once they saw four very expensive vehicles pull up to the academy and parked in four available spaces.

"Damn, look at those cars."

"Yeah, it's like something you only see in Fast and The Furious movies."

"Those must cost like...a lot of money."

"No shit, genius."

The students began talking to themselves as the engines were shut down and the students waited to see who the newcomers were. The driver's seat doors of the cars opened up and everyone waited in bated breath to see who would come out.

And when the people did came out, everybody's eyes widened in surprise...and more than a few girls and boys gained blushes on their cheeks.

The mysterious students grabbed their backpacks and slung it over their shoulders before closing the doors of their respective cars. They each pressed their smart keys and the vehicles beeped once, signifying that it was locked, and began walking their way towards Kuoh Academy.

Sona watched as the newcomers made their way towards the entrance. She wouldn't admit it aloud, but even she couldn't deny that she was taken aback by their beauty. Particularly, her attention was drawn to the sunglasses-wearing one in the middle, presumably the eldest among them.

'Wow...just wow.' Sona couldn't help but acknowledge the striking appearance of this individual—a sentiment that seemed to be shared by many female students.

Beyond his physical appearance, Sona couldn't ignore the way he carried himself. As the heiress to the House of Sitri, she had developed a knack for reading people, and there was a certain air of sophistication about him that intrigued her.

His movements were graceful yet effortless, exuding a natural confidence and poise. It was as if he possessed the innate grace of royalty.

However, Sona reminded herself not to jump to conclusions too quickly. While it was evident that they came from wealthy backgrounds, if their expensive cars were any indication, they didn't display the typical behavior of spoiled brats.

Every school in the entire world had its fair share of privileged students who flaunted their wealth and status at every opportunity. Yet, to Sona's surprise, these newcomers didn't exhibit any signs of arrogance or self-entitlement.

"At least they'll be tolerable." Sona mused to herself, recognizing that her initial assumptions might have been premature.

The Misfits continued on their way, passing by some students as they conversed with each other. Of course, they received a variety of reactions. Almost all the girls fell for the twins, much to their amusement. Chris got a few looks due to his unnatural hair color, dress, and crown, but he paid them no mind as he just kept vibing to some tunes. Chelsea and Kate was pretty chill, not minding the boys admiring them.

Instead of wearing the school uniform, they were wearing their casual outfits since they didn't receive their uniforms yet. That, and they don't want to wear that ugly ass shit and get ogled by the perverts.

The raven-haired teen soon focused on two women. Closing the distance between them only made them more aware of his elegance.

"You must be the school's president, huh?" The raven-haired teen tilted his head slightly towards Sona as he removed his black round sunglasses.

"Yes, indeed. I'm Souna Shitori." The boy's eyebrow raised slightly at the mention of the last name, but still shook her hand.

"Jolo Toussaint. My younger siblings, Adrian, Chris, Kate, and Chelsea." He motioned to each of his siblings, one by one.

"Quite unusual for such wealthy students to enroll in such a big number." The redhead chipped into the conversation. "Rias Gremory, pleasured to make acquaintances with the future idols of the school."

"Charmed, and always expect the unusual from us." Jolo said with a smirk. "You'll forgive me if I cut this conversation short, Ms. Gremory. We have yet to get on with the schedules and such."

"Of course." She sidestepped out of the way for the five of them to proceed onto the school grounds, with Sona marching in front to show them around.

Sona was rather excited that she'd finally get some decent students around here. A long-awaited break from all the headache and stress that she gets from dealing with the other students.

Oh how wrong she was.
________________________________

Jolo Toussaint

The leader of the Misfits and their most powerful member.

A charming, wealthy, and savvy young man with a penchant for trouble and mischief, he is often seen with a smile on his face and carries himself with an air of extreme self-confidence and even arrogance.

His attitude and natural elegance resembles that of the human kings of old.

Yet, to disregard the reincarnating properties of the Evil Pieces, one must ask just how much power lies behind that smug smile?

—×—

Adrian Toussaint

The vice leader of the Misfits and the one responsible with keeping them in line.

Despite being Jolo's twin, he is described as his polar opposite in personality. While his brother is arrogant, mischievous, and offensive, Adrian is humble, well-behaved, and polite. Where Jolo could be seen burning buildings down, Adrian is the one who tries to put out the fire.

In spite of this, he still cares for him and his other siblings deeply and only wants was best for them.

Unfortunately, for him and everyone else, they never listen.

—×—

Chris Toussaint

The "muscle" of the Misfits and the laziest sibling.

An anarchist at heart, Chris absolutely loathes corrupt governments and most governments in general, and it is heavily implied that he has toppled a few of them.

However, his laziness often gets the better of him, and he'd rather sleep all day long than get up from bed and cause some anarchy.

His hobbies include, but are not limited to, sleeping, burning down governments, liberating the oppressed, and painting 40K figurines.

—×—

Kate Toussaint

The bookworm of the group and a renowned supergenius.

Cold and calculating, Kate is the intelligent and methodical bibliophile among her siblings.

The one who would rather study all day long than do anything else.

However, knowledge isn't her only power.

—×—

Chelsea Toussaint

The magician of the group and their personal white mage.

Despite being the youngest sibling, she is one of the group's most powerful members.

Yet, much of her past is still a mystery.
