I may have explicitly put focus on the mission in the previous chapter but when I reviewed the timeline of FT, I found that my initial idea of meeting Mira and her siblings would fail as they would not have problems until a few years later. I tried to look for things to sneak in but unfortunately I can’t do anything with the mission so I changed the focus, you’ll see it in this chapter and if the title is not a dead give away there will be a new character introduced this time! Also, as much as I want to have some development between the MC and Gildarts, I really can’t see any good reason to write about the missions of the two except as filler.

TLDR: Things would move forward faster as I could despite putting fillers. Anyway hope you guys like the pace, things will slow down a bit later after the prologue arc (Pre-Lucy). After all there is not much I could do with kid characters.

Sage out

Gildarts and Julius went on missions, the first boar mission they had was successful though it was somewhat unsuccessful for both Gildarts and Makarov.

“So the village was mostly inhabited by middle aged and elderly… there were no kids at all?”

Makarov asked Gildarts but the one who answered was Julius who said.

“I mean even if there were kids, what do you expect me to do? Convince them to leave their home and become a wizard? Or do you want me to make trips constantly to a village 3 days away just to play with children MY age?”

Hearing the words of Julius, the old master gave Gildarts an inquisitive look to which the man simply shook his head. He could not help but voice out his frustration when he realized that the village did not have kids ending up with Julius learning about the truth of the matter.

In the end Makarov and Gildarts had to apologize for their hasty actions but at the same time Julius forgave them as he realized the extent of his abilities.

With a smile Julius rushed to the mission board as he picked out one monster hunting quest and gave it to Makarov.

Seeing the quest, Makarov could only sigh as he passed the quest poster to Gildarts who took it and with a sigh brought Julius out to take the next mission.

What followed was a time of continuous jobs and training, Makarov had Julius go on quest with Gildarts and the S-class wizard taught him all the survival and job related knowledge he could. This continued until Julius was six years old, when he finally turned six, which was set to be the day he arrived at the guild, Makarov allowed him to go on quests alone.

With that Gildarts once again started to go on quests that took months to accomplish.

On the other hand Julius took on a variety of quests, he further increased his mastery of magic and took a step back on learning new magic. But he did not stop though, now he learned how to use Heavenly body magic and Letter magic, specifically ancient runic script.

Runic ancient script was the basis for a lot of more, ancient spells. The knowledge of such magic was not really hidden but few people had the ability to comprehend the script. It needed quite a bit of research and a deep understanding of language.

Although he only spent a few months on it Julius was able to quickly learn the magic. He may have not been lucky enough to get a system but maybe all that system powerup became his inherent talent in magic.

But even then, Julius recalled the future that was set out for this world. When he recalled the future of the guild and his future companions Julius felt a deep sense of desperation. He did not let it show but whenever he went on missions solo he trained hard and with a strong drive.

Over time his room was filled with various magic tools and equipment, from staves, to swords and even armors. Julius created a variety of tools to not only help his guild but empower it for future battles.

Unfortunately Makarov did not allow him to add some battlements or secret armories for weapons.

He did not push forward his own ideas but he instead moved to train the others. A year ago he was just an idiotic child who wanted to learn magic, now he was a magic teacher who helped the guild members improve their magic.

With that time passed and now Gildarts was coming back from his quest, Julius greeted the man and then went to the tower. The reason he did this was because he knew that at some time now the fairy tail crew would come.

He heard news about Deliora’s emergence, he did not know when Deliora would kill Gray’s family, where Gray was or the current state of things there.

Initially Julius wanted to save Gray from his fate but when he saw where Deliora was spotted he realized that he could do nothing. Then the tower of heaven problem came to his mind but he had no way to convince Makarov.

The dark guilds responsible for the tower of heaven fiasco were quite skilled in hiding their tracks as even their slaughter of villages came unnoticed.

Then the arrival of the dragon slayers was something he had no way to notice, Mirajane and her family's plight was also something he had no way to find out.

He went around taking jobs all over Fiore but Julius could not really claim to have explored the whole nation. He barely spent a year in this world, most of that time was spent at the guild. He only had a few months to truly explore and even then he was limited to nearby regions.

In the end Julius sighed in regret as he found out just how powerless he truly was. Yes, he could cast spells that could one shot his opponents. Use spells ingeniously to trick and defeat his enemies without them realizing.

He was a skilled combatant and a skilled wizard, but he was not omnipotent nor was he omniscient much less omnipresent.

Julius understood that he was just a man, and when he realized this he also understood that his rapid increase in strength went over his head. He thought that he could act like some powerful hand changing the fate of his favorite and beloved characters alas- he was nothing more than a powerless wizard.

But despite all this Julius did not give up, right now he was hoping, praying that his presence did not change fate too much that the original cast would not find themselves at Fairy Tail.

When he watched Fairy Tail in his previous life, he did not need to imagine his own self-inserts into the series to feel like he was part of fairy tail. He felt that he was a fairy tail member just by watching the anime.

The feelings of the characters were not as over the top like other series, instead they were subtle and truly hit hard. The fight sequences were not that epic and sometimes even badly done but they were all fixed by the meaning of the battles. The emotions that the fighters carried and the way the fights were thematically coordinated made him always shed a tear.

Julius wanted to experience it himself, the trial and tribulations of Fairy Tail alongside the cast. He wanted to fight alongside his friends against the Phantom Lord, to beat down Jellal in the tower of heaven. To beat some sense into Laxus during his rebellious phase…

Fairy Tail was a family, that atmosphere was present even when the classic cast were not present. He loved the atmosphere of the guild where he could be himself and everyone was the same.

Natsu, Gray, Erza, Mira, Elfman,...

The names of the main cast flashed in his mind as he sat on the roof of the guild looking out for any wandering children that may just stumble in front of the guild's doors.

Once again time passed, another year to be exact, Julius, now 7 years old sat lazily at the top of the guild watching out for any kids. In the past seven years he had improved by leaps and bounds. Though he had not added any other magic to his repertoire he was slowly reaching mastery over a lot of his current magic.

In fact, Makarov even started to teach him the three grand fairy magics namely, Fairy Law, Fairy Glitter and Fairy Sphere.

When he recalled the three spells, Julius could not help but recall the arc when all three spells were shown. Initially it was used as a deterrent, Fairy Law was used by Makarov to hold back Grimoire heart but this failed. Then Fairy Glitter was cast by Cana, albeit it failed but still the emotions carried by that scene and the backstory that led to it and the following actions of Gildarts made him shed a tear no matter how many times he rewatched it.

Now that I think about it, I did make that bet with Gildarts didn’t I?

Julius recalled his bet with Gildarts which centered around Cana. Where he basically proposed GIldarts to give his daughter's hand in marriage to him if he ever found her before he did. This was brought up when Makarov was talking about the perverted man's many “adventures”.

Gildarts made fun of Julius for basically not having any rizz but he shot back with the bet.

“If I ever find that you have a daughter, if I learned about her first, then you won’t block me from making moves on her! Also you’ll accept it if we decide to get married!”

His words obviously angered the S-class wizard but ultimately Gildarts accepted the bet claiming that he could spot his daughter, if he ever had one, from a mile away.

Of course Julius simply nodded his head with a smile knowing full well the future events but as he recalled this he spotted, in the corner of his eyes a head of brown hair. He looked again and saw a little girl with dark brown hair and light brown eyes walking towards the guild.

She had a dog with her and carried a small bag behind her. Seeing her, a name suddenly popped up in Julius’ mind.

Cana!

With such a revelation, without even confirming things Julius quickly made his move. He rushed to the guild as he screamed at the top of his lungs towards the orange haired man at the counter.

“GILDARTS! I HAVE COME TO ASK FOR YOUR DAUGHTER'S HAND IN MARRIAGE!”

His words were so loud that the little girl a distance away from the guild heard his declaration. She looked at the boy with eyes filled with curiosity but as she did the boy was suddenly launched towards her direction.

“HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU NO! EVEN IF MY DAUGHTER WHO I DID NOT KNOW APPEARS SUDDENLY IN FRONT OF ME I’D STILL SAY NO!”

A loud voice rang from the guild as an orange haired man walked out angry heading for the boys direction. The man paused as he saw the little girl, the little girl looked the man with eyes filled with expectation.

Alas, Gildarts simply patted the little girl as he said.

“Little missy, I’d advise you to not go towards that direction, not completely avoid that building. There’s a seven year old pervert looking for young brides there. You never know when he might sink his fangs on you. Anyway, let me take care of the boy first!”

The man said as he continued walking towards the boy’s direction but as he did the voice of Makarov suddenly rang behind Gildarts.

“Don’t you have a quest to get to, Gildarts?”

With that Gildarts seemed to have snapped out of his anger and quickly rushed towards the train station.

“Crap! I completely forgot about it! Damn that Julius! Master! I’m heading out!”

“Alright be careful on your way!”

Gildarts completely forgot about Julius and Makarov instead looked at the little girl as he asked.

“What can I do for you little girl?”

But before the girl could answer, the voice of the boy sent flying a while ago suddenly rang behind her.

“Master, I think bringing her in and giving her juice should be done first. You know, letting a lady stand out here in the middle of the day is very ungentlemanly if I do say so myself”

Makarov paused as he looked at Julius but upon hearing his words the old guildmaster took another look at the girl. It was then that he noticed the girls wearing a pair of pretty worn out shoes. She had a bag strung over her shoulders, not an expensive bag but a simple cloth tied around to carry her things.

Julius was secretly signaling Makarov to look at these things and that was when the old man understood something. He invited the little girl to the guild which she accepted and on their way Julius began to start to talk with her.

“Hey so~ What’s your name?”

The little girl looked at Julius for a moment and then turned to the ground as she replied shyly.

“Ca-Cana, Cana Alberona”

Hearing her words Julius smiled brightly as he extended his hand and spoke.

“Hello Cana! I’m Julius Dreyar, you could call me Julius if you want!”

And that was how Julius started to change the fate of this world, one friend at a time.
